another problem M$ have had is not providing a high enough profit for retailers

if M$ are expecting profit from the console they got antoher thing coming, games are what make the money, the boxes usually make a loss

the only reason I'd buy an xbox was if I didn't have a reasonably fast pc, but right now I don't see any clearcut reason to get it.
Halo sure looks good but I guess I'm old fashioned in believing that fps work best on the pc and pc only (unless you count multiplayer goldeneye etc). And while DOA3 looks pretty as well, gameplay-wise Tekken beats it hands down.

Maybe my opinion will change if the price does drop and metal gear x comes out for it, but right now I'd much rather have a gamecube.

You should buy an Xbox if you hadn't a good computer... why? Xbox is a console and a PC is... a PC. You do different stuff with them.

well right now my PC happens to run several Console games as well as PC games. plus i can surf the net or chat or even listen to music while doing any of the things mentioned ALL AT THE SAME TIME. plus you can burn CD's and watch DVD's AND download all the crap you could ever need. so yah a PC can be modified to be a N64 or a GBA or a NES or SNES or even a frickin Speak and Spell (remember those things) but a PS2 will never let me use AOL and thats just a fact.

You say that as if it were a bad thing... ;)

(Okay, couldn`t resist such an easy go at AOL...)

Tekken can kiss my ass, the biggest thing happening in may in the uk is the VF4 realease (game wise)

Virtua Fighter was always the best fighting game..

But now it's KNOWN to be the best fighting game because it's on PS2.. :p

Which is wrong.. :p

even tho namco is doing a sweet port of tekken 4 to the ps2,
i still think soul calibur 2 should be their first priority.
im kinda getting sick of tekken fights anyway.
besides tekken2 is allready emulated, thats all i'll ever need

vf3 is good, but the graphics on the ps2 are a bit of a let down. the lack of any software implemented anti-anailasiing (spelling?) makes the jaggies show like mad...although my full-pin scart lead does seem to show the jaggies more with the sharper image. still, with such detailed textures, etc, sega could hav added some software anti-analaising..

I think the speed hit for software anti-aliasing would have been too great, besides there's an X-Box port coming.

i think sega gave it their best, they new from the start that they would have to make sacrifices. but its a no brainer that the xbox would be a more ideal system for porting the mad power of NAOMI 2.

the jaguar had two games that deserved more than the crappy exposure they got from a console that flopped, tempest 2000 and defender 2000, both coded by the same genuis. but you need quantity and quality of games to sell your console, and lets face it microsofts games have always been a bit shit, so i think its success will depend on wether they can persuade sega and namco... etc to put out games for them instead of anyone else. personaly i hope they side with sony/nintendo. making it ugly and combersome cant have done them any favours either, what were they thinking??

damn skippy, virtua fighter 2 on the saturn OWNED tekken, and yet nobody bought it, bloody idiots! so if people actually buy this, give it a chance and realise what theyve been missing then maybe, juuuuust maybe the real best fighting game ever will be known for it :D

and sk8bloke whats with all the mention of vf3? that game is from 1996!

yeah i know what you mean rob about the ps2's graphics. on a big TV their flaws become even more apparent. I hope the gamecube has decent AA as its the only console I can afford :( and is MGS2 the only game to utilise the digital output in the ps2? I just found out it had an 'enable dolby digital 5.1 option'

and sorry sy, but I prefer tekken to virtua fighter anyday. however soul caliburs a whole different story....... and was I the only one who found bloody roar really entertaining?

ps2 has the worst jaggy problem ever in practically all games. itsj ust the regular scart lead (not rgb) blurs the image a bit so u cant see them, which is wat gives the grainy look. when i first used my full pinned scart lead i noticed how poor at times ps2 graphics really were, mainly due to a lack of hardware anti-analiasing, even the dreamcast had some form of this.
