  • Most issues reported these days stem from users not enabling their emulators to use the required amount of RAM.
We also tend not to use the search feature but post our issues within the texture pack release page.
Failure to load a texture pack should not be posted in the release thread unless you have already patched the emulator.

If you don't have the resources to use Large/HD texture packs please do not attempt to do so.
Users should have a minimum amount of System RAM not less then 4GB's.
If you have less then 4GB's of RAM do not post about how your emulator crashes,
RAM is dirt cheap so invest some money into your PC.

In Photoshop, go to Image>Image Size. Uncheck the "Resample Image" box, then change resolution from 96 to 72. Make sure to note that the image size in pixels does not change (crucial for retexturing). Then click OK.

Link V1.1 - Starting Lake Hylia

Removed his pendant, emblem on gauntelet, and eyes.

Glad you got things working Riddler.

Death--Droid, I need your preference on Lake Hylia's bottom. The high-rez texture that's already been done for the transition from shore to lake bottom is for rock. I honestly think a solid rock lake bottom is the wrong way to go but here's a screenshot of what it would look like.

Or if we're to go with a more realistic mud/sand bottom of the lake this is what it would look like (I re-did the transition texture of shore-to-lake bottom to match).

The texture gets stretched against the columns and pillars, but when the lake is full it's not noticeable. Which way you wanna go? Normally I'd just go ahead and do it, but since someone has already made that transition texture, I wanted to clear it with you.

I'm not death--droid, but I will say I like the sand better.

Side note--There are columns in the Zora Fountain (near Jabu Jabu) that are like older/weathered versions of the ones in Hylia... so I figure, to make it consistent, one of us should do the columns for both areas... you know--make the columns for Lake Hylia, then filter them to make them look old/weathered for Zora Fountain. You wanna do that or should I?

@Riddler--I guess there's a chance it's in CMYK... go to Image>Mode and check to see which mode is checked. If it's CMYK, change it to RGB. If its in RGB, check the bit depth listed under the modes... it should be on "8-Bits/Channel". Let me know if that doesn't work.

Hey guys, I tried paint.net and its way simpler and easier for changing the DPI and Depth, I got it working. I'm going to try to do my first re-texture for this project!

I will post pics if it becomes successful!

*EDIT* Ok I got a texture in, but you can see lines where the texture repeats itself. Example in the photo below.

Glad you pointed that out Cheiftain, or I wouldn't have noticed. Doesn't matter to me either way, I was going to make those pillars the very LAST texture to work on for lake hylia b/c it looks like I'll need to do some vector-drawing to get those symbols right. That's not easy stuff to do in PSP or Paint.net, though I have done some.

You've got your hands full at the moment, and have been working at a feverish pace. So for now, let's say I'll handle the pillars. If later I need some help, I'll holla at you.

@Riddler, have fun!

@Zeckron--tell you what--let's make it collaborative. While you're working on other stuff, I'll handle a vector drawing and get a rough version up. Then when you get a chance, you can put some texture on it and get it finished up. Sound good?

@Riddler--I would suggest a couple of things: First, check out the tutorials linked in the first post--they explain some of the basics of retexturing, including making a texture tile seamlessly (will fix your problem from above post). Second, please take a look at the list on the first page, which lists all the areas which have been textured, the areas that need work, and the areas that are in progress. Mode7 finished Kokiri Forest several months ago--I would hate to see you waste time on work that's already been done!

Also guys, sorry for all the questions, but how can I tell what texture goes to what? Sometimes It's distinct what is what, but then sometimes I have no clue:p

@Chieftain Ahh I didn't see that, i think I'll take a shot at the carpet in the Temple of Time!

Sometimes the best thing to do is guess and check. Often I use bright, solid colors to replace textures, just so I can see what texture it is I'm working on.

Hmm, it seems that part 2 of this re-tex project on the front page isn't working for me. As in, I downloaded it, and when I use 7zip to extract it, it says that I can't open this folder as an archive, and I tried everything else. The first one worked fine though!

It would be AWESOME if someone could compress the second pack into a ZIP and upload them for me! If any of you feel like it=]

(Lost in the sea of replies, I did not read all of the preceeding posts.)

