What's new
  • Most issues reported these days stem from users not enabling their emulators to use the required amount of RAM.
We also tend not to use the search feature but post our issues within the texture pack release page.
Failure to load a texture pack should not be posted in the release thread unless you have already patched the emulator.

If you don't have the resources to use Large/HD texture packs please do not attempt to do so.
Users should have a minimum amount of System RAM not less then 4GB's.
If you have less then 4GB's of RAM do not post about how your emulator crashes,
RAM is dirt cheap so invest some money into your PC.

I would like to say thanks to squall_leonhart

Kman, Please Read This!

well, i havent been on emutalk in months for some reason, so i guess i have alot to catch up on. i downloaded the new packs awhile ago but just never commented on them, so um, here's my comment i guess. As i expected, the pack was awesome, too bad only kokiri forest and deku tree are redone so far though. the only flaws i noticed were with some of the textures djipi made. mostly just that deku nut which i read someone fixed a few pages ago, and the fence in kokiri forest. but other than that it was perfect and just beautiful. You really should be geting paid for doing something like this KMan. Also Kman, im not sure if i should have sent this in a pm, but i was talking to jabo and smiff on the pj64 members forum about getting your textures to work with jabo's 1.7 plugin that supports high res textures. well, jabo's plugin's texures arent the same as the ones used with the rice plugin, so they cant be used with jabo's plugin. so, alot of texure artists that are pj64 members with access to the betas are making their texture packs for jabo's new plugin also. and since rice's plugin is dead and jabo's plugin now supports hi res textures and is overall just plain better than rice's(that's my personal opinion), it's pretty obvious that when 1.7 becomes public, mostly everyone is going to be using jabo's plugin instead of rice's. and when that happens, everyone is going to want texture support for jabo's plugin. so what im saying is that you should become a pj64 member and start making your textures for jabo's plugin also. it was either smiff or jabo(i cant remember, that conversation was like a month ago) that told me that they will give you a pj64 membership for free since your a texture artist, so you dont have to pay for a membership like most do. so, what do you say? PLEASE do this, i hate using rice's plugin with it's lack of framebuffer emulation, im begging you PLEASE! and im sure other people would like you to do this too. i cant be the only one. just contact smiff or zilmar and they'll hook you up.

Does that generous offer extend to Djipi and I with our texture packs. LOL I would be interested in checking out this new plugin with high res textures, but I refuse to pay to support emulator production, no-one should make any money from emulation, I would easily turn down money for the work I do on a point of principle.

As you havnt been around for a while, Djipi and I worked on the Cel Shaded style Ocarina of Time pack, and we are currently working on a cel-shaded style pack for Majora's Mask, I also worked with Kman and Federelli on their "true to the original" re-texture pack.

lol, i just posted about this in your thread. yeah, im pretty sure you can be a member for free since your a good texture artist, just pm smiff or zilmar about it and im sure they will hook you up. i've seen djipi in the members forum so i know he's already a member, though i dont know why he wouldnt tell you about that. i think ill just ask smiff about this in the members forum right now, so ill let you know what he says. ok?

EDIT: Wait, you made those textures for the fishing pond?! i saw those a long time ago and thought they were good. What the hell man, how come they aren't included in the pack? i almost forgot about those since they weren't in the pack.

we've been so focused on the pack for rice's plugin, i will thinbk it over, and check it out with those people you mentioned, it will all depend on how you go about macking the textures work with this new plugin.

well, the textures themselves are pretty much the same between plugins i think, but the naming is done differently. so you can still use the same high res textures, you just need to rename them to work with jabo's plugin. jabo actually made this neat little tool to convert rice's textures to jabo's textures, but it doesnt work 100%. it will only convert like 60% or something. i dont know if he plans on trying to improve it, but as of right now, you could have him convert as many textures as he can, and then will have to do the rest of the renaming by yourself from there. and then when you convert all you have made so far, then you can start making the textures for jabo's as they are made. so that what you would need to do to start making textures for jabo's. making texures for jabo's is basically the same as doing it for rice's, you first dump the texures then retexture them and name them with the correct name. oh yeah, and for that tool, you will need a set of dumped textures from rice's plugin and jabo's, and the retexture pack for rice's plugin. so, that basically how it will work. if you want, i can try to help with renaming texutures that have already been made for rice's plugin. all you need to do is get the right dumped textures from jabo's plugin and rename the new textures.

