Working on the stake texture I have a bit of a problem. However I look at the original texture, it looks like bark to me...and the problem is I would think all the bark would have been stripped off a long time ago due to erosion caused by the sand. Thinking that I'm still not sure what to do with it. Here is a bark version of the stake...Note it needs to be darkened up just a little.

Once again I used a 1/4th size version to avoid aliasing problems that occur at higher resolutions for this texture.

@Chieftain At this point I agree with DD, but only for 1 reason, we don't have enough active development to have a need to have the project done elsewhere. Plus this allows the public to see just how much is being done. If we did get to a point where we were going through more than say 2 pages a day, regularly, then I would say yes, but I have a suggestion for it all.
Google-Wave-logo.jpg

I only just today finally got my invite to join and I'm looking forward to actually using it! Watch this short video that shows off some of the usefulness of Google Wave. If anyone on the project would like to get an invite, talk to me on my MSN (see sig)

@DD Where can I find windows builds of the 1964 emu? I'm still using version 0.9.9.....

Chaos, I think "2 pages per day" is an unrealistic and irrelevant goal, since pages do not equal progress per-se (especially when pages are filled with off-topic discussion/questions). But I do see your point.

Death--droid, I really wish you would be a little more open-minded. First, I didn't say we HAD to use Google Groups. I just suggested it because I've used it and personally have never had problems with it, doing exactly the same sort of collaborative stuff we do here. And as far as keeping everything in one topic, I don't see how you can stand having so many different things happening all at once here. In fact, so much happens that I've seen several questions go unanswered/ignored because the only person who can answer them (typically you--no offense) overlooked them in all the other posts. Besides, my point in making the suggestion was to LIGHTEN your burden--I was going to help you maintain everything... the idea was to make this less work for you.

Anyway, it's the group's decision to make. I'll be around, and my offer will stand until I say otherwise.

Where on earth is Zeckron!!!

@Chieftain459 I understand your worries all too much, but I just want to make note of 1 thing.

death--droid has been managing this project since September 15th, 2008 (based on that was the date of the 1st post in this thread)
Some minor errors in, what is basically community service for over a year should be more than acceptable, infact it would be amazing if he didn't have any!

I also want to say that your post yesterday actually helped a lot, it gave me some more motivation to get working on the project again! ^_^

EDIT:
Chief are you up to doing another batch of ~30 all new symbols? In the Haunted Wasteland where you meet ghost, on top of the stone structure there is a stone tablet with writing

@Chieftain459 suppose we could start up a forum just for the project. But I would want it hosted on a hosting service like x10hosting not ipbfree.
@Choaszerox nice work on the textures, I'll add them to the pack now. And i have no idea what happened to Zeckron.

@death-droid: I could actually create a quick, nice and simple forum if you'd like? It would most likely be on x10hosting...

Back from the holidays... and after reading through the last several pages of posts, I really think I need to say a few things:

1) I need to take back something I mentioned in one of my last posts--I said at the time that progress had slowed back to a normal pace. It appears this isn't the case, and I realize that I myself am partially to blame for that. Progress, as it were, seems to have halted.

2) Instead, while our effort HAD been dedicated to pushing barriers and limits, and getting things done, it looks like we're all in a mood to sit around and talk/discuss/argue about trivial things--things that can be worried about later. I don't suppose many people who are consistent contributors (chaos, stef, etc.) remember when mode7 was in-charge, but his philosophy was to knock out as much as possible, then refine later. I preferred this approach--it left each contributor under less pressure and less stress, more free to just do the work, and then refine the whole thing after others had had a chance to experience the whole area (not just screenshots).

3) Distractions have become abundant. I'm not sure why--maybe the massive surge in contributions and progress garnered a lot of attention from others, or maybe everyone thought now was the best time to ask their pent-up questions, since there was plenty of activity on the thread... but I have to admit, there is a TON of distracting banter about technical issues that could be answered elsewhere--especially the stuff that has NOTHING to do with the retexture project. I also have noticed a number of relatively dumb questions, or questions that can be answered by simply doing some independent research, without troubling others with stupid questions. That said, I really wish/recommend that we separate ourselves from that sort of attention for the time being.

