Chanka beats Icarus to the ground by far. Awesome work guys. :D

Kind of a silly thing to say seeing as parts of Icarus are in Chankast. But then ignorance is bliss :p

This is a good moment.. thanks alot to all the authors, you guys rock.

edit: Mezkal, so you own a DOA Arcade Board?

Unfortunately no.....They're rather hard to find in Australia :( I deleted the rom backups too in case you're interested. My point was that ElSemi at the very least made my dream come true with NebulaM2. However seeing as I own DOA2 : DC I have no probs with playing it in Chankast :p

mmm i've never heard the chankast developers say that, I actually thought the programmers were spanish and were ex members of the guys that coded Commandos 1,2 and 3 and Preatorians but maybe thats a rumour?

Also they said they coded this in 3 months, why would they fail to mention they used the Icarus emulator's source code that never seen public release, then to make an emulator of no credits to the author's of Icarus?

Is this all rumours, or have i been living on mars under a large rock?

I am not bothered its all good as far as im concerned! ;)

Well thats not exactly true, there is no Icarus code inside Chakast, but we credit some Icarus developers for their support, and because we have share ideas about emulation with them...

I think these types of comparisons are more insulting than anything. I mean no disrespect to the developers of n64 emus, but the n64 has been dead for several years, emulated for quite a few and still no single n64 emulator is capable of running more than about 30% of the games. Long story short, n64 emulators are unstable and have lousy compatability. I think it has to do with the mentality on that scene that if a game doesn't work properly, make a custom renderer for it. Imo this is the wrong way to go as the core of the emulator must have errors as well, else it wouldn't need a custom renderer.

How about the best emulator since epsxe, at least that one works well. ;)

Mods, I do apologise for the multi posts ina row....but as you can see these are all replies/responses to different questions and/or statements made by others.....

HowardC? WTF are you on about? PJ64 STILL updates its compatibility database and in fact most games run quite well with Jabbo's D3D 1.5 driver. Sure some blending and focus effects still don't work (Fisheye lens in Perfect Dark for example) but for the most part almost my whole N64 collection will load and run quite stabily so I fail to see your comparison. The N64 was practically the precursor to the DC. It was another case of a gfx hardware specialist vendor (SGI : N64 / PVR : DC) working hand in hand with serious software company (Nintendo and SEGA) who could license a cavalcade of characters from previous retail success. I'm not denegrating the PSX-E team or any other Playstation emulation gurus but the DC and N64 are much harder consoles to emulate. On the PSX, Alpha effects are generally faked, as is Z-Ordering and Buffering. But the N64 and DC support these features in hardware, along with a slew of others that the PSX couldn't hope to achieve.

Sure some PSX games look great via emulation and decent plugins (Chrono Chross comes to mind with Pete's OpenGL plugin) but the plugins themselves are doing most of the work, not the emulator. Therefore u need a variety of plugins to run different games on PSX-Pro/E based emus. The compatibility lists at ngemu and other such sites discuss this quite clearly.

Anyway, rant done........enjoy your opinion whichever way you lean :)

Chankast rocks and that's all there is too it :)

Cheers,

Mezkal

Hmmm, I think you'll find both PJ64, and 1964 (+ I suspect Nemu 0.8) have higher compat rates than that.... IMO you need to learn something called respect.

Anyways, back on topic - really looking forward to this release, the sooner the better ;) lol

I can still imagine his feelings... I really like project 64 and 1964 but I really get annoyed that every game has it's problems and need different plugins :(.... But nontheless we should be thankfull that they are arround....

Damn. I was never excited about Dreamcast emulation until now. I've played Nebula Model 2 on my comp. and it kicks ass. :p It's cool as hell to hear another, a hell of a better version of Chankast is coming out this weekend. You friggin' rule, Chankast team! :)

Oh, and the only thing I have to say about one console that does suck even after being dead for so long, and yet today, it can't even play a game yet in emulation is the Sega Saturn.

this emulator is GREAT, I play emulators since the time of nesticle (nes) and I've never seen one so good at the first release, soon I donate someting too.

The saturn is damn difficult to emulate, actually the only working programs are girigiri-gav that runs very good in speed and graphics but has A LOT of crashes and freezes and is no longer developed, another is satourne, playable but the sound sucks, speed is about 45/60 fps and it's in developement by fabien autrel (go fabien! ), SSF it's in early state and plays some games with graphic problems, but I believeb that satourne would work fine in the next releases

Garrofi one of Commandos' programmers? O.O
/me swoons
Wish I could code.... that game was damn addictive: I played every single expansion and version that came out here in Italy, too bad there won't be a commandos 4 :D
Returning in topic, it's pretty funny when you look at all this with the eye of a reviewer. Just how many members of the emulation scene were brought back by Chankast and its "colleagues" Satourne, Dolphin, etc?
Also, apart from the usual noobs looking for BIOSes and game dumps, a lot of skilled programmers were brought on this board (nope, not me :D )

Way to go Chanka Team !!

I do hope that this version will now actually run on my laptop & desktop at home...

Alpha 0.1 just crashed when 'init' was pressed.

:)

Keep up the good work, i dont think you realise how many people you have made very happy by releasing such an excellent emulator !! And ignore all the bad comments, just concentrate on making chankast the best !!

Hi all,

First at all, we wanna announce ElSemi has joint chanka team :) He is the programmer of nebula and nebula model 2.

And about chankast, we are gonna release a new chankast version this weekend. You are gonna love the new features:

- more stable, no more random crashes
- better gfx core
- more compatibility
- speed improvements
- cable selector
- new pad support
- and a lot of more features

Garrofi

Great... can't wait for the next release!
But means that ElSemi joint your team, that he discontinue his work on nebula or/and nebula model 2? Please not, I want to play sometimes the model 2 games in a good speed... and this great emu was a step in this right direction :(
But we will see... chankast has the higher priority, because I have more DC games...

I can't say it often enough: Chankast Rox!
