  • Most issues reported these days stem from users not enabling their emulators to use the required amount of RAM.
    We also tend not to use the search feature but post our issues within the texture pack release page.
    Failure to load a texture pack should not be posted in the release thread unless you have already patched the emulator.

    If you don't have the resources to use Large/HD texture packs please do not attempt to do so.
    Users should have a minimum amount of System RAM not less then 4GB's.
    If you have less then 4GB's of RAM do not post about how your emulator crashes,
    RAM is dirt cheap so invest some money into your PC.

Zeckron great work that wood texture works quite well i like it.

Chieftan459 your pack looks quite good till i get to one of the background texture......
The wormy one needs a remake it personally makes me feel sick :O.
Maybe try something else even though it may not be true to the original..

OK, just for you death--droid, I toned down the gastric mucosa textures. I replaced them with some wrinkled pig skin with a plastic wrap filter... so it's still kinda gross, but not so bad... screens:





Better? Or still too sickening?

OK. I'll update the pack and re-upload later.

In the meantime, I've been thinking about what Zeckron said about inventory...

While I don't think we could completely list where each texture appears throughout the entire game, I do think we should pause on the retexturing, and take a little time to list EVERY place in the game, and how complete those areas are, so we can plan/track our progress. I think I'll start on that later, too.

Also if a texture is reused it would be better to design a whole new texture to remove any copy&paste look in the game and personally i think listing every place in the game is a bit useless. Buuuuut if you do it post the list and I'll edit the first page.
Also Railrods could you please upload your textures on mediafire.com i can't download files from megaupload.com at the moment

I don't disagree about the copy and paste thing, but I think you misunderstand. A lot of different areas in the game call the same texture (same address). That's what I was talking about with Zeckron. As far as listing everything in the game, anyone who knows Zelda knows that there are 15 billion places you can end up in the game, and a lot of it is fairly obscure. That's why I want to list everything out, so we don't have to spend time later trying to figure out what we have done and what needs to be done... and if we have a list, everyone is on the same page (which a lot of people ask about: "Do you have a list of what needs to be done," "What still needs to be done," "What has been done so far," etc).

Ah ok i get it now.
I had no idea that some textures are being called from the same address its a good idea.
Thanks for the uploads as well, I'll test them out straight away.

EDIT:

@squall_leonhart I may or may not have a try at them someone else may end up trying to work on them.

Okay I finally figured out my problem with some textures not loading. I was using an old outdated build of Rice's plugin. Got the newest one, problem solved. The skies never looked so beautiful :) It's really killed my frame rates so I had to drop the full screen rez quite a bit. But that's my own damn fault for having such an outdated PC.

Chieftain I've got to disagree about the changes you made to Jabu Jabu. Personally I feel your original build was perfect, but that's just me. Bravo for turning out such a wonderful pack! Truly amazing.

Things are moving along more quickly now that the darn wood panels are finished. Working on a few more textures in the fish pond. One of them that I'll save for last (besides the freaking reeds) is the cracked wall where the little stream feeds into the pond.

I need to get permission from the original artist of the high rez walls that are used so I can tweek it to have this big crack in it. See below for what I mean:

Ignore the black stripes on the rocks, that's just for marking purposes. Oh and the reeds currently shown in the screenshot are just a placeholder. It's actuallly a copy/paste of the reeds around Hyrule Castle (which look very amazing in their native environment). I won't be using them for the fish pond but wanted something else to look at in the mean time.

So, who made those wall textures and may I use it to make that crack in the wall? The files are the ones used in the Hyrule Castle pack and are:

I've never had a problem with Rice, but I could never get Glide64 to work. Granted, I didn't try too hard, 'cause I was fine with Rice.

@Zeckron--things are starting to shape up, huh? Looking forward to the finished product! As for the Jabu thing, I think I need to stick with the second texture--some people do have weak stomachs, and I can't blame people for not wanting the inside of a human stomach on a bunch of walls. Like I said before, that was the benefit of having such low-res textures back in 1998--even if it was a shot of gastric mucosa, it was too blurry to tell for sure, and less nauseating because of that. Oh well.

Yeah, I think I'll start on that inventory today... that will definitely take some time, I'll update again when it's done.

Navi Wings!

Well this was a nice little distraction!

Thanks to my 10yr old niece for *making* me work on Navi. After a few hours I cranked out 7 wing designs and 3 "light ball" designs for Navi and my niece helped with a few of them. I was really surprised that she's got a great eye for graphical design, helped me out on a few other fish pond textures :). Nothing too extravagant b/c after all, you rarely get a close-up view of her wings unless you are specifically trying to do that.

But this was a helluva lot of fun, and was totally worth the hours I put into it.

Here's a collage of the 7 I made (nope, sorry these aren't pure original artworks).

For close-up views, my favorite is the Victorian Fantasy. However, most of the time is spent with long-distance shots, so for that my favorites are the Dragon Wraith and Butterfly Princess. But the Pesky Little Devil is fun for long-range too.

In regards to Navi's "light ball", the Star Burst is fun but almost a little distracting. So I stick with the 4-point star most of the time.

Anyway, have fun with them. I'll consider them a beta until more folks have had a look at them and confirm that they work correctly on other PCs.

Mix and match. And if you get time, make your own b/c it's quite easy.

Footnote: you'll notice that the _ALL copy of the texture has an outline of Navi's original stock wing. This is not an issue though, just copy both files into your highrez folder and the game will load it correctly. This is currently an issue with every single sprite texture I've got my hands on. But I have no issues with proper display on my PC. Doubt you will either.

EDIT: Now that I'm reading back through the names I came up with for each texture, it almost seems kinda silly. But, you get the idea :)

Hey Zeckron, can I get a couple of textures from you? Working on inventorying everything (going well so far), and I want to see just how many places use that wood. I see wood EVERYWHERE, and a lot of it looks the same, so I'm thinking it may all reference that same texture. I also want that stone texture for the fish pond walls (the one you were working on a while back), so I can get the tiling right.
