New Car, New Car, Woohoo

Well its new to me anyway. Here are some pics that look almost like mine, I don't have a digital camera so I will post real pics of the actual car at a later date. Mine looks just like this except it has a tinted "bug shield" (I have no idea what its really called) on the front of the hood and a sunroof. It's a 97 Dodge Intrepid with ~55,000 miles on it and an excellent $4500 pricetag. Excellent quality (the previous owner left excellent records in the glove compartment before he traded it in as well). The only problem I really saw on it was its got some window tinting bubbling/peeling but at that age/price, beggers can't be choosers. It's at the mechanic now and if all is good, it will be mine in a few days.

Oh I forgot the important stuff

Its a 4D Sedan (not the ES model). V6 3.5 Liter A/C, Power Steering, Power Windows, Power Door Locks, Dual Power Mirrors, Tilt Wheel, Cruise Control, AM/FM Stereo, Cassette, Dual Front Airbags, Dual Power Seats, Sliding Sunroof, Alloy Wheels, Cloth Interior.

It also has some cool features, it has a digital readout that tells you the gas level, the miles per gallon it is getting, the amount of miles you can travel on your current tank of gas, a digital compas. Pretty cool stuff really.

In my excitement I posted misinformation. It IS an ES model which means it also has 4 Wheel ABS, only 1 power seat, and my friend is telling me its a moonroof, not a sunroof. I'm not sure of the difference but basically this is a window roof that has an auto control to either open as a vent or slide back completely. On the interior it has a sunblock cover that slides in front of the window.

Wow, they don't make them that large in the UK! That must be difficult to park in busy areas! I see cars such as the Smart Car becoming insanely popular in the inner city areas over here:

That wave is coming to Germany either! In the Mannheim inner city there are lots of smarts or similar small cars like the Ford KA for example. It's funny to see that two cars can take one Parking space.

I've also seen lot's of tuned cars since Need for Speed underground has been released, a coincidence ? Maybe

I thought I knew the difference, but I guess I was wrong.

btw, my car has the exact same setup. The sliding shade is a lifesaver when the sun is directly overhead.

I don't have a digital camera here, so the car on the pic isn't my car, mine is red. An no that's not my only car, i have a second one but it's not as fun as this wonderful little car !

lol, thats really not that expensive for a car hehe. The other intrepid I looked at was a 99 non ES model and it was Gold, but it had less features and about the same mileage. It was almost $7000, lets not get into new cars.

Hmm...I'll try to put this as lightly as possible but...My dad has been an auto mechanic for nearly 28 years, he owns an auto repair shop, and until recently he owned a used car dealorship. He can never say enough bad things about most midrange to lower end dodge sedans (which would include neons and intrepids.) Of course it will vary from car to car, but he says they don't last particularly long and they go down in value quickly. At $4500 you don't have much to lose though. It should stay above the $3500 range for at least the next year or two (that is just my own estimate though, I could be wrong.)

Your dad must be the only one that says that. Every other person I've talked to including the mechanic I took it to, the dealership, my car insurance broker and even the banker I financed with said they were good little cars. I've never had a problem with dodges before, my family has owned 4, one was mine which was a 92 dodge dynasty that lasted me until recently. Sorry but your dad is the first to tell me anything bad about it.

That's a pretty damn good deal, a car with under 100,000 miles for a price like that. My car, a 1997 Mustang Convertable went for $8,000 and it had 35,000 miles on it.

rofl That all depends on where you live, I'm not a fan of non-american made cars. Here it is so expensive to repair & service them. BTW, I actually talked them down $500 due to a scrape on the front fender and a few plastic pieces broken on the interior (a sun visor clip and a latch for the cup holder), and the gas lifts that hold the hood up are shot and need replacing. The final asking price before tax, title and license was $3,995. Over all nothing too big was wrong with it and now its mine. Pictures are still coming, its been raining here.

i'll have to agree with alpha here... i see so many american cars being rated low on reliability and crash tests, high recall rates, and so on.

Try Consumer Reports. That's a japanese sweep right there, over 4 categories. It's insane how well they engineer those things. As for used car value, Honda Civics reap freaking high prices, and for good reason.

Honda? I test drove a 4 door honda and it couldn't get its own weight with 3 passengers up a hill. Guys I live in EAST Texas, no flat land here. I need a car with power (aka V6 or higher). Most the hondas I drove had 4 cylinder engines.

hehe, fair enough. can't have it all when you're shopping for a bargain. i'm happy for your purchase though, sounds like a good deal. i just wouldn't buy it myself
