  • Most issues reported these days stem from users not enabling their emulators to use the required amount of RAM.
    We also tend not to use the search feature but post our issues within the texture pack release page.
    Failure to load a texture pack should not be posted in the release thread unless you have already patched the emulator.

    If you don't have the resources to use Large/HD texture packs please do not attempt to do so.
    Users should have a minimum amount of System RAM not less then 4GB's.
    If you have less then 4GB's of RAM do not post about how your emulator crashes,
    RAM is dirt cheap so invest some money into your PC.

Link Beta Release / Fish Pond Complete*

Finally finished Link V1.00 and completed the Fish Pond with the footnote that I could still never get the reeds looking right. Perhaps the reeds are for someone else or just later down the road.

Fish pond done including the outside walls (which I had talked about earlier) and the poster. Also the trees on both the inside and outside (on the lake Hylia side). Couldn't get the crack in the wall to seam perfectly into the rest of the background, but I think it still looks decent. The crack itself - I'm proud of.

Now on to Link... Lots to be said. If you just want the files, you've got Link's Link up there. However for Death--Droid there are some footnotes below concerning folder structure etc. I'll highlight them to make it easier for you.

Most of the changes are subtle, and I think that's a good thing. I re-touched EVERYTHING except Link's mouth and his belt (belt already done and looks great). No worries about the eyes though b/c the ones that come with the original pack are absolutely perfect and can't be topped. Trust me, I spent several hours trying. Congrats to the original artist for making them so perfect! However, the original artist only made 3 textures - fully open, half closed, fully closed. I completed the expressions by making: bug-eyed in amazement, bug-eyed with small pupils, squinting in pain, looking left, looking right. Did them all in the original artist's style; took hours, but I had to make sure they were perfect. Added a little eyebrow expression to the looking left/right and the squinting in pain.

Death--Droid: the eyes are easily added into the pack, but honestly I see no point in seperating out Link's textures into multiple folders (unless you want to just to keep the artists straight, but that's kinda silly to me).

Link's tunic has that clothing weave texture to it, but at higher rez than my previous version and with 2 layers of weaving. His forearms and legs are one of my favorites. I did those at very hi rez with an ultra-tight weave. From a distance, looks like shimmering fine silk; close-up you can barely make out the stitching as if it's an expensive linen.

Did the gloves after all, even though we can't touch his bracers. Took a creative license here by adding an ornament to the top of his glove behind his knuckles. Give me your opinion here, hope it's not distracting or gaudy.

My fav pendant is there, new earring, new ears, new hair (I have an alternative version of the hair if you all don't like it), new Master Sword scabbard, new Master Sword hilt (someone already did the hilt, but honestly it looks bad; it's pixelized, so I re-did it; hope not to offend the original artist but I think he/she would be pleased), new back of the Hylian Shield, new boots.

Footnote about the boots: what a pain! The top part of the boot, the buckle, has 3 layers of stretching just on that one texture. So after a few hours of trying really hard to get a good highrez version, honestly all i could do was scale up the original, add a little rough texturing to it, and that's it. The middle and bottom of the boot weren't as difficult but they had major challenges too which again kept me from making an awesome version. Oh well...

Death--Droid: if you like my version of the Master Sword hilt, you'll need to remove the original. And again, I can't think of any reason not to just dump ALL of Link's textures into one Adult Link folder and call it good.

Sorry for the very long post, but Link is major business here and I thought he deserved some detail. Please post your opinions, b/c we all need to have a say-so in our hero.

EDIT: Forgot that I didn't re-do his fingers. Impossible. Texture used for his fingers is mirrored on the inside and palms of his hands. Try to add any details to it, like knuckles or fingernails, and they end up on the inside too making him look like he's got nasty warts or something.

@Lewa, sorry for the mis pronunciation.

Federelli has done some wonderful work, most notably the start-up menu, in-game menus, maps, etc. Lots of awesome detail work.

I'm not 'in the know' very much here, but I think Federelli has declined the offer of us using his textures in the community project. Someone correct me if I'm misunderstanding here.

