Welcome to the thread steftheserb!

The first page of the thread contains a list of everything that has already been completed, is in progress, or needs to be done.

My personal suggestion would be to start on a smaller area of the game first, then work your way up to completing one of the dungeons.

You can start anywhere you'd like of course, but starting off small may save you some frustration until you get the hang of it. Personally, I'm taking a little break as I just finished the Forest Temple. So I'm distracting myself with a few enemy retextures before moving on.

... well, it's not bad, but I'm wondering if the original isn't still better. Please don't take offense here, but the hair stretching around the face looks awful (not your fault). The eyes are interesting--they kinda look like kiwi slices. The nose is good. I guess my main problem is that it doesn't look like the original. The original wolfos had more contrast between light and dark fur... and the different color of hair were in patches, not just a blend of different colored hair.

If I may suggest: use your hair texture, but try using the original texture (I'm assuming the fur was only 1 texture) to shade it (place the original texture in a layer over yours, the set it to multiply, overlay or one of the light blending modes)... try that, and see if it helps, then if it does, clean it up to a point where it's all new and all good. I hope you understand that ('cause I'm not sure if I do :p). Good luck!

Fixed to a google search instead

Also I'm currently working on a complete dump of Spirit temple, which I plan to work on. The dump is at least 75% complete right now!

EDIT:I've completed my first ever retexture! I did it in 16x of the original. The previews are in 1600x1200 so I'll just link them. Feedback much appreciated!

Re-textured version 2, darkened it up a bit so it matches the original level of lightness/darkness almost perfectly :bouncy:

I used this as a base texture, bottom left piece.

@Zeckron its alright but it has more of a wooden texture to it rather then a fur texture try using very high resolutions for it.
@Chaoszerox that texture looks good in game, definatly got to use the darker version tho.

Thanks for the tip Chieftain. No worries, I'll never take offense at suggestions, especially yours.

I'm beginning to see why nobody has ever retextured enemies. The stretch zones are just absolutely ridiculous. Just eyeballing the Wolfos, there are at least 5, probably more. As soon as I finish Wolfos and Skulltula, I'll get back to normal textures b/c this really is more trouble than it's worth the reward.

Using Vivid Light, some cut and pastes, guassian blurs, airbrushing, and even more, I finally have something close to being final that doesn't look half bad. But it threw the nose completely off balance, so now I'll need lots of airbrushing to bring it back into hue with the rest of the snout. I'll try to post some screenies later.

@Chaoszerox, nice screenies. And good idea making 16X your 'starting line'. Personally, I don't go any lower than that anymore. Thanks for the link to Mode7's site; trust me, I've read through and watched every single tutorial on there dozens of times, and I wouldn't be where I am today without them and the help of the good folks here in this forum.

As Lewa would point out, I'll mention my usual mantra in regards to your retexture: make it more rough and tactile. The color is just perfect. Fantastic in fact, I really like it. Just roughen it up a little more so that it doesn't look like a very smooth ceramic tile. In photoshop, a quick and easy way to do that is to duplicate the layer, and for the top layer set the blending mode to overlay. Greatly increases the contrast and saturation (you may need to lower the saturation to compensate). Other than that, you could try some bump mapping. But the overlay-trick has saved my butt on more than 1 occasion.

We look forward to seeing your contributions to the project!

EDIT: I didn't see your post double D. Mine is 32X the original texture size. Think I should bump it to 64X?

I'm having probelms figuring out exactly what this texture is (the one the mirror is resting on)

sandorwhatisit.png

and just the original texture
THELEGENDOFZELDAD2C225CA210A78B438_.png
I think it's sand, but I could be wrong...

Also I'll post my dump of Spirit Temple if anyone asks, but It's still not complete. The boss parts of the dump, and 1-3 others are missing

Lol... it took some time for me to realize that the red stuff was numbers... I guess that's from HiResEaser? Your texture looks great, but like d--d said, the darker one is best.

ok here's my 5th version version of the foor tile in the main/largest chamber with the giant statue. Thoughts?

