Big Nintendo Annoucement

(Very well put post up there RatTrap. Kudos)
Of course, GBA2 still isn't officially announced so *potentially* it could still be that (anyone who saw the feature in Edge will be able to note that the timing would be about right) BUT... if I remember the translation correctly, it mentioned NGC specifically. It's a strange one to try figure out. It wouldn't be a DVD-style add on, hard drive, modem etc, because that isn't Nintendo's way of working. If its anything to do with games, I'd guess it would be technology rather than specific titles, but it'd need to be something pretty major to get people interested. I wondered briefly if it could *possibly* be something to do with remarks before the NGC was ever released which I seem to recall Mr Miyamoto came out with about "experimenting with motion-sensing" technology being implemented (early pads were rumoured to have been developed within Nintendo with attempts at this)... Yamauchi-san (Nintendo's now-retired President for those just joining us)recently made some offhand remarks in an interview about new technologies for new types of gaming he thought we'd be seeing soon, which kind of fits with that. But again, it'd have to be something major... damned if I know what it is if not that anyway! :)
Don't you just love it when Nintendo throw out a talking point like this for us? ;)

EDIT: It may be scary how far we manage to stray off-topic sometimes, but its even more scary we *always* somehow end up back on topic anyway. ;)

Sorry... XBox became good when exactly? Did I miss something? ;)
The M$/Nintendo story goes thus; Nintendo humoured Microsoft and granted them a meeting. When Yamauchi-san realised M$ were actually serious, the talks stopped immediately. Yes, in reality Nintendo HAD thought it was some kind of joke.
That evil Yamauchi-san knew his stuff alright... maybe even he laughed at that one.
Who `likes a console anyway`? I do. In fact, I like several consoles. The DC has some of the highest quality games such as Virtua Tennis, Shenmue 1+2, Sega Bass Fishing, PSO, Ferrari and the good two Crazy Taxi games. The N64 hosted several genre-redefining games and several of the "best-game(s)-ever" as exclusives. Goldeneye just doesnt work well without the N64 pad. None of the games do - part of the console design is part of the games. The Saturn had some great games such as VF2. Heck, even the PS had Ridge Racer (NeGcon mmm) and a few others. I can't help wonder if the remark came from the "hey... emulation = free software" way of things, or piracy as its more commonly known. Unless of course you own a console while claiming to hate them..? See the trap of admitting to either side of that...

As for the big announcement... well I'm puzzling over that one. It *must* be something interesting if Nintendo are talking it up. Can anyone remember the last time Nintendo actually talked ANYTHING up? At all? It's the `something that'll make everyone want a GameCube` part of it that really gets you wondering. Of course December is Zelda time, but that wouldn't be a new announcement or deep down worth the hype since its success is as assured as that of Mario was.
100 Marios? Marionette? Hmm, games are unlikely to be given this level of hype, especially so early on. Some kind of insanely cool add-on? Well, maybe, but again not likely to get this hype. Films on NGC discs? Possible given the recent divx announcement (and their deal with a certain Q manufacturing firm who had that in mind)... though again hardly a world-beating idea. God knows, but it sure has me curious.

A. Yeah its not great yet, but we are pointing at the direction xbox is going, which happens to be in the opposite direction of the gamecube.

2. goldeneye would be much easier to play with a keyboard/mouse.

C. last console I owned was an snes...

4. The only franchises nintendo owns now are pretty dated, and they haven't shown any motivation to move beyond them.

Microsoft buys nintendo?

I was going to say that :p

me three  in fact thats what I was thinking when I first read the topic of this thread.

I don't own an xbox, I dont plan to own one, but I cant help but notice how its going to trash the gc in the end.

Come on, Goldeneye 007 is easier with a Logitech WingMan Rumblepad then with a keyboard!

Gee whiz

"this isn't a bad marketing move though.. alot of ppl just need a system that will let them check emails.. surf.. pay stuff thru the net.. watch dvd movies.. and then be able to play a bunch of games.. "
hey RatTrap, i think you just descreibed a computer

GODLIKE
i dunno.. if goldeneye had come out for the PC.. it would have had to battle it out with Quake and UT.. if your gonna bugg anyone at all about that game.. bugg Rare for making a game of that style for the n64 in the first place.. the thing is though.. that game did very good.. so i dun see the problem.. if you didn't like the controls you could for much less money buy any shooter for the PC anyways.. so.. meh..

thanks for the kudos there Stalkid :p.. right back at ya..

bout the new technologies:
well.. hmmm.. see.. i'm sworn to secrecy.. i do have a good reliable source from japan.. but the problem is.. if Famitsu has made a "hint"-ish remark about this.. then i don't see how ppl can't figure it all out.. since Famitsu must know something about it.. they would'nt just be speculating.. and with all the other "hints" all around.. it's very weird that no magazine has figured it out.. Nintendo are trully great when it comes to keeping secrets though.. and leading ppl off somewhere else so they don't find out the true secret :p.. but this has been given so many hints allready.. that i can't see how it'll make it till it's release..

