What's new
  • Most issues reported these days stem from users not enabling their emulators to use the required amount of RAM.
We also tend not to use the search feature but post our issues within the texture pack release page.
Failure to load a texture pack should not be posted in the release thread unless you have already patched the emulator.

If you don't have the resources to use Large/HD texture packs please do not attempt to do so.
Users should have a minimum amount of System RAM not less then 4GB's.
If you have less then 4GB's of RAM do not post about how your emulator crashes,
RAM is dirt cheap so invest some money into your PC.

I would like to say thanks to squall_leonhart

yo...
Hey I'm on my way to helping very soon. I spent all day tinkering around and randomly following advice from threads made in 2006 and now I actually got my emu to swap the textures or dump them! Now I'm just waiting to get my photoshop working again so I can start!
One thing you guys should know though, I'm extremely traditional when it comes to things like this. I may spend SILLY amounts of time on some small detail just to make it as similar to the original game as possible. When I make some things, I'll be sure and post pics.

Does anyone know very much about how to go about retexturing characters? I've seen people messing with Link's eyes and face, but what about other characters? Saria? Malon? There are a lot of areas for improving their graphics too.

Let me know what you think.

well thanks... and although Zeeber's new, he does bring up a good point! but, there are textures displaced for Saria's graphics.

Nice work, like those bricks. It seems the grass textures don't tile seamlessly though, you can see the edges in between.

@yab good work there! It looks realistic and fits the game. I almost finished hyrule field but i haven't done the castle yet so this is a good idea.
To answer your question: no i don't have a complete pack I just have my own textures some of which are released - some aren't. It would be nice if someone could keep track of these.

@zeeber: You have a nice idealistic approach! You are right detail and faithfulness to the original are also my main priorities. I'm looking forward to your textures but be sure you can motivate yourself for such a long time.

About the characters: There have been some experiments with comic like eyes which were quiet nice. I also experimented with edited pictures from eyes (blown up to the original links manga size), cause I think comic eyes and a realistic pack don't fit so much. Link ended up looking like this little boy from the Munsters cause I made them to dark but on the other hand it looked quite lifelike. Perhaps you could give it a try.

Just a tipp! :) I normally go about an area really fast and then take my time to redo some textures which I'm not content with. There is a HUGE amount of textures in the game and sometimes you have to make compromises. You have to develope some technique if you want to go trough there. For example I have an archive of many tiling photos I made some time ago which I'm using as a material archive. This is my base and then I start to edit it to look like the original (using color match, adding shadows).

I am willing to share my base textures with anyone working on this project - just write me a pm or email.

A IMO a very important point with this project is that the textures have the same look and feel as the original. On the one hand because, since this is a community project, sticking to the original colors will make sure no ones work will stick out so much from the others, on the other because i think Zelda should stay Zelda and we are not allowed to change the look of the game until we really now what we are doing (what Djipi knew - respect man!)
Another reason is doing this you don't have to do everything. Some not so blurred textures are perfectly fine - when we keep the original colors we don't have to do them again.
Keeping the color is the reason why I use color match so much - you have to be careful but mostly it's a great tool. You can also use it just for some areas. If it doesn't work I use Hue/Brigh/Sat.
Sometimes I copy the original texture as a color multiply layer above it (!with low ocupacity!), this worked really well at the gerudo valley (you can also do that before using color match to get better results) but it didn't on other occasions

I wrote two tutorials and I should write another one if i have time.
these are here:

But the second one still misses the pictures.

One word to my work:
Maybe I have a little time over the christmas brake but don't expect much until february when my exams are over.

There is an excellent pack done by Djipi and Federelli if you like the realistic style, and Djipi also did a cell-shaded version.

Federellis Work is quite good and you are right there is a pack, I even have an almost complete verion, almost complete means there is still A Lot missing and AFAIK quite a few were done by kman and can't be distributed anymore.

This pack has a different style ( many textures are photo based, like in HL2) and it's community based, also it has a higher resolution which you can see when you take a look at my version of hyrule field.

@Mr. Wolna: sent you a PM
