  • Most issues reported these days stem from users not enabling their emulators to use the required amount of RAM.
We also tend not to use the search feature but post our issues within the texture pack release page.
Failure to load a texture pack should not be posted in the release thread unless you have already patched the emulator.

If you don't have the resources to use Large/HD texture packs please do not attempt to do so.
Users should have a minimum amount of System RAM not less then 4GB's.
If you have less then 4GB's of RAM do not post about how your emulator crashes,
RAM is dirt cheap so invest some money into your PC.

Looks really really good Zeckron. I think maybe you should just skip the moss/vines altogether on the railings.

I like what you did in the hallway. I would have (;)) tried to make the symbol very similar to the original, but what you did was much easier I'm sure, and gave it a very nice feel. The lighting is excellent.

EDIT: Okay, I did the fire and forest medallions in the requested styles. Hope they are liked:

Actually Lewa, the hallway symbol was the 2nd most complicated texture I've ever done! There's five layers, and I can't even remember how long it took me to fine tune the shadows and lighting. But I started from scratch about 4 times b/c I couldn't make up on mind on a final version, so that took up more time than it should. Boy was it fun though :)

Your medallions look awesome! Metallic, yet glassy and magical all at the same time. There's a lot going on there, and I love them!

Yeah, you're time and effort shows in your work :) Starting over and trying different things isn't all bad, though - I think it's one of th ebest ways to build skill. Glad you put so much time into it :D

Note: The following in brackets is image editing related ramblings.
{
Only five layers, though? Lol, I use so many layers it's ridiculous. It's very handy, though, cuz it's easy to change one aspect without affecting others. For each medallion, I have 6 visible layers for each medallion, not including drop shadows :p I have like 3 invisible layers for guidelines, aplha masks and such. Even for the buttons below, I used a good number of layers. [/blah blah] Do you use photoshop? How do you do the lighting? I know PS has an awesome lighting effects thing. GIMP has something similar.
}

Glad you like the medallions! It's been tough getting them to look just right, and I been worried about what the team would think.

The user interface is calling out to me.
Just to get things started:

http://a.imagehost.org/0252/THE_LEGEND_OF_ZELDA_5ADABA28_3_1_all.png

I can't help but want to do a different styled main menu. Redoing it as-is would look kinda plain... Maybe a marbled stone look?

EDIT: I guess the main menu would look fine as is:

@Lewa, yup using photoshop and illustrator. I'm not very good with illustrator yet, maybe one of these days; but so far for what I've needed to do it's definitely served it's purpose. On a sidenote there, thanks to Chieftain for uploading the medallion symbols in PNG format a few pages ago. I had to use the forest temple symbol for a stone panel relief in the temple itself. Thanks a lot!

Most of the lighting and shadow effects I use are through the Layer Style menus. Bevel&Emboss, Drop Shadow, Inner Shadow are the main ones. But even with all 3 implimented I still end up adding an extra layer blended as Multiply style, where I airbrush a few highlights and shadows into parts that don't render correctly under the other styles.

I've used the "spotlight" under the render menu for a couple bump-maps I've made (such as the floor in the fairy fountains, and one of the floor textures in the Great fairy fountains).

I'm soooooo glad you've decided to tackle the interface and menu screens! They've needed a redux for a long time. Your buttons look great! You've got a knack for icons.

@Zeckron--not sure what the bark is... I'll look closer in a bit, but I want to get some other comments down while I'm thinking about them.

EDIT: Maybe a coastal or California redwood? At first, I wanted to say gumbo limbo, but I was WAY off... I guess it's been a while.

Overall, I love the feel you're going for--you're absolutely right about the first room setting a tone for the temple, and, in my opinion, the "greener" the better--more vegetation. This temple should look overgrown with years and years of plant growth. I'm not sure I have any specific concerns yet... so far, so good. My thought on that railing with the vines is that I have no real problem with it, other than that I do wish the moss was possible. I understand you've tried several times, and I appreciate that... and I know you are diligent about getting this stuff right. Otherwise I'd be saying to try harder with moss. Anyway, keep it up!

@Lewa--I do have a small concern with the fire and forest medallions that I didn't notice with the light medallion (maybe it wasn't an issue with that one, or maybe I just wasn't thinking straight): The symbols seem a little too blended in with the rest of the medallion... it's only a big deal when the textures are scaled down in-game (which they are, so it is a problem)... really, it's not so bad on the fire one, but the forest one is pretty hard to see. Maybe you could darken or lighten the symbol to make it more noticeable against the rest of the medallion? I'm not certain exactly what to do to fix it.

