I like the spiked version because it looks a lot more realistic and dark.

The non-spiked probably keeps with the feel of the temple, though. The fire temple isn't exactly menacing (other than them pesky doors and flying panels and slinky monsters), just more powerful than anything. THat's why I think the thicker bars fit better.

@Zeckron: Haha too many cooks indeed. But good thing we're all friendly cooks (usually...heh heh...).

I prefer the non-spiky version. However it could use just a little work to make it look more 3D.

I think the carpet is too rough. You used the same guide I did for my rug right? The temple of time, is well, a timeless place that time does not effect. The carpet should look perfect, as opposed to the carpet I'm doing for the Spirit Temple one, which has a very rough texture to it. If my words aren't enough, look at these

Temple of time carpet

Spirit Temple carpet
http://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff70/num1narutofan/spirittemple.jpg

EDIT: walking though Spirit Temple with the new carpet texture, I noticed it's also set on a different texture, the floor texture used for the entrance.

Well I ran a basic render of the Temple of TIme file for google sketchup someone posted a bit back.

There are problems with textures loading in Kerkythea (the renderer). I'll work on it.
Windwaker anyone?

I need some one to make a vector design for the Spirit Temple. Some one skilled with this would be nice! This design will be used in the following textures, and also the reflection of the Mirror Shield. Maybe other places too, I can't remember. I believe the giant stone block (this particular one requires Silver Gauntlets) is highly likely used in other locations other than Spirit Temple, and may be used on blocks that require different levels of strength (none, gold gauntlets, etc.) I REALLY DON'T KNOW RIGHT NOW.

Here's a dump of every texture I've found so far that uses this design. I'm not asking anyone to do the texture for me, unless they REALLY want to. All I need is a vector, or giant rendering of the design. I'm not sure if it just needs to be a shape, or for it also to have some depth to it. I'd say just get the shape of the moon first, then make some depth to the sparkle thing. Also note it needs to be able to mirror over a horizontal line in the middle.

remember the angle at which you take a render is HIGHLY important, as this determines where everything is. We don't want link walking onto the stone edges of the water, grass, etc.

Lewa, looking fantastic. Would you also be up for making some tweaks? Obviously the textures will need work to be closer to the real thing but some things on the sketchup models are slightly off. I think it's just the size and placement of all the windows and circular marking in the middle. Here's one of the original BGs for comparison:

This may be weird but that exterior of the Temple of Time has always been my favorite part of the game. Something about it was so much more real and felt like it could exist than any other part of the game for me, and it's always stuck with me.

Chaos: That shape looks pretty simple, if you could post an actual texture with it I don't see why I can't trace it with the pen tool. Though I honestly think you could achieve the same look with default photoshop shapes.

EDIT: I was just thinking, I should do Desert Colossus after this. A few textures form the temple are used outside...Not all exactly the same, some a bit different, like the symbol above the entrance to the temple

@Zeckron i personally prefer the original version of the metal gate over the spiked version.
@Chaoszerox nice job on those textures
@Lewa good luck on the model its going to need a lot of work to get it looking better then the original.

One thing I just noticed is that the middle part in the front needs to stick out a LOT more. In the original it sticks out farther than the 2 pillars that make up the sides.
Version 3 of the carpet.

I think I might make the persian carpet design I ripped off a bit lighter, to be more like the original.
I'm also thinking, looking at the original, that the edges might simply be really worn, ragged, torn up edges of the carpet that have gotten kicked around over time, as opposed to a fancy border.

Thoughts?

EDIT: I'm not even going to describe this one

Hey guys, I didn't mean to just abandon the project or anything. Lately I've been pushing myself towards completely abandoning Windows and only using GNU/Linux Debian (finally).

I'll get back to GIMP as soon as possible, just a bit busy between that and my personal life.

In the meantime,
@Chaoszerox,
I think the border in the first version of V3 looks much better. Well done.

I might translate this weekend. Does anyone have a list of English to French names somewhere?

@Chaoszerox - Yes I agree version 3 is the bomb; perfect in every single way. I have to disagree with Death--Droid completely here. That last version, the border (although user friendly) just doesn't make sense when you're looking at real rugs.

Also, about the design appearing "blocky"; that's how traditional loom-made rugs look. When making them by hand on a loom (as they did back in the day, and in this game) it took a master craftsman to get very complex designs. Sure, it was possible, you can see when looking at other persian rugs. But for the most part, the blocky designs prevailed due to their ease. I actually like it; looks more authentic, real, and rough. But honestly.... damn, there's too many opinions floating around about the rugs. Let's put it to rest so you don't get frustrated. And since DD has the final word as project leader, you may just wanna go his route and get it over with :)

@Lewa - that 3-d model of the temple of time is awesome!!! You're on a path to greatness there my friend. I know nothing of 3-d modeling and the software you use, but if it allows you to use super-hirez textures then this could totally work.

If you'd like any help gathering/making textures to use for your model then please let me know. I'd gladly drop everything I'm doing in the Fire Temple to help you get it done faster. I couldn't do any of the 3-d work, but could churn out any 2-d textures you need. I'm totally serious here; this is very exciting!

@DD I'm not sure why you prefer that trial1.
I never even gave it a version name because I pretty much threw together a weird border, trying to make it look torn up but I failed.
Unless you are against using v3 of the rug in the pack, I'm moving on to more textures.

I've done an almost PERFECT dump of Desert Colossus and the Haunted Wasteland.
They both share a few textures, and the Desert Colossus uses some textures very similar to the Spirit Temple.
All details can be found by reading the folder names and most especially the txt files I've included that are specific to each folder they are in.

This texture in the v3 pack from the Forest is actually a shared sign post texture.
I found this out doing the dump. It's the the Desert Colossus, the sign pointing to the merchant man on the magic carpet.
The texture itself in the v3 pack wasn't a redux, it was just a placeholder original dumped texture.

THE LEGEND OF ZELDA#40631E35#0#2_all.png

Anyway here's the 'Desert area dump 0.8' by ME

I may go back and make the dump absolutely perfect, and add the fortress area, does anyone want me too?

http://www.mediafire.com/?mmnjth0n5aw

P.S. Is it just me, because I've noticed no one complaining, that the forums are bugged. I'm often getting (lately) database errors loading ANY page, and sometimes even a complete failure to connect to the forum server.

Not just you. I'm surprised I was able to see anything today.. I'm also surprised that so little has happened since I left town a couple days ago. Probably a result of server issues or something along those lines.

Chief! I haven't forgotten all your wonderful work on the Spirit Temple symbols!
Here's Version 1 of the primary Spirit symbols texture. This is a rough version, and it definitely needs some work, especially with the coloration.

@Zeckron This screenshot might force you to change your mind on burning this texture. I'm not sure if it's the same exact texture in Fire Temple or not, but I think you should check.
This is the entrance to the area of the bridge that leads to the Gerudo's Fortress, just after approaching from Hyrule field. Even if it's not the same texture, I think you might consider doing it!

@Zeckron:
Thanks, but I didn't make the model. Someone else made it in Sketchup.
He posted it in the 3d warehouse...does that mean I can just use it?

I have to get some softer lighting, and find a way to import the textures. Also need to get the PERFECT camera angle.

EDIT: Got a pretty decent camera matchup. Perspective needs to be adjusted. I'll keep working on it.
Oh yay, now no textures are loading:

No one will notice...
