Well...

A) I lived in southern Iowa, where there wasn't (and still might not be) cable internet options.

B) I live in Colorado, where the only choice is AT&T (which is now Comcast).

It's like being concerned about what stupid options AOL is offering this month when I never use their damn service. :)

Actually, there are two cable ISPs available in Colorado, Comcast and Adelphia, AFAIK. Comcast reportedly sucks the most, thus you should choose Adelphia.

I have been getting some wording that Comcast sucks, because their TOS reportedly states that even a VPN is prohibited, Comcast has the guts to tell people they're prohibited from setting up a VPN in your own house!!!
Also, even worse I gotten some wording that Comcast will have people drive by your house, possibly everyday to see what what you got connected on your house and thus if they see you have a VPN or more than one computer hooked up to the cable, your account will be terminated or they have a computer port scan you repeatedly to stop people from running a server.

Either that's complete and utter BS or Comcast must hire a lot of staff (many of them with Xray vision I would suspect).

Well, the VPN stuff, if it's in the TOS, doesn't mean squat.

I've worked from home for 10 months now and I use a VPN to connect to work every day. :)

I couldn't recall what the braodband situation was in Iowa, because when I left, AT&T was just switching to Mediacom (iirc) for cable, AT&T had just bough @Home, and the internet stuff hadn't really gotten off the ground yet.

All in all, I'm quite happy with the service Comcast has provided here in the Denver Metro.

Anyways, back to RoadRunner. I know about the AOL/Time Warner crap, but I don't recall RoadRunner being mentioned. *shrug*

RoadRunner is in only certain parts of the country, (they aren't in my area, nor have they ever been) but, if you ever read, watch, or listen to the news on any medium, you should have heard of them at least once by now. Hell, they merged with AOL for christ sake. Nobody here remembers the time-warner fiasco? Thats scary.

Sorry, I try to avoid any news that has to do with AOL. If I see those letters next to eachother like that, I skip to the next news story. :D

Hey, pardon my ignorance, but, WTF is VPN?

oh, and, the only way to go faster is, get cable internet....

Cable isn't the ONLY broadband option. xDSL, Satellite (although I'm not sure how satellite qualifies).. ;)

Virtual Private Network.

like a LAN over WAN. you can make a private connection between your office computer and home computer over internet for example.

Hm, interesting, I would like to learn more about that... that means that I can get bandwidth from a different network for free...? or you just conect with the computer... cause if you can get bandwidth, I have a server that would do wonders with that... (evil grin)

no... you connect to that VPN using the internet. ie. it's the speed of your internet.

oh, well, I just misunderstood...
btw, cool: I just posed an example with cable internet conection, I know there are other options, some better, and some crummier...
man, how could I get bandwidth from the servers at my college...? 'cause they get insane download rates, specially at night (100-150 kbps!!!!) but, anyhow...
