will a 64 mb pci video card (i think its called geforce) be good enough for 1964 0.9.9? btw, i think this release is really awesome. im able to play mario 64 n mario kart 64 at near full speed with only 4 mb of vram! but goldeneye, wave race, n pilotwings r slow n messed which is y i plan to buy a video card. i plan to buy i think its called a geforce 2 with 64 mb of vram, i saw one at walmart for only 60 bux. anyways, i hope itll really improve my n64 emulation. heres my system specs:

700 mhz intel celeron
intel 82810E graphics controller
192 mb of ram

so does anyway kno if the video card would really improve 64 emulation on my pc? cause i dont want to buy the video card n then find out that it does improve much or not even improve anything at all.

your system is alright, but i recommend upgrading to like an AMD Athlon XP 2500+ Barton or a 2.6 Pentium 4 at least, and getting the likes of a nVidia Geforce FX 5700 for good performance, and if yer not on a budget, get a AMD Athlon 64 3000+ and a Geforce FX 5900 Ultra or ATI Radeon 9800 Pro

It'll improve N64 by quite a bit, mostly accuracy-wise, but with it's own VRAM it'll also be a bit faster.

Massive overkill for N64 emulation and v. pricely, it looks like he only wants to spend $60, not $500... :whistling

yea im only 15 years old n dont have a job. if i were 16, id try to get a job n save up money to buy a new pc, but til then i want to upgrade my pc with basically things that cost 50-60 dollars tops. so i suppose buyin more ram (like 128 or 256 more) n that geforce 2 would help out my 64 emulation on my pc pretty good

Get the GeForce2 MX you're looking at, and also see if you can find (probably online, on eBay or something like that) a Socket 370 Pentium III that's around 900MHz~1GHz. You'll see a substantial improvement.

If it is a PCI card then it will. If it is a AGP card then it won't work unless you have a motherboard with an AGP slot. The range of PCI cards is limited because AGP cards are much faster + better.

Don't get a GeForce FX 5200 PCI, they're generally slower than GeForce4 MX440 cards.

Don't ask if you aren't even going to BOTHER waiting for the damned advice, then. *fumes*

Edit: Well, there went another piece of shit into consumers' hands. Fucking nVidia... wish that ridiculous 5200 didn't exist... it's practically the downfall of the DX9 market.

well i just got the geforce card n installed it n its really good. mario 64 n mario kart 64 now play perfectly. although goldeneye is still slow, its probably because i need a better processor n more ram

It is. 2 months ago I got a new computer myself. I used to have specs similar to yours. I could still play goldeneye though, it was just a little choppy. I used to have a 1 GHz processor with a NVidida GeForce4 MX420 64MB PCI card, and 128MB RAM, now my specs are below, I think it was a good investment.

Try ultrahle (Various versions) with evoodoo glide wrapper for goldeneye.

isn't worth the 300MHz improvement, RAM is the most effective upgrade, but in this case, a graphics card is, anything geforce 2/radeon 9000 or higher will do the job nicely

it is. i dont kno if this is the right topic or even the right forum to discuss this in, but what does the pc66, pc100, n pc133 mean on ram? is that like the bus speed or somethin? like if my pc's bus speed is 66 mhz, do i have to get pc66 ram or somethin?

Get PC133. It's backwards compatible and will probably be cheaper.
