Any hope for that case? (ATI Mobility M1...)

Hi,

I'm desperately trying to run Mario Kart 64 on my system, but each time I give it another go I encounter another flaw that detracts me from enjoying the game.

My system (notebook) isn't really uptodate (euphemism) : PIII 500 Mhz, 128 MB Ram, ATI Mobility M1 8 MB - but I thought the notebook would deliver sufficient power to run at least this single game. Unfortunately, until now it rather seems the other way, as "Corn" enables me to play MK64 at a very stable framerate, but there are still graphical glitches like black squares that appear beneath the karts or texture faults (for example: on the Mumu Farm track the brown ground is mixed with the lawn texture). Project64 and UltraHLE also "feature" these optical bugs and, furthermore, cannot compare with Corn in terms of speed.

Somehow it seems there is virtually no way to get the game going without any problems - is the ATI graphics card just too old to be supported by the various plugins?

Regards,
pa

Yes, and 8MB of video memory (if I read right) isn't exactly sufficient to run most games. Furthermore, the fact that it's an integrated chip doesn't make things better.

Correct me if I'm wrong though.

Its a 6 year old ATi Rage-based chip, so pretty much every plugin will disagree with it.

Oh man, I have an ATI Rage video card in computer, and it's useless for anything else than pure 2D rendering... even though it was touted to have extensive 2D/3D capabilities... It's a six-year-old computer too. What a waste of money.

See sig. Use 1964+glide64. Also, ultraHLE shoudln't give you any glitches if you're using the right wrapper...

Thanks for the link to the guide...I will try to work my way through it ;) .

Generally, I'm not really disappointed with the ATI M1 performance - I didn't expect too much right from the start and I'm quite satisfied that I can "even" play games like Half-Life / UT / FIFA 2000 / Test Drive 5 without any drawbacks...
