What's new
  • Most issues reported these days stem from users not enabling their emulators to use the required amount of RAM.
We also tend not to use the search feature but post our issues within the texture pack release page.
Failure to load a texture pack should not be posted in the release thread unless you have already patched the emulator.

If you don't have the resources to use Large/HD texture packs please do not attempt to do so.
Users should have a minimum amount of System RAM not less then 4GB's.
If you have less then 4GB's of RAM do not post about how your emulator crashes,
RAM is dirt cheap so invest some money into your PC.

I would like to say thanks to squall_leonhart
    for posting this Solution.

Anyone want to test this out for me and take a screen shot? I am editing blind here and would love to see the final map output before I do the last couple.

HQ4x is great, but requires a lot of cleanup depending on the image. It has trouble with sharp corners, and needs a little bit of manual modification. I tried to stick as close to the original as possible. Where pieces are sharp, they are sharp. Where smooth, they are smooth.

Fed, any thoughts? Oh, and what do we think about the shadows? I tried a very minimal 4 pixel drop, but it is hard to get it perfect with the transparency.

look like that...

Just my little opinion, it can look better if the features can be finer (as on the hyrule castle maps)

I wouldn't go off of that (bottom image) one though. That (bottom image) one took a bit of time to make. It wasn't a simple filter procedure. I had to lay down some paths to create the lines, set up the tones for the areas, and then go in and adjust some of the corners that needed to be sharp. It wouldn't be the best way to go to redo all of them.

You want to say that hq4x is not the good way and it's better to redone all maps mamually ? (sorry, my english is too bad to easy understood)

EDIT: ok, understood now... but line is very big with hq4x filter

Yah Kman, I figured that one took a bit of time. Redoing these all by hand would take hours, and wouldn't look that much different from an hqx one.

I had applied a slight gaussian to the image to smooth some of the color differentiations a tad, but I wasn't sure how it would come out on the real thing. Try this one, its much better when the map is sharper.

[EDIT]I also think my external black highlight may be a little to thick. The one on the right is just two pixels. I think this matches better.

Ideally, the maps ought to be done from scratch. The hq filters aren't too good at filtering some of the gradients (look at the Deku Tree in the map, looks really bad) and the outline is not as smooth as a remade texture, but bumpy. Hq filtered maps will do for the time being though as they are quicker to produce.

I see plastic wrap and grain

I'd really aprecciate it if a mod could clean this thread, and remove useless posts.

I know, I see that too. I admit. I was just trying to be nice.

I acually think the "useless" posts just give this thread a more community feeling in itself. I hardly ever go to any of the others. lol. BTW Djipi, we aren't trying to be mean, we were just being brutally honest. That keese fire really gives it a type of Wind Waker feeling to it. Maybe you could start a whole new project making it look cel shaded like WW. Just a thought.

So, in order to not make this a useless post, I'll give you people an update: My motherboard is being repaired, but I saved my stuff on an external hard drive and I'm working on it on a separate computer. Since my friends computer doesn't have the rom or an emulator, I can't post a screen. I have finished the hallway where the bats are and the other external hallways, and I must say, they are looking pretty good (but some of the textures I have been working blind with). As soon as I get the new motherboard I'll post pics and hopefully be done with the rooms where you fight the iron knuckles and others.

Actually, the only map that really needs fixing out of all 23 is the deku tree. Most all of the other maps turn out excellent with hq filtering and a bunch of touchups because they don't have complex gradients like the tree base. The deku tree gradient is especially tough though because even the original was a big mess. This may need to be recreated manually.

The thing that is nice about the hq though is that it is almost identical in scale and piece location to the original map. Since it is a map, it kind of has to stay the same. Hand made variations may have slightly different pixel variations, but really aren't worth the time of recreation. The best of both worlds I think is a template based off of the hgx filtered version.