With these thoughts in mind, I'd like to bring up an old topic--one that I know some people opposed in the past, but that I think is still a viable option:
Create a stand-alone area where those of us who regularly work on this project can focus on the job itself--I don't mean another thread, or forum, or anything of the sort. I know that Google offers something I think would be great for our collaborative effort--Google Groups would allow us to continue our discussions in a similar fashion to what we have here, in addition to us maintaining a knowledge base, uploading files within the group, and other features I think would be very useful.

In addition, we can set our own discussions about the project separate from what goes on here... so we can use this thread to inform the public of new releases/updates, and handle questions and whatnot in this forum.

I know death--droid was against a similar idea when it was brought up a few months ago (unless I'm mistaken, sorry if that's the case). In either case, I'd like to propose that I set up and maintain something along these lines (we can, of course, discuss and make a decision), and work with death--droid to oversee things between the two locations. I say this because I think this is something I can better handle with my current workload. And, when I finish with the Water Temple (probably early 2010), I'll bow-out of the actual retexturing until I can find a better time to get involved directly with the art again.

OK, so my post ran a little long. Sorry for the extra reading, but I did need to get that all off my chest. Any thoughts?

Chieftain you have some godd points there.

People: don"t bother asking the community for every single texture here. A normal area has somewhat about 250 textures. it will take for ages. plus if you ask 5 people you get 5 opinons.
Just trust yourself and try to do the area alone. not everything will look perfect. So what? you can always come back later. Working like this will keep your motivation up.

Trust me!!

On the platform:
N64redux was created for this reason, why not using it.\? You can write the webmaster to unlock the project page for you. It"s ok with me.

@chaos--stef is correct. You can find the OOT Hylian font somewhere online, those characters are in that font set (not sure which letters).

As for death--droid managing the project, yes. He started this thread on September 15 2008. December 21 of that year, he said this:

I'm dropping this project.
So here is all the files i have got excluding some peoples work like mode7's

http://www.mediafire.com/?nmngyjwnjc5

Mode7 took over from there, until he left in July, 2009 for Africa for 6 months. Then, death--droid returned to oversee things until Mode's return.

Just setting the record straight, giving Mode credit where it is due.

Anyway...
@Mode, I'll take you up on the N64Redux thing. I'll shoot the webmaster an email later.

I've taken a very close look at the OoT Hylian fonts out there and I've concluded, however very similar they are to it, the characters in the texture in question are not the same as the font.

Here's what I'm working on, I made it completely from scratch using the original as kind of a stencil. Thoughts? Remember it's colorized in-game

http://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff70/num1narutofan/LETTERScopy.png

EDIT: looking at it again the last character looks like a Natzi symbol, I need to change the design of that 1 at the very least!

Hey guys, I've been working on links textures, but some don't seem to work. I even searched the comp to make sure there was no doubles of links textures in the hi res pack... There was links top part of gloves in the graveyard section and another of links textures (I think it's the red belt texture...) somewhere else, kakoriko I think... but I don't remember exactly.

It seems you guys haven't replaced these textures either, are they just unable to be edited or something? Just curious...

Also here is a wip of the textures for link so far... need to work on bunch of stuff still and need to find some textures.

http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c356/CoolGuitar/collarlink.jpg

and for comparison... =p

I'm not sure what the problem is AaronLite, but I know all, or most all Adult Link's textures have been done, very nicely, by Zeckron. It should be in the latest pack....If it's not DD, why isn't it...

I would put your work on hold right now, because if DD don't prefer it to Zeckron's work, what your working on is pointless I'm sorry to say

EDIT:Here's link's textures from the v3 pack

@AaranLite awesome work there, hope you release it all.
@Choaszerox I personally love AaronLite's work since it is very high quality but yet remains quite true to the original textures, it would be awesome if he releases the textures he has made. Just because the textures are done it doesn't mean someone cannot make better versions of them.

EDIT: I'm not saying Zeckron's work is bad at all, its just AaranLite's work looks better and more true to the original.

Hey guys, before the next release you might want to run everything through optipng or pngcrush. It really helps get everything much smaller without any reduction in quality, I bet it would reduce the total size of this pack by a ton.

@death-droid: Found a few more things that were either overlooked or forgotten...

Please take a look at the Zelda Main Menu in the game and you'll see that these text textures are missing:

"This is an empty file."
"Are you sure?"
"File erased."
"Copy to which file?"
"File copied."

Hope this helps!
