X-Box Vs GameCube

I have seen many comments on this forum that are constantly slagging off one or the other!!! Can't you guys just accept that they both have great games and it is down to personal preferance! It is attitudes like this that made Playstation so big!!! And hell at the moment although I own a Cube I don't feel any is better than Dreamcast as that has loads of GREAT games people should expieriance so stop bickering!!!

there both pretty good in my oppinion, theres some gr8 games coming out for both consoles, i feel that X-box is aimed mostly for Pc users and older ppl (i.e older teenagers/adults). Gamecube is also gr8 but the games seem to be for younger children, e.g zelda, with the exception of resident evil :D, god i love that game. I already own a Gc, so i might get an X-box cuz its the major emulation console and i love emulation :), i aint too keen on the games tho for X-box tho.

I'm with you on that one. I only bought my PS2 because I got it for £100, and I'll do the same if I can get a very cheap X-Box. Especially now I've seen Grand Prix 4 on the 'Box.. :P

And once again, I blame Sega. Why can't they just pick a console to release all of their masterpieces on!?

I can't help but notice that everytime I go to frys electronics, the line behind the gamecube is always the shortest, and its full of little kids (in fact, I've yet to see an older person playing), and frys even had the courtesy to give it a 42" HDTV for em to play on.

But hell I am no longer a console person, so I wouldn't know which is best.

yea i understand but its damn annoying when ppl diss DC when they havent even played one. Just cuz its older than ps2 doesnt mean the graphics are worse (look at shenmue, or compare unreal to the ps2 version, or crazy taxi to the ps2 version, or bleem GT2 compared to playing it on Ps2, Dc comes out on top) OK OK im not dissin ps2, its a gr8 console but its damn annoying when some1 puts your fave console down.

yep every1s entitled into their oppinion, ps2 will prob be my next fave system cuz of the gr8 games for it:) should really get one soon cuz i already got DDR max and FF10 i jus aint got a ps2 LOL. Gamecube looks extremly promising with resident evil 0 (might get the demo soon) but other than that i aint too keen

Well, I for sure love the Gamecube. And the XBOX is just a foothold for Microsoft to get into the home entertainment market, they couldn't care if it flopped, made squat and was a bit (a lot?) ugly. It's purely a strategic move so I doubt Microsoft will support the XBOX as long as say Sony will support the PS2 and Nintendo the Gamecube.

Nintendo have said 8 years for the Gamecube,

if you think back to the NES compare Super Mario with Super Mario 3, there should be some good stuff in the future of the cube all things being equal :D

I'm 35 and play Gamecube games every day. Who says theyre for kids? I've been playing Nintendo since 1985 and I've played plenty of other consoles too ... and I guess I just plain enjoy what Nintendo does with their own (1st party) games. I don't care if there's blood and gore in a game .... to me, that's the real kid stuff. It's for pimply runts who haven't seen enough R movies yet or gotten any mud for their turtle.

Actualy the baggy pants are always behind the PS2, never realy noticed who plays the xbox, as its farthest to the left and covered by the PS2 line (GC is closest when you walk in), maybe I would notice if I actualy went to play them for once.

Quite honestly though, console games are too "slow" for my taste, I've been spoiled by the flexability of a keyboard+mouse. And if you don't have violence, then the game is just more like a puzzle you have to solve for 33 hours, unless its an RPG. (picture watching the matrix if they had no fighting, how boring would that be?).

It adds a certain "touch" to the game. Take a game like counterstrike for example, (no console game compares to it, hell just name one thats been played on a regular basis by millions of people for years in a row). Say you see somebody who thinks hes cool by skylining on a tower and shooting people below. If the game was designed by nintendo, you would throw something mundane like a fireball at him that leaves no scorch mark and he just dissapears outa nowhere. But I prefer the non N way; you fire a 50 caliber round at his head, blood flies, then he falls about 50 feet and lands on his back :D

Hell, maybe the army realy did turn me into a bloodthirsty war mongering killing machine like I heard some weed smoking hippie say once. But you know what? its fun being that way :devil:

I hear what youre saying, but as for console games that have been played by millions of people for years in a row, I think any Mario, Donkey Kong, Final Fantasy, Zelda, Megaman, FZero, or any other established game series would qualify. And I don't mean each game sequentially as the series moves along ... I've been playing Super Mario Bros. (the original) for 17 years and still load it up from time to time.

You boys are missing the point. I'm talking about judging the quality of the game solely on the violence content, kinda like rating R movies on the number of tittie flashes. Having graduated form HS a long time ago, I say if you wanna see naked chicks go get some friggin hardcore videos and be done with it. If you wanna shoot guns, go buy a Glock. I've got three.

Now, with that said I do play FPS on the PC and I agree with Alpha Wolf that a good FPS is a blast. But all I was trying to point out is that there is something special about most Nintendo 1st party and 2nd party (Rare) games that most other developer's seem to lack. You either appreciate it and like it, or you don't. Most of the folks here, this being a primarily Nintendo emu board, know what I'm talking about. That certain feel was there in the first games on NES and its still there on Gamecube releases today. So, I've got a gamecube.

but, I'm also a proud owner of a GeF4 Ti4400, so I don't feel a need for an Xbox.

I tried these 3 consoles, and (maybe because i'm a big nintendo fan) I liked a bit more the GCN, it has a really cheap price and very nice games. Anyway i think i'll wait for Mario Sunshine to be released to get this console (so on october-november i think), I bought myself a Dreamcast instead 1 month ago (very cheap price 80€) and actually i'm having a lot of fun with it, it is a great unlucky console!!


P.S. I played Halo on the Xbox and it wasn't that hard because the joypad is enuff good to play fps, and the game is great. But it's the only game i like from this console.

Actually I think he's got a good point, Harteex. Having a powerful computer you can run games as nice/smooth as the Xbox. ANd, in fact, a large percentage of the games for xbox are available for PC or are going to be...now, i should be mentioning examples, but I can't remember many atm...Halo, Doom3, Spiderman are the ones popping up in my mind right now, but I know there are more...

With Nintendo however, this isn't the case...Ever seen Mario on PC? (without emus..doh)...metroid? waverace? Eternal Darkness? SSBM? luigi's mansion? and the list goes on...Nintendo has way more exclusives than the xbox as far as i can see, and they also make great games...

I guess you see which console I like most, but I think Xbox is a nice console too...but the games for it just isn't as good as for the GC. I'd much rather get a PS2 than a Xbox, anytime...
Oh, and could someone please list some Xbox exclusives? Curious to know how many there really is...(I already know DOA3)

Thats one of the main reasons I hate consoles. You see a system with a bunch of good games, buy it, then all of a sudden one game that you realy want is exclusive to another system, so you have to go out and buy new hardware...gay. PC seems to have sorta removed that limitation. Reason being is because all of the better console games end up coming out for PC, and in many cases, the better console games are only a stripped down version of its PC counterpart.

Xbox tends to be my favored console for the sole reason that because of its lack of 100% proprietary hardware, and similarity to a PC, it kinda lowers the compatibility barrier between the console/PC environment. (from a neutral standpoint though, the PS2 is quite honestly the best one to own IMO)

PCs are constantly finding new conveniences, better reliability, and ease of use, sooner or later there will be a one platform to fit all. (We're only in the developmental era, its just not here yet.) I don't know about the rest of you, but I don't like paying more for software just because the "owner" of the platform wants to charge licensing fees. You save more in the long run by paying more up front for the hardware, some people just can't grasp that.

Nah its definatly a modified Geforce 3, it doesnt matter any ways cuz theres hardly any difference in the geforce 2/3/4 apart from the speed difference & RAM and geforce 4 includes a few more features. Sorry to disagree with u a lot 64ultramaniac but this time i belive im right

Yeah mate, I agree with all the points u got above, PS2 has more good games, even because it is on the scene since 2 years! :cool: Xbox has too many PC like games.. I love the GCN because it has its own games (Nintendo mostly) that noone can have (and that i love ofcourse) so that's why i'll get it. But now I feel good with my lil DC, i'm trying to get the emulators working and other nice stuff, and it's very funny to work on it!

I hope that Sega will release a DC II though.. one day maybe.. who knows.. *dreaming* :)

GF3 and 4 are about the same feature wise, only 4 has a lot better quality, faster, and cheaper to build components (processor, memory, etc). GF2 lacks several features which all next generation games (namely doom3 and UT2) will use.

The GPU in an xbox is neither a GF3 nor a GF4, those are just names of chipsets for PC products, rather instead its a "custom chipset". But so far as speed, features, and the way it operates, etc, it most closesly resembles a GF4 ti 4600, only with 64mb of vram.

Well, Xbox2 (which they are going to call something else as far as I've heard) is supposed to be some multimedia center which plays all sorts of media and has inet browser etc...MS is gonna try to take over the home market entirely, just wait and see...(and hopefully they won't make it)

As for PS3, Sony said that they are going to make PS3 a thousand times faster than PS2...so, Moore's law is too slow for them. Some ppl say that they are looking into using many PS3's connected together to make them more powerful...
The way they are going to do that is that you lend your PS3's power to other people playing on the inet while you don't use it, and then you borrow power from other PS3's idling when you play...sounds crazy to me, especially since not so many people have broadband...anyone heard something other than this about PS3?

Gorxon: I think that's basically it. Sony aren't saying much more because they are just trying to drive the hype. They are just shouting out numbers like '1000 times better' without actually giving any details (except for that it will rely on a network, and it takes about 2 mins of thought to realise that it will never work out).

a) break moores law

Because of bad strategic choices (marketting, hardware) and the financial situation of Sega at the time they released it.

The dual sh2 had to be coded in asm (like any older console). Most game coders didn't know how to do that correctly(apart from sega's, who had some experience because some Sega's arcade machine had dual proc setup).

The psx came out with a pc sdk, and had a dedicated C compiler. --> much easier to code.

I read somewhere (can't remember where, so don't ask), that the PS2 is kinda a prototype of the PS3. Apparently the PS3 will take the `casual gamer` to another level, with the usual DVD and other non-games-related features. Which sucks. IMO. :P

I don`t think so. Basically, even the current consoles can play DVD`s at an acceptable quality. They already have support for Dolby 5.1 sound, and they have USB peripherials. So all they gotta do is improve the DVD playback, and add a broadband functionality (which the X-Box and the PS2 both already have), and you get an ultimate entertainment center.

one thing is being a fanboy.. it's quite another to look for game quality and stick to it.. hardware shmardware.. i still own my NES and play it now and then.. ice-climber is a unique game not ever reproduced since those days.. and so are many more games..

i bought a ps2 about 2 months after it came out.. i sold it 3 months after i bought it.. i allready own a dvd player.. and the games bored me.. other than less than a handfull of the ones out give me pleasure playing..

same with the x-box.. since i sold it though.. it has a game or two that i could consider playing.. but it's not drawing my attention since i've tried them at stores and at first impression.. well.. me no like :)..

the GC.. the litle bro of this generation of consoles.. it's tiny and cute.. most games look cute and so on.. sure you might not like the cuteness the childishness of some games.. but.. all i'm gonna say is that most of these games are good.. just look at the mario games in generall.. from the start.. they've been winners.. and the hype about them has never been overly exessive from the company..

PC games come and go.. make huge hype.. then don't deliver.. PC games are the worst.. too much hype.. and too few of them are really good/worth it.. some are really good.. but most of them are just eyecandy.. with the same old same old.. copies of past success.. how many Quake games are there.. how many reutnr to castle wolfenstine.. how many D2lod games?.. improved grfx.. same damn game.. some have even the same textures.. same stories.. it's sad.. i play them.. but only to waste time.. it's not in anyway an experiance that i remember later and think about.. the way i can remeber and go nutz wanting to hear the music again from the first time i got to Brinstar in SuperMetroid on my Snes a bunch of years ago.. you think that is nostalgia.. but i can still get that feeling from playing GC games.. i can from a few PC games too.. like C&C.. then after all the sequels.. it gets boring.. and i don't even feel like thinking about later C&C games other than perhaps the first redalert.. let's face it.. the PC is allways the same.. soon something new will come.. and everyone will release the same thing over and over and over..


in a good console.. you get games that are original.. something diferent to play.. and i mean.. how more original do you get than Luigi's mansion? :p .. i laughd so hard playing that game.. it wasn't the best game i've played by far.. but it was original.. and new.. and it got me out of the ratrace :).. wich i kinda like.. that is just one example of many.. try finding something original with x-box or ps2 games.. you won't find much.. hense my selling both consoles coz they where collecting dust :p..