UNLESS!!!..
this rumor was not of the 1 big thing.. but of the bunch of other things happening at almost the same time..

so.. it's eather 1.. the really big thing.. or 2.. the 6 other things happening..

i can't predict wich one they mean.. and wich one nintendo means could have refered to Famitsu ed Tsushin-sama eather.. because my source has no dates on anything.. so maybe it's all hyped up beyond recognition but maybe not even Famitsu knows what this is about.. wich would be pretty funny hehe..

it's quite a dilemma for nintendo if you think it thru market wize tho.. because for some reason.. i don't think the "big" 1 thing was aimd at this year.. or even next summer (at least this is the state i last heard the project was in).. but most of the other projects going on afaik.. are aimd at the end of this year.. so this hype might end up blowing up in their faces if ppl expect the things they "seem" to have planned for next year..

this is kind of dificult to post about without giving it away.. also.. i don't have real dates for anything other then the ones nintendo make officially.. since Nintendo is very strict to whom they give that kind of information.. also.. it might never work in the end.. and then this leakd info will be worth nothing.. and ppl will be mad.. so they might think again and not even sell this.. coz i know the first try did'nt sell well.. but hmmm.. we all know that the big N has tried.. gloves.. guns.. basookaz.. run/jump/walk pads.. and even a visor..

knowing that.. it's kind of easy to asume.. that with todays technology.. it might be possible for them to do juuuust abit more than that..

but like i said.. this "rumor".. could be about other things.. at least i don't think it's for anything else than the new GBA,Arcade machines, Cellda, Zelda and company.. coz i trully doubt the main big project is finished allready..

ehm.. haha.. had to edit out some stuff.. was telling too much :p..

you git! Couldn't you have waited until I at least got home :p

anyway, the confirming a new GBA doesn't make much sense, since it'd kill GBA sales in the all important Christmas period unless they were doing a rush release of it in Japan, to make it this Christmas' "must have" even then though a new GBA is expected by the fans at some point since we know this one has it's in adequacies and the GP32 comparatively is bloody damm impressive, but then again why bother with just a button upgrade to the GBA, keep the backwards compatibility but push the technology ahead again, to the level of the previous console generation, then the only thing limiting games is the cart size, crap the Gamecube is almost small enough to be portable so why not just intergrate that and the GBA into the clamshell design ;)

personally I'd like this "Big Thing" to be gamecube gaming love

I was doing some early xmas shopping today with the wife and kid (when youre married you do stuff like that) and I bought a cool gizmo at Radio Shack for my sister's boyfriend .... it's a controller shaped console made by Activision that has 10 Activision games for Atari2600 built-in. It was $20. Plugs directly into the TV. While driving home I was thinking along your lines blizz ... imagine a controller-shaped N64 level (or even GC level or beyond) console with a MD drive like we've been talking about with output either to a TV or a headset/visor, or a clip-on portable screen. In other words, I'm thinking that the separate box and controller may disappear from future consoles as the tech is getting shrunk down to a point as to make the console box unnecessary ... except of course for Microsoft which will eventually release a portable that requires a fork lift to transport.

I think the XBOX is going to surprise us. MS bought RARE and CAPCOM for a reason. We'll see.

u seem to like the xbox quite a lot........

when did they buy capcom? that was just a roumour

* Stezo2k hints to some1 to close this thread

Actually I heard they bought it, but wasn't sure. Also, I actually don't like the XBOX right now. I just have seen MS doing so much to really be a contender. I can't see them doing what they're doing without a plan. I really don't care though 'cause I do 99.9% of my gaming on the PC. I don't even own an XBOX.

You know, you realy have to begin to question nintendos ethnics. The only few console games that have interested me recently are: The Terminator: Dawn of Fate, Conflict: Desert Storm, gta3, and the metal gear franchise. Guess which of the three modern day consoles they aren't being released for? I can't help but wonder why this is.

Perhapse somebody could shed some light on this?

exclusive people exclussive, which one of these games is going to be exclusive to anything? and the answer is none of them, The terimnator game is going out to ever console and pc. Conflict desert storm already came out for pc awhile ago, man that shit is as sterotypical as any other first person shooter, i stopped playing that dumb-shit game in about 5 sec, gta3? uh, pc, metal gear solid? pc, yes it'll take awhile, but in the end it does end up on pc, and yes, is better(given with the right hardware)

anyway, point to be given, consoles are meant to be bought if:

A. You have enough money just to blow on random gaming stuff
B. Your computer sucks ass and your to lazy to upgrade
C. or your just to stupid to realize you have many of games already on your pc that are for that $200 console you just bought(GC an exception because pleanty of those games will never go on any other type of system except GC);)

ain't it the truth though? Who the hell has ever played a mario game on any sega based console? unless i've been misinformed, never;)

no shit i'm for GC, partly cause i own one, but i took into consideration what games were coming out, not how fast the freak'n GPU is and shit, click sig. link;) and i did own a ps2 at one point, but i returned it realizing the games weren't for me, it can obviously be highly opinionated based, as most people already said.

Well, just to add some fuel to the fire here :D :

System | Sep 16 - Sep 22 | Total Sales in 2002
PlayStation 2 | 43,666 | 2,857,983
GameBoy Advance | 36,066 | 1,796,714
GameCube | 12,784 | 651,812
PSone | 2,678 | 202,965
Xbox | 2,473 | 276,735
Swan Crystal | 2,158 | 88,995
GameBoy Color | 875 | 93,321
WonderSwan Color | 690 | 90,011

Those numbers are from console sales in Japan taken from Dengeki. And, Stalkid64, you said "(wasn't GBA even outselling it at one point?)". To tell the truth, the GBA has been outselling the Xbox the whole time. It sells by far more then both the GC and the Xbox. I won't say more, just let you figure out whos doing good over there and who's not...:sleepy:

I had a feeling that was the case... damned if I could remember for sure at the time tho`. Perhaps Nintendo's big announcement will simply be "Ladies and gentlemen... the XBox... is DEAD."? ;)

holy shit the PSOne out sold the X-Box? that's a really bad sign

Well, it is a better console. I mean, with games like EA's F1 2000, it's bound to outsell it.

/me pokes Stalkid64. ;)
