  • Most issues reported these days stem from users not enabling their emulators to use the required amount of RAM.
    We also tend not to use the search feature but post our issues within the texture pack release page.
    Failure to load a texture pack should not be posted in the release thread unless you have already patched the emulator.

    If you don't have the resources to use Large/HD texture packs please do not attempt to do so.
    Users should have a minimum amount of System RAM not less then 4GB's.
    If you have less then 4GB's of RAM do not post about how your emulator crashes,
    RAM is dirt cheap so invest some money into your PC.

    I would like to say thanks to squall_leonhart

Very cool looking! Was the design based on the original, or your own concept?

Edit @Chaoszerox--yeah, forgot to warn you. When I was in school learning this stuff, there was literally an entire class one semester that dealt with very little other than the pen tool. But it's a fun and powerful tool when you get to know it. Especially in Adobe Illustrator.

Thanks Chieftain. It's based off the original in the sense that it's a tribal-type design, but it's not traced from the original b/c the detail just wasn't there. Sadly, it's not an original work, rather a small part of a non-copyrighted royalty free design I found in vector format. I've used lots of vectors recently. Totally love them!

Same here chaoszerox :) Until seeing Cheiftains awesome example of what you could do in a short amount of time, I was completely clueless as to what the Pen tool really did. I've read through several pages worth of info now, and I'm beginning to see some awesome advantages. I'll give it a shot on my next texture.

btw: also checking out some graphics tablets and pens on newegg :) My mouse is pretty good, and I've got a steady hand. But there are sometimes when I KNOW for a fact, a dang pen would give superior results.

@Everyone: I think I've got a texture for the Goron Bracelet completed. Here, have a look.

Sorry. My old links are down. I edited my Photobucket account a little bit. They are all still on the account IanSkelskey though.

@Zeckron the Master Key Chest well I can't really give any feedback since i can't remember what the original one looks like.
@chaoszerox thats looking really good but the eyes look plasticy and doesn't look very old because of the bevel effect.
@IanSkelskey that looks better than Lewa current one so I'll replace the old one :p

Keep up the good work everyone.

@chaoszerox--yes! You're getting the idea! It looks like you're picking up on it very fast. I'll pass on another tip--if you have Illustrator (many people don't, but you may if you have Adobe Creative Suite), I recommend using the pen tool and drawing shapes in that program--the pen tool works much better in Illustrator as compared to PS. When you're done in Illustrator, simply copy the object(s) and paste them into PS. When the little window pops up with options, select paths. Then go about the process as normal. Keep it up!!

@IanSkelskey--looks very good!

I really like this 1! Is this the texture that goes in the start/pause menu? or the one you only see when you obtain the item?

I do have the master suite for CS3 and 4, don't ask how I got them ;) I have tried PS 3 & 4 and I don't see much of a difference between the 2. However on this temporary comp. of mine I can only use CS3
I'll try Illustrator out

very good designs, I have no idea how you make them PERIOD, no less make them so nice. However it is far too bright. The original was much darker.

I've got CS3 Master Suite, but I haven't gotten around to getting CS4. Is it any better? I've heard there's not much different between the two.

Back on track... death--droid brings up a good point. Once you get the bevel tweaked the way you want it, it'll need to be roughened up a bit to look weathered and such. But we'll get to that soon enough.

Wow. There's some freaking creative juices flowing in this thread right now. Lots to talk about, but I'll try to keep it short.

@Chaoszerox - looks amazing! I'm really impressed with that ruby. That adds a whole new level to that dang statue! The eyes are coming together nicely, and I'm sure you'll have it nailed in no time!

@IanSkelskey - that bracelet is outragious! So awesome, I love it!

@Chieftain - thanks for all the tips. Your master knowledge is so helpful here.

@Death--Droid - Here's the original (scaled up of course) and for Chaoszerox a darker version

Looks great! You've got it beveled nicely and it looks rough and tactile. Very nice.

Is it 16X the original? Just curious.

@Chaos--you're gonna kill me. I trashed the psd after I saved that jpg to post here... but I can try to reproduce it. Give me a couple minutes.

Edit--this is close... I actually tweaked it a little more than the last one. Regardless, the layer effects should give you a good starting point.

@Zeckron:
I can give the torch a go if you want, since I got the golden effect down pretty well.
If you want, you can send me a psd of the shapes and everything, and I can do the golden effect :D

@Chaos:
Try setting the emboss style to hard chisel. And maybe use sharper edges on your eye. Whenever I have a shape to reproduce, I basically trace (with pen tool) over the original shape. And maybe for the ruby, do a little outer bevel there, to make it look like it's sinking in.

That triforce is pretty sweet :D

@Lewa, here ya go sir.
http://www.mediafire.com/file/zjf5nhbtmi2/MASTER Gold Torch PSD Version.psd

You realize of course that if you churn out an awesome gradient on it, you'll have to teach me how you did it step-by-step! :)

Revisiting Skulltula. I haven't identified all the textures as of yet, but I've got the most important ones.

Stretching of course, is an issue as you'll see right above the nose. However, I think it's acceptable. Just my opinion.

http://i977.photobucket.com/albums/ae258/zeckron00001/Skulltula2.jpg

I took the eyes and nose sections straight from a real skull and tweaked them a bit. The nose especially looks hauntingly real, and makes them look freaky-deaky.

@Zeckron--very cool! Actually, this is the one instance of stretching that doesn't bother me (granted it would be nice if it never happened, regardless). Did you redo the legs as well? Reason I ask is that I think a little creative license could be taken on them (beyond just a yellow-black gradient) to make them look as realistic as the skull.

@Lewa--if/when you teach Zeckron the step-by-step on the metal gradient, can you pass that on to me, too? I'm very curious what process it is that gives you so much success!

@Chaos--I've got some more tips for the eye thing, but I want to wait until you've got the basic idea ready--just let me know!

@Chieftain, thank you sir glad you feel the same. The legs are actually a trip (I just found them about 30mins ago). The same texture is also used for the big teeth in the front (not the red flashing thingies, but the big buck-teeth). Progress on that one is slow due in part to that, and also since the legs flash. It's funky stuff.

any chance of someone upping a 3.x update pack :p

I actually have to agree 100% with squall here. There have been TONS of updates and new textures done/uploaded since the last pack revision.

Death--Droid, any chance of that? :bouncy:
