Yet another paper mario question

First off, Project64 is running beautifully and i have almost no issues running paper mario 64 on it. the problem is when it tries to (i believe) put a black transparency over the sprites or entire screen. I've seen screenshots of the game being played on the N64 and in places like the Toad Town Pipesystem mario isn't just a silouette.

In the two screenshots (both from the pipes area) the one with the black silouette is my computer, the one that looks right is from gamespot's website. another area (which is why this is such a big deal for me) is in the shyguy toy box. at the very end when you are in the red station you have to go into two rooms that are (again, my guess) tinted black with this overlay. since its not working the entire screen goes black and i have no idea what im doing. you have to fight a boss under this guise which makes it impossible to know what is going on and what to do. if anybody has been able to fix this problem before or could shed a little light on the situation i'd be very greatful.

thanks,
ObsidianX

here, have a save and a savestate ;P

in the save state just go to the room on the right and the problem will come up.

i got it to hide the overlay, or what ever its trying to do, but menus/the status bar/text bubbles don't appear over it, theyr'e all invisible too (while in a dark room)

thanks for the help folks ;)

Cheers,
ObsidianX

EDIT:
just realized the game doesn't use the mempak... sorry

In this room?

that would be the one.

i figured out that if i use Jabo's driver for those particular rooms it works, but its kinda annoying to have to swtich back and forth just for certain rooms

jabo's doesn't do as well everywhere else so thats why i switch back to rice's

That' is not the rom's problem, unless you yourself are using hacked or otherwise bad roms. The problem comes from the emulator itself and/or the graphics plugin.

I had that exact same problem using the Rice plugin and out found out how to fix it. For some reason if you load up Jabo's and go down into the tunnel area beneath toad town and make a save state. Then load Rice's plugin back in and restore that save state in the tunnel area, the outline problem will be fixed in all the areas that it occurs for the rest of the time you play the game. Sounds kind of weird and im not really sure why it works, but it fixes it.
