Where did you download it? If you got it from the pj64 website than you shouldn't get that message.

If you got PJ64 from a trusted source, then it's a false positive. Nothing registers with my antivirus.

Well I did download it from here, now upon further investigation it was in a shared folder that was created to put it onto my other computer, not in the normal directory. Funny thing is that the exe is infected not a dll or a file that can be modified. exe's for the most part can not be modified. Hmm not sure will check into it some more.

It's not infected if you downloaded it from EmuTalk or the official PJ64 website, however, your virus scanner might think it's a virus, like Clements is saying. I suggest you get a decent virus program.

It's also possible that the exe has been contaminated by a virus you have on your computer that has nothing to do with pj64 originally. But if it's the only file on your hard drive with this virus and you have never seen it before, it's probably a false alert.

I use Grisoft's AVG also and it does NOT identify the PJ64 EXE or any related files as a virus. FYI, AVG is a quite excellent AV program. Using it for well over 3 years on my personal system and not once has a virus gotten through. I know there are better ones, Nod32 comes to mind, but for free, AVG is awesome.

So it sounds like you just got infected and need to do some cleaning.

I'd suggest you use Windows update - that virus came from a very old security flaw, that was patched in like 2003.

Absoloutely nothing to do with PJ64.

i use AVG, i think it's right, but that that virus got there after you decompressed pj onto your hdd and ran it...

"When the worm is launched, it infects .EXE files on all accessible drives."

yep, your system was compromised seperately its nothing specific to pj64.

Used to use AVG anti-virus

Around six months ago, I quit using AVG and went with Norton Internet Security. I don't remember the name, but AVG kept informing me about this one virus - yet when I tried to look it up, they had no such information (Symantec had none either). Since going to NIS, I surfed the net the same way as before and got no warning. A virus scan revealed nothing as well.

You get what you pay for.

Just to add my $0.02, I have AVG Free and it found "Win32.Hidrag". It starts out by running under the name "svchost" and infects any executables that are used frequently. Most of my emulators (including PJ64 1.5 and 1.6) were infected. Maybe your virus works the same?

http://www.grisoft.com/doc/virbase/lng/us/tpl/tpl01?nam=Win32/Gaelicum looks like you have an unpatched Windows installation, and Project64 managed to get itself infected?

Because that virus can spread to all .exe files, it can corrupt Windows!!! Thus, time to prepare possibly for a reformat and OS reinstallation, if it gets worse.

Because the patch may not even work, the only solution is the get a firewall!!! It infects PCs the same way like the dreaded Blaster virus does. :(

The creator of the Gaelicum virus should be shot. :(

Thus this makes a total of now 3 known internet viruses.

I've no doubts that AVG can find "Win32.Hidrag". Otherwise, no one would bother having it. It's when it reports a false positive that causes me concern - I don't know about you, but I've better things to do with my time than to stop what I'm doing to eradicate a virus that doesn't exist.

To add to this discussion, svchost.exe is also the name of a legitimate program on Windows NT/2K/XP. It is used to launch programs from DLL files.
