Basically, an alpha channel is used to determine what part of the image file can be seen in-game... so what death--droid is saying is that the window file has an alpha channel with it that SHOULD make the white part invisible... but it doesn't. So it's a conundrum.

To add to the problem, the butterflies are doing the same thing... weird.
What about just making the pixels transparent as opposed to using an alpha channel? I know it can't be that simple...I must be missing something

P.S. Maybe it's an issue with the video plugin(s)?

It's neither an issue with the video plugin, nor is it any more complicated than you said. Quite simply, that wasn't an option when the original textures were made--alpha channels were THE method for determining transparency (btw, alpha channels are the black-and-white PNGs you see in the png_by_rgb folder).

So yes, making the pixels transparent is an easy fix we can apply to these situations NOW, however it wasn't the method that was used back then (which was mostly what we were referring to).

Edit--OK, so it may be an issue with the plugin that isn't loading the alpha. I must have misunderstood that the first time around.

Sorry for the wait, I forgot there were some ice textures in Zora's Fountain (adult Link), so I had to get those taken care of. But, without further ado, here's Zora's Fountain Beta 1 (I figure this will take a couple of betas to work out).

First, screenshots (and I think Zeckron will get a kick out of the first one):

I'm uploading the pack now, will update when it's done.

Edit--it's done. Link follows:

Very nice work! After looking a cupple of times I noticed...

There are rupees down there?
You have the giant wallet and all hearts, can u share you save game?
Not really high enough resolution too see too much detail, can't wait for your release to see everything properly!

See above for download link.

Thank God someone said something positive... I'm so over this area it's not even funny. I can't describe it, but this little area was WAY more frustrating than anything else I've ever done!

Yeah, there's rupees down there--there's a piece of heart at the very bottom, too.

Here's that save file... honestly, I have no clue how to correctly upload this file, what format it's supposed to be in and whatnot... but anyway, this is the .sra file out of my "save" folder in 1964:

@Chieftain - You're damn straight I got kick out of the first one :) Love it!!! For reals, very very nice sir! All of them look top notch. And yeah, I can imagine you're so glad this area is over with. Very challenging, lots to do, but only a small area of the whole game. This is one of those areas in which you do TONS OF WORK, but only a small percentage of game play is held within the area. This is the type of area that makes un-sung heros. And you my sir, are due some frickin songs...

@Chaoszerox - Your awesome work continues! You're still on fire! I can imagine the snake eyes being very difficult and challenging. After all, eyes are the most expressive part of any creature, and thus are the most frustrating. My personal vote is for no pupil, more drop shadow, and angled edges.

Here is version 1 of the silver gauntlets. It's very true to the original, with no extra mumbo-jumbo added. I've been very tempted to add spikes, more scratches, knots, pits, etc but ultimately that seems to detract from the fact that these are magical gauntlets that should be clean and shiny. At least, that's my thought. Opinions on direction please!

Redux: http://i977.photobucket.com/albums/ae258/zeckron00001/SilverGuantlets2.jpg

EDIT: Chieftain, after I finish the guantlets I'm back to dungeon textures. Started dumping pics from the fire temple last night. I'm really looking forward to this one, b/c it will entail doing lots of them from scratch. Those are the most difficult of any textures, but also the most rewarding.

@Zeckron--Thanks for the compliments! I kinda felt bad busting up your awesome work on those pillars... but the most frustrating thing was getting it to mirror without looking too.... mirrored. Pain in the ass.

Gauntlets look great, at least as far as direction is concerned--now they just need some polish--that little bit of finesse and sheen that makes metal pop--I know Lewa knows all about that.

Fire Temple! Awesome--I know you'll do some good in there! Personally, I'm looking forward to getting back to dungeons myself--Water Temple, here I come.

@Chaos--Just so you know, I haven't forgotten about those symbols for the Spirit Temple--I'll get those knocked out tomorrow first thing. Out of curiosity, do you want me to go ahead and just make the texture? If so, the dump would be much appreciated... actually, I'd like the dump regardless, so I can trace those symbols.

For now, I'm off to bed.

Awesome work chieftain on the Zora Fountain!

Here's the dump you requested. Good luck =) You can do the texture if you want, but try to make it at least 16x I also included 2 other textures that use the same (I believe) symbols. You don't have to do all the textures, all I really need is the symbols and that enough, but if you want to take an extra step, fine by me! ;)

Also great work on the Gauntlets Zeckron!

I got the font done... download here:
http://www.mediafire.com/file/y1wfm0iofwz/SpiritSymbols.ttf

Here's how it works:
For the text in that big block, type the following:
QWERTYU
ASDFGHJK
ZXCVBNM,. (the last bit is comma, period)

For the jewelry items, the single letter is 6.
The texture with five letters is 12345. Note that the letters are already angled the way they were in the original texture (no rotation necessary).

Let me know if something doesn't work out.

@Zeckron the gauntlets are looking good,
@Chaoszerox good work on the wooden beam.

Keep up the good work everyone :)

Power Gauntlets BETA v1.1

How about this?

http://i977.photobucket.com/albums/ae258/zeckron00001/SilverGuantlets3.jpg

http://i977.photobucket.com/albums/ae258/zeckron00001/GoldGauntlets1.jpg

Took Chieftain's suggestion and ramped up the gradients by like 400%. It works well in-game. On closeup shots, you can still barely see the tiny little scratches on the plate metal. On normal distance shots, it has a nice grainy shine to it.

If it passes, then here are the files:http://www.mediafire.com/file/mmnmzq02xmi/Silver - Gold Gauntlets.zip

Strange enough, the gold and silver use the same files. So that was neat.

@Chieftain - custom fonts?! Dang you just don't know how to take it easy do you :) Awesome work sir!

@Zeckron--Those look awesome! I have to wonder, though... can the ruby in the middle be retextured? Or is it a solid color job that doesn't have an associated texture?

Eh, the font just kinda got thrown together--wasn't that big of a deal, maybe 30 minutes.

Oh how I wish. It's one of those solid color super shiny reflective polygon thingies. I have no idea the technical term for it, but i remember back in the day on the N64, whatever the hell the effect was called, it was totally freaking awesome. Any game that used it, i thought was cool.

That's what I was afraid of...oh well, not a big deal--probably wouldn't even be noticeable if it wasn't for the close-up shot of the gauntlet.

Freaking awesome job! I'll get started on the textures ASAP
What do you use to make fonts??

EDIT:everything is fantastic but the K, the last symbol on the 2nd row doesn't show up =/

Much better! By same files do you mean the texture has no saturation and the game colorizes it? I was going to suggest to make the gradients/color more like silver and gold, but if the game does it then I guess there's no getting around it =/ What about the red part behind the metal parts?

Fixed the K. New download is ready, but you'll have to reinstall the font. Sorry about that--apparently, I forgot to load the K the first time around.

Download link:
http://www.mediafire.com/file/n3cvrnw4zdx/SpiritSymbols.ttf

I made the font by first opening the texture dumps in Adobe Illustrator, and tracing the characters with the pen tool. Then I adjusted the shapes to a point I was happy with, and saved the individual characters. From there, I started a new font in High-Logic FontCreator 6.0. For each character in the font set, I loaded one of the individual files from Illustrator, then saved the whole shebang as a .ttf file, and Bob's your uncle.

I just did some research and according to wikipedia, Soapstone (aka steatite or soaprock) is probably the most common medium for carving throughout history. I'm looking for a good Soapstone base texture right now