So, in other words, we're really close, but not quite there yet (still--I know this has got to be frustrating!)

The UI buttons are good! (Yay!)

OK, so I'm gonna get off my lazy ass and do some actual work... starting with Zora Fountain--I made some progress a few weeks back, so I think I'm about half-way done. I know I've also got an updated texture for Zora's Domain, but I haven't plugged it in yet, so I haven't tested it. I'll upload some screens when I've made real progress.

Pimp My Ride

Link's medieval elevator finally came out of the carpenter's shop.

(also re-did that first red carpet; still others scattered around i'll need to tend-to)

Ha! Chieftain I KNEW you would know what that wood was :)

Thanks for the comments, I greatly appreciate it. And you're thinking is exactly as mine in regards to the place being overgrown. I've still got a ways to go, so I'm brainstorming to try and come up with a plan for the rest of the temple.

I agree with you about the rails - moss would be better. The vine looks good, but some moist and sticky moss would definitely be preferable. I'll keep it on the back burner for now and come back to it later. Right now I'm tired of messing with the damn thing :) Perhaps inspiration will hit me in a few days.

EDIT: Looks like I'm junking up the thread with too many screenshots; just realized that. My bad. I'll keep them to a minimum the next couple days.

I don't see any problem with screenshots, unless people here have bandwidth issues. I have the absolutely slowest cable possible (peak speed is 90kb/s), and it's fine. I started worrying about posting so many images (well, maybe I did post a few too many), but then I realized that considering the nature of our discussions, visual communication is necessary. [/snob talk:p]

The elevator looks realy good. Lol, Meet the Parents is coming to mind :D

@Chieftan: I have no idea how you can identify a wood at 32x32. Good on you.

@Zeckron (or anyone who has photoshop and is willing to give me a hand):
Since you have photoshop, could you do me a favor and use HiResEaser to stitch the following together?
THE_LEGEND_OF_ZELDA_4D9AE2AD_3_2_all.zip (7 KB)
It's the only thing left of hte main menu (the buttons and alike), and then I will release what I have as a pack :)

Yeah I can.
I'll need you to un-stitch it too, of course :p

Thanks a lot man.
Edit: I'll probly finish it in a few hours :(

OK, it's done. Sorry it took so long--was having issues uploading it. Stitched file represents all 4 files at 8x size. HiResEaser also adds a layer on top of the textures for the hi-res version. Regardless where you do your creative work, the end result should be on this layer (and this layer alone), and saved as PSD... I'll need it to be that way so I can un-stitch the whole thing later.

Anyway, link is below. Had to compress the file to get mediafire to work with it... it kept saying a 30mb file was too big (when the limit is 100mb--weird). So it's a .rar file.

Have fun!

Thanks a lot :)
I'll edit this post when complete.
If size is an issue, you can definitely upload it at original resolution. I'll scale it up to the size you specify.

Edit: WOW that's a huge resolution. Okay if I scale it down? Seriously...9216x3854...

Chieftain459, can you please recompress in a free format that isn't proprietary or patented such as .7z or .lzma or .gz or .bz2? I'd like to see your work :)

Okay, I forgot to give chieftan one of the images, but no worries, I did the stitching manually. It is completed. @Chieftan: Your work did still save me a lot of time, though.

All buttons for the main menu (616kb).

Let me know if I missed anything, or if you want anything changed. All of these are fit for even a ridiculous screen resolution like 1440x990 or something.

Now that I think about it, perhaps the button glow could be a bit cooler.

Just use 7zip as it can open .rar files.

You just don't get it. >_>

For some people very enthusiastic about open source (to the point of fanaticism for some), that is NOT a option. You should know better, considering your a developer for open source projects, and you should take your GPL more seriously.

You are seriously hurting the FSF if you DON'T use LGPL/GPL code. Don't you know about the open source replication of programs that are proprietary, because closed source apps like Project64 are evil??????!!!!!

..Amazing, a open source developer who is not even passionate about what they do. And you shamelessly copied the HQ2XS source without crediting nitsuja, AND copied MY implementation without the credit information intact. Sure, its GPL, but thats not the fucking point. The point is, you just don't care.
