Smash Bros. Melee

Yo,,
I've been searching the forum quite a while now and found quite a few similliar problems. It's about Super Smash Bros. Melee running slow. And don't give me the 'Your computer is to slow!' answer, since that isn't the case. My system surpasses the specs with ease:

- Intel(R) Core(TM)2 CPU 4300 @ 1.80GHz (2 CPUs)
- NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GT
- 2048MB RAM
- Windows XP Proffesional

I've tried alot of different methods and Doplhin clients. Even in 1 of the Dolphins the menu went smoothly (about 80 FPS), but after the character selection and I finally started to fight it dropped to around 8 FPS. I can't game on 8 FPS. What's going wrong here?

Your computer isn't fast enough to handle the regular 32-bit version of Dolphin. No current home computer on the market is, so I'm giving you the much-deserved "Your computer is too slow!!" treatment.

Now, if you had a 64-bit Windows, you could run the newer version of Dolphin that uses dual-core and 64-bit optimizations to achieve faster speed.

It isn't a home computer. I had it custom made by my own flesh and blood. It can even handle Crysis on high with 35 FPS.

The problem is not your Hardware (your PC and the pieces you are using) but your SOFTWARE (you Window XP Pro version).

Even if you could run Crysis on Very High, as long as you use the "normal" version of Window XP you won't get a (much) better FPS.

You are using the x86 version of Window XP (or so it seems) which is the 32bits version. What this means is that the Emu isn't running at full power/fully/taking advantage of your pc.

You need to use Window XP 64 bits and use the 64 bits version of Dolphin, this should give you a much better fps (it will most likely run SSBM too fast in fact).

Until then, you're stuck with a bad FPS, even if you have a good PC.

PS : What you're using is a home computer, since you're using it at home and since it's not a server or whatever.
PPS : I got a similar PC to what you got, running XP Pro 32bits too, the only difference is that my CPU is running at 2.8ghz instead of 1.8ghz like yours, I get a good FPS in menu too... The only difference is that Dolphin doesn't even start a fight for me, it just seems to freeze (it shows trophies but won't start stages).
I'll try a dual-boot, or even reformat my whole PC, I need to do it since it hasnt been for like... 1 year.

These people make me want to bash my head in.

Did you read and understand what the guy said up there? There is no computer on earth that can run a 32 bit dolphin emulator at it's current state. Understand that and move along.

It's the emulator causing the problems, not your PC. The emulator is not ready for use, so it's slow.

You bashed your head in already? Since you're so ill tempered you might deserve it ^^ Anyway, so what you are saying is: 'The emulator can only run on full-power when using an 64-bit OS?' And about the feezing of SSMB. You should change the language from english to something else and change it back. Then you can do whatever you want.

You finally get it ^^ Why dont you use the 64bit version of dolphin if you have a sucha "bloody computer which can play crysis on high with 35 fps" ?

Next time use the search feature and read the sticky posts on the top of the forum. Don't expect everyone to just hand you answers just because you're ignorant and you made a thread.

We get 50 new hot shot like you every day who think they know it all when they know absolutely nothing.

I really dunno it all, since I came here to ask about the matter >.< But yeah, you're probably right and I won't bother you again... at all.

@ Starscream:
One day even you might learn how to handle newbies on this forum. We all started stupit but things changing! They is no reason to be rude to this persons since it wont prevent new threads like that! This Forum is made to help and not to judge people!

@Vitro-Kun:
You might had a bad start but dont think youre bothering us! If you want to ask something then ask... but try to keep attention to the rules! And dolphin creates alot of errors which are already discussed several times so searching might also help!
Good luck in the future!

I read and search old topics before I post in every forum I join, that alone cuts down on stupidity.

People who come here think their question is one of a kind and their problem is the first time anyone has ever thought of asking that question, ever.

I know all about being new and how I was when I first started, but you have to help yourself first before anyone can help you. Get a good idea of what the forum is about and what kind of problems most of the members are having trouble with before you post.

Don't tell me about being nice to others when most others are just looking to be force fed answers to questions that any normal person with a small amount of drive and brains can figure out on ther own.

jesus! u guys are being a little insensitive considering the fact that this guy just joined the forum just to ask for help so quit flamming on the newcomers when they ask obvious questions to us that are not obvious to them especially u [SS] Starscream.

@Vitro-Kun, ur pc is capable of running a 64-bit os, so order online a 64-bit version of windows xp and download the dolphin64 client. even if u decide not to follow through with dolphin, i would still recommend getting a 64 bit os because ur system performance will improve greatly in such areas like better speed, being able to get more done with it being able to handle more tasks at once because it take full advantage of ur processor. so even though it'll set u back a few 100 bucks it'll be worth it just for that. but if ur just going to do it for dolphin, don't bother. instead, go by eb games and get a used gc for 30 bucks. (yup, that's how much they cost)

I have no intentions of upgrading to a 64-bit os. I can play almost every game when configured well and Multitasking is already working fine, so I'm happy the way it is. And for Dolphin... I'll just have to give up ^^

I'm dual-booting with the 64bits version of XP, and the speed difference is definitely quite impressive, I may use the 64bits for a few other things too, but since it (quite likely) doesn't offer any real performance boost when playing PC games I'll probably simply keep it for whenever Dolphin get a frame limiter/fix SSBM. (I'm not sure a frame limiter is what it needs as much as it needs to stop the frames from skipping, making 30 fps look like 100fps).
(and yeah I was aware of that problem, simply wanted to try it for myself, and see if forcing V-Sync yielded any results)

PS : You can always try to overclock your CPU and use Dolphin v1.02 to play SSBM, just make sure you enabled Dynarec in the "Emulation" menu (you know, <<File, Emulation, Options>>).

I usually hang after 2-3 minutes of playtime (example : in the middle of a fight and then boom, freeze) but I sometime get 30fps (rarely, but sometime), usually it's more around 15 tho.
(with a Dual-Core at 2.6ghz, so you really gotta overclock yours quite a bit, but it could be done).
It's not exactly playable (slow and sometime simply freeze, even if I change the language) but it's the only thing do-able without dual-booting/reformatting.

The point Felixfkccc is that the Dolphin x64 version will help you in speed inprovement but for that you need an processor with x64 support and an x64 OS. so yes super smash melee will have more speed of course only with the 64 version of your OS.

i have a Q6600 Quad-core @ 2.4 GHz, but i have a 32-bit OS...
i also have 3 gigs of RAM and a pretty good graphics card...
but it runs at like, .06 fps D:
can anyone explain, or is it just because of the 32-bit OS?
