does anyone actually play any gc games on dolphin? all of them seem to be to slow/broken to play. Is there any point in trying to play the games until dolphin is improved?

Yeah some are slow and some are broken and some are bad graphic errors..want to play it ? Buy NGC and give Nintendo a support for now. Do not bother the author about it. It will improving in time but not for a few years..be patient. Go and play your own NGC console if you have one. An Nintendo Game Cube console is not dead yet.;)

Since both these guys sort of avoided your question I'll answer it for you.

As far playing goes, unless it's a 2d game like bust a move you don't have much of a chance of playing it without errors and at a good speed. Most people who use dolphin use it to see how it's coming along. It's not yet a viable gaming emulator for 99% of things.

I didnt avoided his question. I answered it. I "Play" on this emulator to beta test it becuase I think its a real feet of programming progress. Not becuase I want to play gc games.

Indeed it is the CPU that causes slowness. You can have 4 of the faster cards SLI'd and the performance gain would be minimal if any.

Finally, NotMyRealAccount doesn't act as a fool! Actually, the emulator needs to be improved. The Dolphin coders can improve speed, but they want to improve compatibility first.

LOL! Whats wrong with a little joke?

I think they should solve the speed problem cuz who can play a game, play. Who cant, wait xD!

acctualy about that first compatibility then speed... Isn't it hard to test compatibility if the emu runs slow? Or maybe the speed prob need a lot more work than the compat thing.

well, when tester, you gotta test how far can games go. so you have no choice to play it until it hangs , crash or run a bug. even at 2FPS.....

I see. I just wanted to ask: What was the highest fps recorded? And can anyone tell me what average fps i would get on my specs? I haven't got a iso yet.

Not really. I haven't had the chance to play anything on dolphin(as i told u) but i think it was something with R? But what ar ur specs? My question really hasn't been answered.

Bust a Move has full speed, Donkey Konga also has decent speed. Actually, that was the reason I asked for improved speed: no more tedious testing. And I've even heard that improving compatibility is harder than improving speed. But the Dolphin coders do what they want (cuz they have no boss...) so we have to wait.

Improving the speed is most likely harder then compatibilty. It's the way programming works with everything, not just emulation.

You write the code as best you can, but you're always aiming for functionailty first. Once it works you go through and adjust the code to try and speed it up (if needed). In order to really optimize code well you sort of need to know every piece of it, and untill it's entirely written it's basicly impossible to do that. Of course they could go through and speed up what they have now, but it may end up getting undone when more features/compatability is added in.

Optimizating programs is one of the hardest things when programming today. To make matters worse most programmers are much worse at optimizing then they were 10 years ago. Mainly because for your average application it just doesn't matter, computers have gotten so much faster that it allows people to be sloppy and still have programs running at full speed. Of course in the case of dolphin they don't really have that play room with extra speed. That isn't to say dolphin is sloppy, it's just saying that it's hard to find people who are actually any good at it.

And it sure makes life a heck much easier for us.

Blacklord: Almost all games run at 1-5 fps regardless of hardware.
