  • Most issues reported these days stem from users not enabling their emulators to use the required amount of RAM.
We also tend not to use the search feature but post our issues within the texture pack release page.
Failure to load a texture pack should not be posted in the release thread unless you have already patched the emulator.

If you don't have the resources to use Large/HD texture packs please do not attempt to do so.
Users should have a minimum amount of System RAM not less then 4GB's.
If you have less then 4GB's of RAM do not post about how your emulator crashes,
RAM is dirt cheap so invest some money into your PC.

I would like to say thanks to squall_leonhart

The file in question is just a stitched together low-res file--all I did was use HiResEaser on original textures to send to lewa.

Everything else I do comes out in .zip files simply because that's convenient for me. Then they get repackaged when they're integrated into the beta packs, and it's not up to me what format they are compressed into for that.

I don't do the whole "developer" thing, and I just don't care. People make programs for other people to use, and I use them, proprietary or not. I'm not reinventing the wheel to satisfy fanatics.

@mrde4th once i understand what you mean about the HQ2XS filter if your talking about the stuff in Rice Video then i didn't add that in mudlord did so don't go blaming me I'll add the credits if you tell me who the correct people to credit are if your talking about something else please pm me and I'll try and fix that up.
I couldn't care less about whether there open source or not i just use the program that i think is better:p
Also you don't have to download the files people uploaded as i end up releasing a beta pack which contains them all which is in 7z format since it has the best compression i could find.
Now if you haven't got anything nice to say please leave this topic mrde4th.

@Chieftain459
Any updates?

EDIT:Wait a minute i swear mrde4th is Mudlord ;(
I personally thing I'm compassionate i may miss things now and then but everyone does that.

1 step forward, 2 steps back, I'm afraid. Decided to trash the whole zora fountain--I realized I spent a lot of time experimenting, and I'm not satisfied with how it looked. So I'm pulling a Zeckron, and starting from scratch.

More to come soon...

Haha!! That sounded funny Chieftain. But yeah, since I have like ZERO art skills I end up starting from scratch more often then trying to re-touch a texture :)

Can't wait to see Zora's Fountain!

Hey Zeckron, did you upload the Ice cavern at any point?
I just got there in the game, and would love to see it.

EDIT: Oop, found it :)

EDIT: The icy/sparkly walls are stunning. Will give more critisizm as I go :)

EDIT: I thin that the wall that's big rocks with ice over is is too glassy-looking.

I also realized that Imistakingly thought that the blue fire was a poe. I'll redo that soon. And here's a good texture for the thing that the octopus's spit out:
http://a.imagehost.org/0135/THE_LEGEND_OF_ZELDA_922180EE_0_2_all.png

On a more serious note, I'm working on the magic meter:
magic_meter_1.png

I looked at the white ground so you could easily see it. I think the background looks pretty good, but the green bar could be better. Options (issue A):
Glass-like:
glass.png

Simple gradient (or like original):
simple.png

Shiny gradient:
shiny.png

Or the current one.

Note: These will look better once I actually pick one - color is bad, they're just samples.

You might notice that the game draws most of the bar twice, giving a double alpha. But one part is lighter than the others. There are a few options (issue B):
* Don't use any alpha values - no shadows, no background.
* Don't use any alpha values - solid shadows, solid background.
* Use alpha and just deal with it.

lol--popcorn!!!! That's freakin' awesome!!!!! And it does kinda work... maybe if it was a little more ball-shaped, though... MAKE IT WORK!!!!!!!! I WANT POPCORN!!!

Ahem, sorry. Yeah, the only thing that I kept from my first go at the fountain was a nice cobblestone floor for in front of Jabu Jabu. And, of course, the stuff that's generic, like the trees and bushes (which I never touched to begin with, since they load automatically from the Hyrule Field textures). So... yeah. Clean slate... and the funny thing is that there are A LOT of textures... a surprising amount of textures for such a seemingly insignificant area.