EDIT: I'm working on the "sandy brick" right now. Considering the high level of detail sand has, making a hires would, with any sandy base texture, make it noticeably different than the original. Should I use a sand texture? or should I find something like a sandstone?????

Here's the original texture and a very early failed version 1.

Version 4! I feel I'm getting close to a final version

http://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff70/num1narutofan/V4.jpg

EDIT:

I finally dumped the face of the giant statue (I first dumped Spirit Temple with the face gone, the boss is through a boss-key door behind the face).
I also figured out there is a texture for her left and right side of her face! See below, make note of the file names and the colors I stamped them with!

markedfacespirittemple.png

I don't think I'll start any new textures today....2 possibly complete textures, my first ever textures, should be enough.

Might make some changes today, but no new textures. Comments?!?!

I think I'm overly-critical, for reals. V4 is my fav, but I still think it needs some tactile feel to it. What about overlaying a wavy sand texture?

Perhaps something like this? http://www.cgtextures.com/texview.php?id=31005&PHPSESSID=bf53496ec443908918b2d6a2f9d9847f

Overlay, multiply, or one of the 'light' blending modes.

Besides that, it looks good. And personally I'm very happy that you decided to take on that temple. It's one of my all time least favorites! :)

The Spirit Temple is one of my top 3 favorites. I still haven't made up my mind on which I like best, but the Shadow temple was definitely my least favorite. On a side note, I didn't like the Temple of Time temple in Twilight Princess. Taking a scared temple and renovating in the back of it with dungeon with a huge pest problem (spiders!) is WRONG

As far at changing the sand texture, I'm still thinking, but I don't think I'm going to make any changes unless I decide to start over on it. I'll be willing to let you have the psd if you want to try yourself.

I've only just started today doing thing kind of photoshop work...I've done some of the easiest textures so far O.O I'll likely need help further down the road to complete the temple

I've decided to start on one of the most used textures in the whole temple. It's used in many of the rooms for the walls, floors, ceilings, etc. So I think I'll try to make it 32x ^_^

@EVERYONE *FYI*
I usually make changes to my posts within an hour of that post, so look at the post again if it's recent

OK! After like an hour or so I have version 1! 32x makes this comp a big laggy and working on a texture this big, plus it's a lot more complex due to this and that it's a harder texture to begin with (yet nothing compared to your work Zeckron D: )
I Don't have time to post/make originals for comparison now, sorry. It's after 3 AM!

This 1 is the wall/floor etc. texture I talked about in the above post
http://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff70/num1narutofan/V1a.jpg

and this is the same room, which conveniently uses all 3 of the textures I have made! :bouncy:
http://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff70/num1narutofan/V1b.jpg

I would upload the PSD, but it's over 10MB even with max 7 zip compression :O ~37MB uncompressed.
Here's the png though. It's in my public mediafire folder

http://www.mediafire.com/?sharekey=614b1bb7814b85388c9e7c56ba37815f84ffa9992cd15b49

I accidently misnamed the archive, it should say 1.2 on the archive, and just 1 on the file name

Looking good Chasozerox! I especially like those staggered-shaped blocks.

Let's try Wolfos one last time:

Okay, now I'm moving on to my original plan: Dungeon common items (torches, doors, boss key chests, etc).

chaoszerox

Chaos, I really think you should just use a full on sand texture. I mean, it's what the artists intended for it to be, anyway.
What do you mean exactly by using a full?

Let's try Wolfos one last time
Much better!! It just needs to match the original colors a bit more, the top of the head was almost black in the original, etc.
I still don't like the eyes much -_-
Nose is oretty good, but it seems almost too realistic...

Ok here's the original and V1 of the main wall texture with a proper comparison 32x

@Zeckron I really think you should switch to photobucket. The file size limit is 1 MB but you get a monthly bandwidth allowance of 10 GB! This includes direct links I use!