Therefore, nearly all the menu icons and stuff are still needing enhancement.

That slingshot looks great btw.

@lewa- slingshot looks good! Zora Domain and River should have been in the most recent pack (unless they were removed since I downloaded it). This project is separate and apart from Federelli's pack--someone did a "merger" at some point a while back and it was not received well (there was a small argument about it on this thread somewhere). So yes, we're doing the textures he already did.

But anyway, yeah, please give us a hand! Like death--droid said, there's a list on the first page of all the areas (or at least, most of them) and their status. I'm working on dungeons for the most part (I did Zora just to take a break from dungeons for a bit). Zeckron is working on the fish pond now, and Lake Hylia next.

@Zeckron: Link 1.0 looks pretty nice! Although I agree with the post below. Nice concept though. Gonna check out the fish pond once I get home..and the master sword. I'm currently OOTing my way through the well-hated Jabu's belly. And glad you like the slingshot :D

@Cheiftan: Thanks for clearing that up. And thanks for compliment - was my first success with burn&dodge shading. I'm working on the bottles and contents now. For the life of me I can't find the empty bottle image, or any of them except the [full] lon-lon milk.

Umm Zeckron where should i start..

The rest of the textures are really good and look extremely good in game its just the eyes,the pendant,and the gloves.

Also i have all the eyes on my side:p

I'm pretty confident I remembered everything. However, I couldn't find the filenames, and I haven't completed the game on my emulator yet. Maybe someone can be kind enough to put the appropriate filenames to them, and I will edit my post when complete.
EDIT: After using them in-game, I realized that they are a bit dark in the inv. Maybe I'll just overlay some brightness.

They're at the same rez as the eyes that came with the pack and actually work quite well. However, I see you have others!

Nope, not in the game. I posted it with a few other ones for voting a couple pages back, you must have missed it. Loads fine on my end. I only uploaded the -ciByRGBA version of the file (which remember the original would be found in the ci_by_png folder of the dump) b/c you had stated we were uploading duplicate textures. Not all 3 files of the same texture are needed to load so I was trying to cut down on clutter. Play with it and see if you like it. If not, we'll go back to just the shirt with no bling.

You sneaky devil!! Did you upload those with V2 or V3? I didn't find them in the original, but I guess that's my fault for not uploading the full new versions, I was just piecing it together from all the uploads in the thread..... Can't remember you posting them previously in the forum, where in the hell did I miss that?

EDIT: I'm looking through V3 now and seeing a few others I didn't have either. Darn me to hell!!

Yep, somehow I was working off an ancient pack. Sorry guys, I should have known. Lesson learned!

Lewa the scale looks perfect! Love it. Same with the bottle.

Though the beans look just a little too plain. Any way to add some texture to them? Don't get me wrong, the shading is great. Just need a little more tactile feel to them imo.

Glad to have you with the group. As you can tell, with such an awesomely huge game, there's so much work to be shared.

Glad you like it. Thanks for saying stuff about my work, it keeps us all motivated.

And I'll work on texturing. Not too experienced with it so far. Gotta find a way to do it in gimp (I'm sure there is). I agree it needs to be a bit more tactile :D

@Zeckron the pendant textures seriously do not want to load on my side at all personally i think the pendant its self is taking away from some of the story line.

All others: still nice progress. I can"t remember the thread ever being so active when I was there. can"t wait to work on it myself agein.

Ok sounds good. CPT is a beautiful part of the world. Well worth a visit.

@Death--Doid I think that may be b/c there's already two textures in the Neck folder of the pack (which look slightly different from the stock textures but actually don't do anything for me in the game), and the pendant is made from his neck texture and his undershirt texture. So perhaps the conflict won't allow it to load without deleting the other two first. But I suppose that's a moot point since you don't think it fits into the game.

I'll take it, out along with the ornament on his gauntlets and re-upload in a bit.

