oh yeah, and sk8, ANY athlon will run circles around coppermines.

honestly in my experience any athlon at all runs circles around an even remotely comparable price/mhz pentium derivative. i don't know why anyone buys intel anymore, but hey, it's nice to have the competition between them, eh?

Just have to bring up that the Coppermine actually was faster than the T-Bird clock-for-clock most of the time (I don't count FPU-burners like Lightwave), add to that the fact that Coppermine has one FPU versus Athlon's THREE and you get an absolutely embarrassing defeat IMO.

And the thoroughly crippled Tualatin still gave Palomino a VERY good run for its money (matched at every turn!). :)

----------------------------

On a side note, I get very little slowdown with an 800MHz Coppermine (with single-channel DRDRAM no less, beat that!) and a Kyro II... that's in PJ64 1.5b1. I can't run 1.5 Final, I get the failed to allocate memory error no matter what I do (see appropriate threads for more information).

eeerm tualatins are good processors, thats true, but the crippled memory interface and the high prices make them no good choice. i was running a P 3 700@933 and am running a tualatin P3 celeron @ 1.6ghz right now. it was worth it for me because i didnt have to buy a new board and memory, but dude! an xp 1600+ ocs to about 1900mhz and only costs 50$!!! already ordered one :p

Still THAT problem

i wrote in for the "Failed 2 allocate memory" under xp, i still get this message. pj1.5.exe is not in compatibility mode, i have already installed the sp1, but still got this problem

btw, on win98, everything starts ok, after a couple of day i get this problem on it too

i really dunno what 2 do, i got it on another pc too, both of them carrying athlon xp processor with radeon video card and 256mb ddr ram, mine winxp prof, the other win xp home

my n64 romset is scanned with clrmame plus n64 dat, so isn't up 2 a specific romset, plus this problem start after a couple of days, even after formatting hd.

no way till now, no problem with any other pj version, any clue?

details

ok,regarding "Failed 2 allocate memory":

-my pc: athlon xp 1700, Ati radeon 8500 64mbddr, 512 mb ddr ram

-os: win xp professional

-default virtual memory:384 mb, also tried system auto-memory definition" ( or something similar )

this problem happens also at start up, no heavy program activated

fact it start to happen even a couple days after formatting hd is beyond me....

This is really a mystery of area 51 proportions...Anyway the only thing I can tell you is (and no this is not another generic advice of the type "make sure you have the latest drivers" :p ):
Do a clean install of xp pro with the service pack, then install the latest drivers from Ati for your card and don't touch anything, leave absolutely everything at their default settings. Then download again Project64 and try to install it.If this doesn't work, then can it be a compatibility problem?Maybe.

we'll see

i'll do it asap, probably it'll work for a day or two, but again it'll be fun while it last!

anyway, in those days i remember 1.5 final working, i got absolutely no frezee whatsoever, another strange thing since many of you has encountered this problem, especially with wipeout 64, a game i have spent quite a lot of time on it without any problem.

regarding game fixes, i gotta play Sin and Punishment on 1.5 b1, since in 1.5 final i got clear movies ( no garbage ), but in-game graphics is sometimes messed up and so unplayable.

reading all post in this thread, i've seen "Failed 2 allocate memory" isn't due 2 Radeon issue, since a guy with a Nvidia card got the same problem, and a friend of mine with an almost exact replica of my pc hasn't got this problem with it.

last but not least, yesterday i've tried 2 set a manual memory paging at 600-900 mb, with a total memory allocated of 190 mb ( that's 400+ mb free memory ), still no luck...

<_<