On that note, a lot of the textures are part of Jabu Jabu himself. And a big portion of my problem the first time around was how to approach that. I'm not sure if all the textures are available (which I suppose I will use HiResEaser to determine--something I should have done the first time), and, if they are, I'm not sure what to replace them with... I know the textures for his sides are extremely basic and small. So it's like "well, what the hell is it?" I can't figure out if he should look more like a whale, or a fish, and what kind of fish, and so on... Or maybe I shouldn't worry about Jabu Jabu at all?

Anyone care to shed some light on that for me? Or throw an opinion my way?

Lol  The popcorn is hilarious in-game.

I think it'd be cool to see him as a fish. But whale would probably look more correct. I'd try a crappy texture for fish and whale just to get an idea.

Isn't Jabu the most irritating part of the game? Of course they would put 100 textures in there. [/unnecessary anger]

Note: See my edited post above.

I think I like option 3 the best... but that's me... My guess is that everyone will like a different one.

As far as the alpha thing is concerned, I'm not really sure... and I don't think I will be until I can see it in-game. That leaves you with 2 options: leave that decision up to others who can see it in their heads, or do 3 times the work that actually needs to be done... good luck with that... then again, you did put a TON of work into those medallions, and it paid off eventually...

Anyway, I trust your judgement...

@Lewa, thanks for the comments on the ice cavern. I'll take a second look at the rock wall you mentioned and lower down the icy-ness. I also like option 3 of the magic bar.

@Chieftain concerning Jabu-Jabu: I guess If you go by his tail fin, he'd be a whale. Plus he has no dorsal fin either - another whale trait.

Sticking him as a whale may limit your options quite a bit, b/c I'm sure he'd look awesome with some nice scales instead of blubbery skin. But either way, that fat bastard is going to be a pain in your butt. I worry that the programmers were not kind with his textures, b/c I'm sure they're stretched and cut and morphed, and flipped and everything else just like Link and all the other NPCs.

Would be great if you could retexture him. Federelli did it in his cel-shade pack, so those may help you get started if highrezeaser gives you issues.

If you're intent on doing him, and like the whale idea, then sperm whales would probably be the closest thing to what he could be related to. Or maybe just any other toothed whale?

Awesome info and advice Zeckron--I'm going out furniture shopping--when I get back, I'll take a crack at making Jabu something sperm whale-like.

I'll upload screens when I'm done and get some more advice from there.

Did someone start on the water temple? I'm there now, so I can give suggestions and such.

@Zeckron: In the ice cavern, the room where you get the iron boots looks amazing. Nice job.
For those rocky/glossy walls, I would decrease the glossyness a little, and add a little frost like you did on the glass tile.

Thanks Lewa, I appreciate that. Honestly I wasn't very happy with how the iron boots room turned out, but i'm very glad you liked it! I just couldn't get anything to look right, even after starting from scratch half a dozen times. I think the magical walls in the great fairy fountain really spoiled me :)

Railroads had started the water temple and did some work in there. I believe Death--Droid uploaded the textures that he did but there are still quite a few to do. In the mean time, I thought I saw that Railroads had moved on to the death mountain crater.

So the water temple would definitely appreciate your help.

...and so would I.

Just FYI, I'm working on Jabu again, and Zeckron, you hit the nail on the head. I'm basing things on a combination of sperm and blue whale textures, and so far, I'm very pleased. Fortunately, the most complex textures from around Jabu's spout were already done (from my first attempt), and I'm still pleased with them... so progress is being made. But I'm not quite ready to put up screens... maybe later tonight?

Cool. Not quite as excited as Zeckron, though :p

So the water temple would definitely appreciate your help.

:D Yay. It will definitely be the most fun place to retexture. But there are so many textures for this temple. And I think that this temple should be done extra well. Maybe we should work together on this one. Maybe not at the same time, so we don't work on top of each other. I'll just do some of the textures and submit the ones that turn out well :)

...and so would I.

 ?

It was a continuation of Zeckron's comment:

"So the water temple would definitely appreciate your help...and so would I."

Going back to that thing a long time back where I said I would do the dungeons... I appreciate it when others take the burden...

Ah. I thought you needed my help specifically :p

Well, I've had success so far with at least one texture:

Don't you just love marble?
Just though I'd get myself started by posting a texture. Won't post every one I make ;)