And does the word 'talent' describe your efforts mate?
The way I see it, like djipi, you have just another project in the making. Nothing much to click into and keep updated on. You should thank Kman for the popularity of this thread.
In my opinion, it's like night and day between his stuff and anyone else's so stop getting so jealous and defensive whenever someone post's in 'your' thread because they're just trying to contribute and a friendly manner.

I agree, it's your opinion!

it's not a jealousy question, simply no need double post (one here and one in Djipi's thread)

if I use your reasoning : why not speak about other game hires here...

it's simply for make a clear thread

What crawled up your a$$? Sure, Fed gets defensive of this thread every once in a while, but there is no need to bash him. I have nothing but respect for both Fed and KMan. Sure he doesn't like to add others work into the pack, and he sometimes overreacts, but don't we all. I'm gonna say now QUIT SPAMMING!!! If you don't like his work, don't go bashing him, ever hear of constructive critisism. I'm very opinionated and Fed is also, from what I can see. I entirely agree with Fed about this. Some mod needs to come in here and clean up the useless posts like yours, hoju, and this one. (I admit I am responsible for some of the spamming in this thread.)

I only agree with the part about KMan, we should thank him, but we should also thank Fed for bringing him in and continue to make the non-world textures, despite his downcomings. If you don't like Fed or Djipi, don't come here, there is no room for people that say s*** without saying how the person can improve it. SO CAN WE PLEASE GET BACK TO THE ENTIRE POINT OF THIS THREAD!!!!

Fed, don't listen to this guy, your help here is appreciated, at least from me.

Alright, let's get back to normal here.

My friend was able to obtain an emulator and I had my things saved on a disc, so I'm back in buisness, at least for however long he let's me stay on his computer till tomorrow afternoon. Here are the pics I talked about earlier.

EDIT#1: OK, the door is a little over the top, but it certainly looks interesting, huh?

Wowsers Amon thats the kind of work i expect for a remaster texture project I can't wait for that to be released. :icecream:

Wow, Amon!
That door is absolutely AWESOME! I like that glittering thing on the gold parts of he door :)

And also those stone walls are really cool.

The only things I kinda dislike are the carpet and the torch.

The carpet looks somehow like an old street painted red and the torch is somehow...strange...I can't say exactly but I do not really like it. Sorry. :(

But everything else is really good.

I think Fed should take your textures you already made for Ganon's Castle and put them in his pack ;)

Amon, while your work is somewhat impressive, it's not what i'm after. I want higher quality work, such as Kman's.

I'll be a critic now, and tell you what's wrong with your textures :). Take it just as advice.
They are flat, and it's pretty easy to tell that the texture is being repeated constantly. You should try to make it so that you can't tell that the same texture is being repeated all the time.
They also like continuity. It seems like you used photosourced textures in your work. Don't, since realism is not the way to go with things that are seen all the time, specialy with rock walls.
If you'd like to make every single item, i'll be glad to include it in my pack (gray versions as well). Just make sure to make the drop shadow exactly the same for very item. Check my Ocarina to get it as equal as possible

HoJu, suck my balls :).

Djipi, looks like it's from Wind Waker :).

Rpg, i'll gladly accept every map remade simply by applying 4xhq to them.

LOL; :teehee: somebody likes google image search, eh? (has the same texture from google) Nice work. I like the door, but the carpet could use some work though.
I think you all are doing a great job. :bouncy: For all those who think they can do better, shut-up and show us! Eveybody lighten-up! We all have different tastes and standards. While Kman does all his from scratch and they look awesome, it takes a long time for him to get textures done. Djipi gets alot done, but some would say his textures aren't good enough. Federelli is somewhere in between and from what I understand doesn't like stolen textures. No one can make everybody happy, so if you don't like the textures don't use them! That's just my two cents. :icecream:

Excellent work Fed and Kman, but can we please get a little more serious and less child-like in this thread. Your work is good, but it isn't perfect. Try to show at least a little kindness to those who try.

Thanks, keep up the good work.

The only texture I think looks out of place is the Stone of Agony subscreen replacement, since it's a picture of a real rumble pack, while the actual item is a stone shaped like a rumble pak - like the model:
