I think the superbowl reflects what Americans are (not all of them but typically what they tend to like and do). Thus, Janet's flash and a quite a lot of those superbowl commercials had sex appeals will give a negative impression of Americans. Although I have seen much worse than Janet's very brief flash, there are kids and 140 some million(?) people (in America) watching the superbowl and that nudity stunt was totally uncalled for. The big fuss in the media is that this type of nudity stunt violates human ethics, morals, manners, etc., and is not appropriate in front of kids and to some adults (although the media hypocritically shows much worse than that on a daily basis in my opinion). It's all about image and what defines an American. I think people don't want to accept this definition of Americans that they watch "this type of bad stuff" regularly and how unethical and unmoral they can be in reality (again, not all Americans are like this).

BTW, what is so immoral and reprehensible about sex anyways? Some of you act as though it should be a capital offense bordering with murder. (according to the bible, it is a capital offense in many cases, so it's good thing we don't go by the bible) If sex was such a bad thing, then why did god make it a requirement for survival?

jollyrancher yawns... man she's old enough to be my mom or something... not very sexy or "shocking" if you ask me. And with this Christian stuff... not my beliefs, but Alpha's sig is more "one sided" than offensive. Sorta reminds me of Ned Flanders in the Simpsons.

Isn't one of the complaints with the whole issue the fact that the non-cable channels aren't allowed by the FCC to broadcast indecent material until after a certain time during the day?

Good point. My parents would always say to look away when there was a sex scene going on in a movie in my childhood years. And in elementary school, junior high, and even high school, I remember any movies that students bring in (last day of school is usually fun day) must not have too much violence or any sex in it. So I guess people grow up with the thought that sex must be shameful if you are told you can't look at it at least while watching it with others.
But in effort to decrease under age pregnancy, this is why sex is taboo talk for children (probably 10 and under) to understand and view. Maybe the whole fuss about the superbowl is that the media broke its trust to the public in delivering an event that could be viewed by any age. But Janet's flash was very fast so I bet most children won't react much to that anyway. Nonetheless, it was an eyeopener and shocking to see the "taboo" nudity on public television.
EDIT: One more thing, wouldn't people think "Wow, how indecent the media is to broadcast Janet's flash while children are watching." I think this is why there is so much fuss about Janet's flash.

I was in Europe for awhile and they had full-frontal on public TV in England... for more than half a second. France/Japan are even more daring. For the U.S. people, remember how they used to show ugly asses on NYPD Blue? I think that this whole notion of "shocking" is just accentuated by the media to get people riled up and watch their TV shows and buy the tabloids/magazines. I mean an 8 year old can go to a beastiality web site in 5 seconds, which is slightly more disturbing, but you don't hear about it because it's old news and it won't sell magazines.

I have a hillarious picture about this. It has a closeup, is it okay if I post it? I wanted to ask first since it is somewhat nudity.
I didn't care she showed her boob, heck I would have rather seen both with nothing holding them back.
I do see why some are ticked about it though. Had my 5 or 8 year old sons been watching with me they would have surely asked me why that lady did that, what was that on her boob, and maybe other stuff. As a parent I don't think I should have to make sure that a sporting event is rated "E". My kids just are not old enough in my mind to need to be explaining this sorta crap to them.

...This whole damn thing is fucking shit. I'm really tired of people making a big deal over a freakin boob being showed on television, and the damn nipple was still covered, so what's the big deal...? Nothing! If people can't handle a bit of this stuff, than they shouldn't even have sex. If I asked someone in Europe about that incident they would go "yeah, so what?". Really...I think us Americans are way too tight on this kind of thing. When I was 7 years old I knew about the anatomy and everything and I didn't make a big deal of it if I ever saw it. If I had children, I wouldn't let them watch porn probably until they are 14-16 , but soft porn and "flashes" I wouldn't make a big deal of. If they look at porn, and I don't know if they do, oh fucking well.
I just think it's another money/publicity stunt.
