What's new
  • Most issues reported these days stem from users not enabling their emulators to use the required amount of RAM.
We also tend not to use the search feature but post our issues within the texture pack release page.
Failure to load a texture pack should not be posted in the release thread unless you have already patched the emulator.

If you don't have the resources to use Large/HD texture packs please do not attempt to do so.
Users should have a minimum amount of System RAM not less then 4GB's.
If you have less then 4GB's of RAM do not post about how your emulator crashes,
RAM is dirt cheap so invest some money into your PC.

I would like to say thanks to squall_leonhart

Zelda Ocarina of time Community Retexture Project

@squall: Are you talking about the comic eyes or the ones made from photos?
I did the later but i didn't think I released them, as they were for experimenting purposes only.

Hi Chieftain
1. A few weeks and many things to organize - not much time. Kakariko and the Graveyard will be out. And I hope I will get a few tutorials done until then too.

Again: If any of you want to know how to do a certain texture - just ask and I'll do a tutorial

2. http://www.n64redux.com/content/ocarina-time-community-retexture-project
look at the overview section - basically all dungeons except the deku tree need to be done.

3. There is a pretty basic tutorial I wrote some time ago on how to do it.

If you have further Questions just ask.
For the newest version if the rice Plugin go here:

I'm very excited to have someone working on this with professional experience, so If there is anything I could help you with - just ask!

I mean the eyes that are in the downloadable packs, they make link look really... err... freaky? to say the least.

I think he's talking about young Link, and I think I agree with him... the eyes are shaped wrong... like he's a constipated girl, or something.

Anyway, so I decided to start small--mode, I hope you haven't done this already (since you're working on the graveyard and all), but i went and did the grotto at the back of the graveyard where you get the sun's song. Actually, I'm surprised at how easy it was to get the hang of retexturing. I have the files ready to go, if anyone wants to give them a try... how do I upload them?

Yes please!! I haven't done this area yet.
I'd really love to see your work!
You need a space to upload?

Is there anything else I can do to help you? I have a collection of tiling photo textures I mostly use as a base if you are interested.

About the Eyes: These textures shouldn't be in there - well just delete them. They won't be in the next full release. Actually it is a girl. I experimented a lot and this is based on a picture from Time magazine. I always wondered how to do the faces. I think they should just look like hires versions of the original. But then again it's quite tempting to use photo sources and see how it looks...

I think I should clarify something before everyone gets their hopes up: like I said, I'm a professional graphic artist. I have experience in Photoshop, but most of my work involves print media (magazines, packaging, etc), and when i'm in photoshop, it's usually because I'm retouching an image (usually a photograph). This is a little different for me. Hopefully my work is up to your standards, but if not, I can always work to improve. I just don't want everyone expecting miracles... yet.

Anyway, i think i have a place to store files now... Link for the Sun Song grotto:

Let me know what I can do to make this better--I figure if I can get this right, I'll have a better idea how to approach the actual dungeons.

Also, mode, that collection of images would be awesome.

Off the bat, i'm planning on working with the green plasma pools and the steam trails in the room with the Redeads... I'm not happy with either of those yet (actually, I'm considering just leaving the original textures in, and not messing with them, they look OK as is).

Wow!!!
These are great textures. They look absolutely awesome and are faithfull to the original ones. I never had so much fun playing through a mini dungeon. It really looks just stunning. I expecially liked the bones. They look very real.
I'd love to see more of your're work and with a little more practice...who knows.

If it's alright with you I'll post a few pictures of your textures:

You're right if you have a little experience in Photoshop you get the hang very fast. And most textures are doen very quick too, thats why I love doing it.
I hope we will see more of your work. Especially since I have to stop working soon and the other contributors have been a little..reluctant.

The promised texture collection is 64MB so I'll upload it tomorrow - it's getting late.

Thanks mode! I'll probably start on Dodongo Cavern tomorrow. Maybe I'll play with it some tonight, but it's late... so probably not.

Nice to hear chieftain
Some textures of deku tree (lower half) and dodongo cavern are the same or very similar. I don't know if they have the same texture id (then they would already apear hires when entering the cavern) or just look the same.
Well have a look, it could save you some time. If you want to redo from scratch, this is also fine with me ;)

Here are the promised textures!

@death droid: yepo I'll upload everything I have.

Thanks for the compliments guys.

@mode: got the textures--thanks! should save me time searching for stuff. Yes, I was thinking some textures from the lower parts of Deku Tree looked similar--will definitely try to incorporate those--not just to save time, but to help with continuity.

Thinking ahead a little--what on earth are the textures inside Jabu Jabu? I thought maybe muscles, but that's not quite right... since I'm not sure what the wall and floor textures are, I'm going to have a hard time making hi-res versions. Suggestions, anyone? Or should I just go with my gut and make the color match?

That's what I thought earlier--I knew I had posted something today, but I couldn't see it... odd.

Anyway, I've got a bit of an issue/question--I'm dumping textures for Dodongo Cavern now (slowly, room by room)... and there are some that I can't get to dump. Specifically, in the big, main room, I can't get the floors, walls, or lava to dump into the png_all or png_by_rgb_a folders... I can get see some of them in the bmp folders... can I edit those files in the bmp folders and convert them to png? Do they reference the same address? What's keeping the textures from dumping in the png folders?

You cant edit the bmp textures, but you can edit the textures in the ci_by_png which happen to be the same textures in the bmp folders.

Quick update--once again, it surprises me how quick things can be retextured. In finishing the large room on Dodongo Cavern, I have roughly half the textures done for the dungeon... so hopefully in a couple of days I'll have it finished. When I get a chance, I'll put some screenshots of what's done so far up... but it's late.

Chieftain, great to hear this, I'm really looking forward to see the results.

Don't worry about the bmp textures. You'll find everything either in the _all folder or the ci_by_png folder.
You don't need to use rgb and a anymore like older packs do.