Hey legend of zelda, can you or someone tied with the Jabo people get in contact with me on AIM? My screen name is Chocobo578. My two reasons for it are 1) If jabo's is the future then I have to convert all my Wave Race work 2) I'm trying to build a community for the hi-res texture artists and this changes a lot of the landscape.

The Dave, if you're interested in being invited as a pj64 member, you should probably talk to jabo yourself. And um, just to clarify something, you said something about the jabo people. jabo is one person. he is the guy in charge of doing all the plugins for pj64. anywho, im not really affiliated with jabo in any way except that im a pj64 member. i'm not in charge of anything at all. all i can really do is ask that you be invited to be a pj64 member and the decision is up to the pj64 team. so, i'd say it's best if you talk to him yourself so you can say what you want to say instead of me just saying to him "yo, i think the dave is super duper awesome and he should be invited to be a member" or whatever. he has an emutalk account which is just named jabo, so you should pm him about all this. or smiff. either one. or you could do things the way a normal person does it and donate $20 or more to pj64.

It may also involve different values that need to be changed. #AB261EF would be something different. That's where the extra time would be involved with changing them.

It doesnt take as long as you think...more like a couple days using a simple tool to convert 596 textures. Atleast thats what I think it took for my mariokart pack. Also the dump method has less duplicates wich is great. Im not so sure its as simple for all games, but this is to be seen. I never really planned on being this open about my beta testing with this...and for that matter anyone planing on being less than productive with this should just wait for the official release. Im not trying to be specific or rude for that matter just my thoughts.

i think i have an idea! maybe...

if its just a renaming pb it can be resolved with renameIt! ? like when you dont have the good card name?
no, you couldnt use a simple renaming tool to convert rice's textures to jabo's. it would have to be done by hand or a special program would have to be made. this is because the naming is done completely different. rice's textures have names like THE LEGEND OF ZELDA#7EB432A8#0#2_rgb and such and jabo's textures have names like 1A29D263791EC2FBAA188E0936925BD6. they are completely different. i think i have an idea of how a conversion program might work, but since i can't program i cant try and make it. basically this is how it would work. ok, i'm not too sure about this but the dumped textures from rice's plugin and jabo's should be the exactly the same right? i mean the images themselves, not the names. if that's right then you could have a set of dumped textures from rice's and jabo's plugins and a texture pack for rice's plugin and then the program could try to find exact image matches for textures dumped from the different plugins. like, the program would take one texture from rice's dumped textures and try to find an exact match from the textures dumped from jabo's plugin. then, it records all the exact matches. and finally, it goes into the texture pack and grabs one of the texture names and goes back to that list of exact matches and sees if there is an exact match for that texture name and if so, it changes that texture to the jabo's texture name. and then it keeps doing that for the rest of the textures in the pack. well, i hope that made sense and that maybe if this could work that somebody that can program could make it or find a way to make a proper conversion program. wow, that was a long post.

K-Man, what things HAVEN'T you done? We can't really contribute properly by doing stuff that's already been done.

Unless you can contribute work at my level, I'd only end up redo-ing it later.

Way to encourage other people from retexturing. You're good, I'll give you that, but you are extremely condesending to everybody else who does work here. that includes Djipi and Mdtauk. In my opinion, their pack is better than yours.

well KMan is a professional 3d Texture artist, so its upto him how he wants to procede with his pak, I admire him taking on such a huge task alone.