@Zeckron: While the rock texture is closer to the original feel, I do beleive the dirt is more realistic. However, what sound is made when Link walks on the dirt? If it is a hard noise, it won't fit. Maybe a good solution to all of this is the have a stone bottom that is covered in mud. A dirty rockbed if you will. IMO.

Oh, and here's a more textured Magic Bean:

@Riddler--with 7-Zip archives, what you do is download both parts into the same directory. Right-click on part 1, then go to 7-Zip>Open Archive. Part 2 will automatically open with part 1. Then extract all to whatever directory you want. Hope this helps. Problem is that you can't archive everything into one file that's small enough to upload--that's why it's in 7-zip, so that the parts all open at the same time...

If still want me to, I can upload it all as Zip files.

@Lewa--leaf looks much better!

@Lewa - Those look amazing! Great Job!

@ Chieftain - It must have extracted together like you said, so i probably have everything atm.

I'm trying to make a better shield, as the one in right now kind of a "meh". So far I've gotten this far at it

THELEGENDOFZELDA03F326D002_rgb.png

As you can see, the polygons(thats what they are called, right?) Aren't in line, so for that I have to make the outside color of the shield the same. I'm a noob at photoshop so I can't make the color bold, around the outside part (near the buttons). If I can get that a solid Black, or silver, then we are set!

Btw, please don't take my work and say its your own...I know as a new person I shouldn't really say this but I take a lot of pride in for doing this stuff, especially knowing that i suck at photoshop! Thanks!=]

Whoa boy lots of activity. This is great!

Sounds wonderful. If you've got experience in vector drawing then you've definitely got a one-up around here. I hate to say it, but you're now the prime candidate for doing the medallions and their symbols that are scattered all around the world :)

Lewa However, what sound is made when Link walks on the dirt? If it is a hard noise, it won't fit. Maybe a good solution to all of this is the have a stone bottom that is covered in mud

Lewa, wonderful insight there! Didn't even think about the sound of his footsteps! Love your thinking. Once I'm off work I'll see what sound it makes and take it from there.

Magic Beans = perfect
Bombs = good but feel free to roughen it up just a bit like you did with the beans. I always like that tactile roughness on items, but hey that's just my opinion.

Please post as many pics and screenshots as your heart desires. I think everyone likes seeing them, even if they're a 1st draft. I certainly do, and plus others can learn editing that don't have much knowledge (such as myself).

@Riddler: Shield looks very very nice! Dodge and burn is a good tool. I use it for most of my shading now. I'm sure you can be credited for your work in the first post (I'm new, though, as well, so don't take my word for it). And anyway, people here are all team players. If they are willingly contributing to this project, then they are probably not the kind of people that will steal your work. I think the current Hylian shield looks real good, but it's too smooth. Yours has exceptional texture.

@Zeckron: Thanks and thanks :D Your Hylian stuff is looking good, too. Considering that, here are a coupla inventory textures :D:

@Lewa - more awesome icons! But don't be afraid to punch up the resolution on anything you're working on. The plugin can handle up to 128x, and since nobody has set a limit on how big our textures can be, the sky is the limit (within reason).

I hit my first 32x original rez texture today when making the bottom of lake Hylia.

But for me personally it was also a good example of 'higher-rez doesn't ALWAYS equate to better in game textures'. Case in point, i doubled it up to 64x (took stock tiled texture, increased canvas by 200% copy/pasted it 4 times seamed together to make a much larger panel), but in-game it just didn't work well at all. It tiled seamlessly of course, but looked too grainy and small when tiled, so I dropped it back don to 32x and that was the sweet spot.

Same thing on a few others i've worked on, like link's earrings. Tried 16x-didn't look good from a distance due to rendering issues. 8x - looked better but still had issues. 4x - just right. So everything has a sweet spot depending up on how it's used in game.

Start big and work your way down until you find it very pleasing. Much easier to cut the rez in half from a larger image, than start with a small one and have to scale up.

So much posts, sorry if i haven't replied to them all.
@Zeckron i agree with the mud/sand texture idea just make sure it is a large texture so it doesn't end up looking really stretched.
@Lewa Good work with those icons :p
@Riddler119 I quite like the current shield where using in the latest pack.
