Computer hangup -_-

Doomulation

?????????????????????????
As the title states, my computer tends to lock itself up after som playing...
what I've researched on this is that it only seems to happen to snes emulation...
it happens randomly, using any game.
N64 seems mostly unaffected. Once it did lockup, and once it locked up after a *very* long time...that's not a big issue I suppose...
Also, when I tried ps emulation, I got a yet worse issue: when playing FF9 (yeah i know it sucks :p), when getting to the first battle, windows shuts down with an error message saying an error occoured in nv4_disp.dll. Which, of course, is the gfx drivers...ugh. Downloading 20 mb on 56k is a pain...damn nvidia...why must you put all cards into the same file?!

So, clearly, the ps emulation is affected by the gfx drivers...could the others be too?
I don't have anything overclocked due to that it did cause instability.

Also, as I may ask, is there a way to make windows attach a network drive with user/pass OTHER than the login name? (Don't bug me, I know windows sucks... it's at school :p)

FFIX crashing on ePSXe 1.6 is a known issue... use 1.5.2. With the other programs crashing, it's probably only 50/50 that the Nvidia drivers are at fault... also check the CPU's temperature to make sure it's not overheating.

Nah...I wouldn't bet on it. I can constantly feel the chilling fan blowing out air :p
Anyway, n64 emulation is far more requiring than snes, and it's not hanging, so I would believe that it's not an overheating problem...the processor is pretty cool now, compared to before hehe.

I'll try an earlier version of ePSXe for FF9 then...but still, why would it crash the gfx drivers?

Oh and I think I'm using 43.XX drivers...or at least some 4X.XX drivers, I know...I don't keep downloading new drivers due to their sheer size.

Doom you may want to take the time and update to the 52.XX drivers, that very well may solve your problem. Interesting though about SNES, the probalem may be Nvidias 2d processor is less sturdy the the 3d? I dont know so dont take my word on it, just a thought.

The Nvidia drivers for the Ti4200 have been out since 28.xx or something so I would be shocked if they put out a 43.xx set that caused many programs to crash... there would have been an uproar in the Nvidia forums and they would have recalled it, etc... You should still install new drivers, but I'd also check other things if the computer is consistently crashing.

Yeah sure. There's just one slight problem that always pokes my eye nowadays when it comes to downloading stuff.
Which is: the modem is intern and it's not in my computer. So...to make it work, I have to establish a network. How nice.
Then later, it's always plucked apart.
Meh. I will see what I can do, however (no, I'm not going to switch place of that modem, that's too frustrating and time draining and I really don't feel up to doing it any day.)

I also have an internal modem but I pulled it out and know I have a 256/128 connection. It´s not much but at least it´s something.
Here in Argentina the people with 256 or better conecctions is not as normal as it is in US, here almost everybody has dial-up.

The notorious infinite loop crash syndrome, people hate it.

For me, under Windows XP Pro, Need For Speed III seems to trigger an infinite loop crash, while Jabo's GFX and GTA III are stable.
