Firstly, enable fog!
GO to the plug in setting and be sure you're using Jabbo's 1.4 D3D 7 not 6!
Use whatever audio plugin, but I recomend Jabbo's sound 1.4.
Don't have other stuff running in the background!

...i tested a Celeron 1.2ghz tualatin on my dell system and it laid waste to my Pentium4 1.5ghz system with the same video card. worked great with pj64.

Anything can lay waste to the P4, that cut out all of the good stuff just to get it released eairly. And the Celerons are just other Processers like the P3 with a few feactures removed and bus speed lowerd so they can be sold at a resonable price.

MHz don't mean eveything. If a chip dosen't have all the goodies that a program needs then it's gonna have more thing it needs to compute and therefore won't be able to run at it's full speed as well as a chip with all the goodies can. I believe AMD is at the top of the mountain here and if/when I can upgrade I'm gonna go that route.

VIA drivers on Intel motherboard??

Okay, i really don't know what's the problem. PJ64 isn't running well on my system. I have a Celeron 1 Ghz with 324 megs of ram and a geforce 2 MX-400 64 megs. I have win2k pro. AGP 4x is enabled and the fast writes are also enabled. I have the latest detonator drivers and the VIA drivers too.

Why did you install VIA drivers?

VIA drivers are only for certain motherboards that use
AMD processors, not Intel.

Their for the intels too

and they if you have ever tried installing the 'very' unstable 23.11 drivers you will know that they have problems with the VIA based motherboards, and the VIA drivers improve IDE performance for any VIA based motherboard regardless of the cpu being amd or intel -nt- 0wned

To my knowledge, there's no such thing as a VIA
chipset for an Intel processor. Like I said, he is trying
to install VIA drivers to his Intel chipset motherboard
and it won't work since VIA chipsets support ONLY AMD.

If you know of any VIA chipset motherboard that supports
an Intel processor, feel free to give us the manufacturer
and name of the board.

I couldn't find one.

Thanks.

Mate ur problem is either the compatibility with win2k, or you are asking too much from ur graphics card, what resolution are u playing at? What colour 16-32? Which options do you have enabled.

I have a pentium 4 1.7, with 256meg and a geforce 2 mx400, i thought my comp could handle andything and turned on all the options that made the game look sweet, but the comp couldnt handle it and the framerate was crap. So I went back and made everything defualts and the resolution to 1024-768, 32 bit, and all games run fine and 50-60fps.

geometry transforms should not be automatic, and correct me if im wrong, but win200 is bad for pj64
win 2k is faster and very stable for pj 64. I have an overclocked cpu (win 98 crash a lot for me with that) the problem is that win 2k sucks with real pc games, like q3 arena (45% slower!)

WinXP is pretty good for gaming

i've had a better performance increase and stability 'of course' than when using win98se AND win2k
