Schibo's campaign to spam the spammers

Here is a generic version that I wrote. Feel free to email it to them as many times as you like. Be sure to tell all your friends to do the same. (Just keep out the foul language)

Please address this To:
[email protected] and [email protected] and [email protected]

Allow me to take this opportunity to express my utter disgust with your marketing model. The manner in which you are using the messenger service to spam internet users with MessageBox ads should be illegal--and likely soon will be.

With your campaign, you tell us that you can solve our annoying messagebox problem by recreating that very problem every 5 to 10 minutes just to annoy us further. Most of the ads that we receive this way are from you trying to sell us a product to solve this problem. We will not pay you money just to shut you up.

Legal action against you will most certainly come from someone else--that's not our responsibility. Instead, you will be receiving an email from each one of us who are fed up with this pathetic practice. I strongly encourage you to cease your spamming campaign immediately. Until you do, we have decided to return the favor.

Btw, i know that you can shut it off to prevent this, but not everyone knows how to stop this without paying these people..that's the point.

Agreed. Those message box alerts are truly the most annoying thing I've seen on the internet ever, and one of the reasons I don't use messanger anymore. Actually, I forgot to shut it down yesterday, and in the middle of watching a good movie, it popped up. :(

I hope the rest will follow and let these companies know what we think of them.

Surely by emailing these idiots you are just inviting them to sell your address on to other idiots.

I've never suffered this Messenger problem, but that is due to me having disabled the Messenger service - I however have known several people who have been affected by this, it's totally disgraceful what the company is doing. As far as I am concerned, they should be jailed for fraud.

Not to be confused with MSN Messenger. This is instead the Windows Messenger service.
Although that is annoying too. I believe they are using "NET SEND" from the command line. With the Messenger Service, the messages look like this:

I get this 'Messenger Spam' Its very annoying and disrupts online gaming etc. It is unbelievable how such a weakness can be exploited.

You can disable it by going to Control Panel>Adminstrative Tools>Services and then disable messenger. This stops Windows Messenger working though.

I found http://www.stopmessengerspam.com/ to be useful.

you CAN do that...or you can just rename C:\Program Files\Messenger to something else. Right now, mine is named C:\Program Files\MessengerOFF. No side effects whatsoever. Its also much simpler, no?

It isn't MSN Messenger, it is Windows Messenger, renaming MSN will do nothing to fix this problem. If it does, then it's just a coincidence.

Knowing that ive never went to download msn messenger, and that folder was there after a fresh install, AND renaming it disables the ads AND stops it from showing up in the tray when i run outlook...yes that is the folder where Windows Messenger lives.

edit: After looking in the folder, it actually contains pictures (ie logo) for BOTH msn messenger and windows messenger. i was pretty sure it was only Windows Messenger in there, but now Im not so sure...maybe they are really the same beast?
