if i'm reading right, you're trying to run the game from your gc disc, right?
if yes, forget it. you cannot run it from disc cause your cd/dvd drive is not able to read gc discs. the only thing you can do is to rip the mini-disc.
ah, and you can't ask how rip it here. it is an illegal practice.

But if it's illegal to rip the disc, how the hell do you get roms for this anyways?? OBviously Someone is ripping them. Bleh.

Illegal or not, this is not an allowed discussion for this forum.
plus, if Someone is doing an illegal act, thats his problem, cause will be him who will answer for his illegal act :)

Some people do do illegal things. Do you know how much music is illegally swapped online? Right now the only way to run a GC game on your computer is to either obtain an ISO by some illegal means, or rip the innards out of a GC and somehow adapt the drive so it will work on a computer with the emulator (probably not gonna happen). Since it's prohibited to discuss methods of obtaining illegal things here, you're on your own getting yourself an ISO. They're out there, but we can't tell you where or how to find them.

Also FYI, GameCube emulation is not very advanced yet, and it is likely that even if you do manage to get a game running, it won't run at a playable speed (unless it doesn't have any 3D rendering in it).

I surely hope you don't think that ISO's are ripped by tearing apart a GC and somehow fusing it with a PC, as I can assure you, it's a bit more technical (and cleaner) task than that.;) It's more along the lines of using the broadband adapter and a certain game. But I can't get into the specifics.

No no no. :D Don't worry - I didn't think that. But in some countries (like the U.S.) ripping a disc that has some sort of copy-protection is also considered illegal, so I meant for that to be included in the "illegal means". I know the process, but like you said - no specifics.

In Australia it's illegal to make mp3s out of your own legally bought music cds. Yet they sell ipods like mad. It's also illegal to tape TV shows off TVs. Why sell VCRs then?

The laws are being changed now, not that i've ever heard of someone being busted for taping a TV show.

One time I tried to stick a tape in my VCR to record The Superbowl, and the FBI landed appache helacopters in my backyard and busted down the door and shot several rounds into my VCR and then left. Oh wait... never mind, that didnt happen to me. :whistling *PM me if you know where I got that from*

I don't think you emulate the games. The emulator does the job of emulating the GameCube system itself, and you play the games. ;)

I remember there was this one time when I riding on my bicycle and listening to my IPod when a G-man stepped out from around the corner and BAM!! Herpes.

The way I see it, ripping a game you bought for your own pleasure is no different from backing up a PC game you bought and cherish. I can't see why you'd want to back up a PC game, but still, you get what I mean.

In the US, you are allowed to make a "reasonable" number of copies (as determined by the courts) of any legally acquired copyrighted material, as long as you do not distribute those copies. US copyright laws allow you to make copies in case the original degrades or gets destroyed/lost/stolen, or whatever.

I could get into the whole thing about how DRM is not compatible with US copyright, and is ultimately a fruitless endeavor, but I don't feel like writing that much tonight. :p