@ Lewa, glad you're having fun. It can be very rewarding. I've only done one small area, not near the size of a full dungeon like others have done, but i'm addicted. I've never used Gimp, but have heard some very good things about it. I'm using Paint.NET (which seems to be a poor man's version of Photoshop) and now that I've gotten used to it I'm absolutely loving it.

Hey guys, I would absolutely LOVE to help out with this project. Ocarina of Time is one of the greatest games IMO, and I want to help make it even better.

I have all the tools needed to do this stuff, (Photoshop, a good comp, the programs)

I just need to know how. I kind of understand some of it. I saw another thread and people were replacing the shield textures. So they posted up the texture that they put in the folder to get it to work in game, so i downloaded it, and copied the name of links shield from the hires_texture pack that was in there(K-mans) and pasted the other shield texture in their. when I go in game, it shows the original shield from the game. Not K-mans, not the new texture, just the old one. If i put K-mans back in, his works. Help please! I would love to get in on this project=]

Howdy Riddler, welcome to the forum!

I'll assume that the shield texture you're speaking of works for K-man on his PC, but just not yours? If that's the case, just make sure you're copying the file over EXACTLY as you downloaded it. The file name must be the same or it won't work.

Also make sure you've got the latest version of whatever plugin you're using to load and dump hirez textures. I had this problem before, working with an old plugin, that wouldn't load anything higher than 4x. The latest version of Aristotle's Mudlord Rice video plugin accepts up to 128X the normal rez.

Oh and make sure you don't have more than one of the same exact file name anywhere in the Hirez folder. Conflicts cause strange issues.

Once you get it working you'll be hooked, trust me. Glad to see someone with the right tools jump on board!

Well actually I was using K-mans/Feds Hires pack, and I saw this thread (the twilight princess thread, when they are trying to get OoT to look like TP as much as possible) and I saw this great shield, and I wanted to see if I could load it in game. He gave the exact picture that he used, and I checked with the shield texture that was already in game, and it lines up exactly (same size, etc). I copied the name over exactly and pasted the new shield in, and it doesn't work. When I put in the original from the hires pack, that original shield works (hmm?)

I'm currently using Rice's Video 6.1.1 Beta 10, because Aristotle's Mudlord would crash for me. For some odd reason, when im going to options->setting in Pj64, it says that a certain file is missing, even though it's there. Not sure if that could be part of it, but after click OK on it about 3 times it goes away, and I can change my settings.

ALSO I noticed that there are 2 folder with the same picture of the shield in the hires pack I was using, I'll try to delete one and see if it works!

Try that and see if it works. And before I get flamed for not mentioning it to you, make sure you read over the FAQ about installing and using hi-rez packs, though honestly I don't think it's applicable here.

I had a similar problem with PJ64 about the message stating a certain file was missing. Gosh, I wish I could remember exactly where I found the info, but for me personally there were actually 2 files missing. One of them of course was a DirectX DLL, the other I think was a DLL but just can't remember now. Dumping both files fixed my problem back in the day.

I copied the name over exactly and pasted the new shield in, and it doesn't work.

I think what's happening here is that whatever photo software you're using is saving the file's pallette and DP info as it *thinks* it should be according to the image you pasted into it. I just checked the Hylian shield from the community's pack and it had the following info:
125 X 256
37pixels per CM
24 bit colors
16mil color palette
1 layer
0 alpha layers

Probably the issue is the 24bit color scheme.

also Zeckron I think your right, I'm looking at the properties of the shield texture I want to put in, and it says that its bit-depth is 32, and Dijipi's is 24. How can I change the 32 to 24?

I think I figured out how to change it to 24. It says it is now. going to try it in-game now.

hmm ok a different shield needs to have it's DPI changed from 96 to 72, any clue how to do this in PS?

Ok, I just went to image->image size and unchecked resample image, so now its 72 DPI. But its also still 32 bit-depth, and I need it 24. I go file->save for web and it brings up 4 different copies of the picture, with 1 original. I click on the 2nd copy and I change it to PNG-24. I click save, pick the save location and save it. I then go look at the properties, and its still 32 bit-depth and now back to 96 DPI. Any ideas how to change both?
