Games that are WAY better emulated

Fun Game. Try to list no more than five games games that are much more enjoyable emulated than on the N64 console. When I mean way better, I mean WAY better. Of course any game that is 100% emulated can be consider better (improved graphics, can save anywhere.) But I want those that are really significant. If you can say why. There's only one rule: It's all up to your personal opinion and experience. ( Oh, and you don't have to have owned or played it on the console.)

Now that that point has been beat upside your head. Here's mine.

Mace- The Dark Ages

N64: Average fighting game that seriously sacrificed frame rate for eye candy. While it has it's cult following, I thought it was too lethargic for my taste.

Emu: Merely crank the counter facter up by one and it feels like a whole new game. The combos feel like combos and all that crap in the background starts to matter more. Also some of the characters (particularly those with long weapons) don't feel as useless anymore.

Improvement: C- to B

Turok 2- Seeds of evil

N64: Great game. One of the best on the system. However, it had two fundamental flaws: the lack of save locations and a laglike framerate at some of its most intense scenes.

Emu: Yes, I know I said saving anywhere is pretty much a universal improvement for all emulated N64 games. But this one in particular just cries for it. Anyone thats played it knows what I'm talking about. Unfortunately, you lose the map functionality and I refuse to bump down the graphics for a smoother playing experience.

Improvement: To hell with the map. After I leave level one, I leave those little yellow diamonds laying around to guide me and just have no need for a map. A- to A+

Knife Edge-Nose Gunner

Improvement: Can play with the mouse. D- to C

Sorry for the long post. Just thought I'd contribute to this board for a change. Also, wanted to break up the monotony of people asking for help only to be harrassed for their system specs, and then immediately told to use the search feature. :saint:

Hey thanks Lachp30

Amazingly I never thought of that. Mario 64 should still give you top speed at any resolution. So might as well crank that puppy up. Ah! Now to test it

What can I say I'm a big ol' bucket of love.

:satisfied

But seriously, thanks!!!

For a second, I thought my post was stupid. ( Usual result of boredom.) Yet it's actually useful, for me at least. Sin & Punishment with the mouse!

:emutalk:

I must turn my brain off when I play, why didn't I try that!

But here's a great one that I can't believe that I forgot

Forsaken 64

N64: Great game no matter how you look at it. Nice shiny graphics. Good clone of Descent. Zero competition on the system period! You want a Descent clone this is your ONLY choice! Yet, the whole thing is ruined by a thumb snapping, carpal tunnel enducing control scheme. The N64 controller just isn't suitable for perfect play.

Emulated: Use a cheap flight stick with a hat switch + your keyboard, and everything changes. Hands down, the N64 title that benefits the most from emulation. Bad points=> It's a PC title, and an inexpensive one at that. However, I don't think the PC version has bots (not sure at least. And while this sounds bad, roms=free.

Improvement: C+ to A- ( Yes that much)

both of the zeldas, mainly because of the ability to state save :)

agreed here, zeldas are the best games on n64 and any mistakes in emulation will probably be noticed by someone.

My bad cool

Sorry cool, I knew you said. Didn't mean to take your props away. And you are most definately correct, it DOES make a huge difference.

At your service, dood!
all n64 games that work great are better emulated :D

reason: Higher Resolution with Quincunx Anti-Aliasing, *drool*

you can save whenever you want.. as some have mentioned.

third reason: i don't need my n64 (my brother in law has mine at the moment, grr, gotta get that back some day!)

well, i do love using my real n64, especially when i've got 45 games on it,

Duke Zero Hour. Or any FPS-type game (I know, Duke isn't really first person, but still...) because you can play with mouse-look!

Actually, I'm not sure Duke ZH is a better game on PC, because it's actually too easy when you aren't handicapped by second-rate controls. (Have you heard that the folks porting Halo from X-Box to PC are having to up the difficulty because it's too easy when you have a mouse and can aim accurately?)

Ok, I´m new to this scene - mac user still waiting for either mupen or sixtyforce to mature to a stage where something is fully playable with sound at full speed.

Anyway, my question is: does N64 emulation allow you to play and finish titles? Like, has anyone actually started a title (such as Zelda:OOT) from the beginning on their puter and finished it? Or are there too many little bugs (even in the likes of PJ64)??

I couldn't provide a list, but numerous games can be played to completion. Just about anything listed as "Compatible" in the GUI I believe, as well as many others with minor bugs. :)

in one word: yes

but there might be some gfx problems on many games stated as playable, as for zelda oot, I found some time and finished it myself awhile ago

The Great One
I agree that the entire Turok series of gaems are better emulated, except the fact that I cannot use the map in the second one, or I get a microcode error. Perfect Dark is better emulated as well, not Goldeneye though. Mario is good too.

roll for life
personally i dont think game feels better emulated as opposed to be being played on the real thing. but i guess sticking ur pc to a tv with an adaptoid helps loads, if u r sad enuff to do it, which i am, and yes that makes things loads better. seriously 4-player goldeneye on the n64 was fucking good, i dont think playing it on a pc compares despite having better gfx, speed, sound, etc.

james.miller

HELL YES. IT'S ME!
i agree. you cant beat 4 player goldeneye or PDark any any pc or console. IT absolutly ruled, and still does. if only they would bring out a proper update to goldeneye on the pc. think goldeye running on the unreal2 engine, with the possibility of hundreds of players. One.Sweet.Game.....
