I just recently uninstalled norton antivirus off of my cpu for many reasons, and now I'm looking for a decent antivirus program to purchase. can anyone please tell me of any good programs out there that aren't as bad as norton was for me? I would appreciate it.

I´m on Avast! as my antivirus and Zone Alarm as my firewall, both free and i do not experience any problem.

Many of my friends say a Kaspersky is pretty good AntiVirus, i havent tested it tough, because i use Norton Antivirus.

If you want a free Antivirus go for AVG Free Edition.

I just installed Avast! home edition 4 and it seems to be working well. especially cause it's free!

AVG, Avast, AntiVir, ClamAV... all are free and the first 3 are most popular, the 4th being open source

well so far avast! is working well, so I'm sticking with that. it already detected a virus that was in my cpu for the period of time I was relying on windows live safety centre. thanks for the tip, WhiteX.

Unfortunately lots of people call their tower a cpu. I highly doubt it was in the cpu :p

That's a "tradition" from 60s when CPU was a crate of discrete chips. :)

BTW Avast is really great - it's free and it requires a lot less resources than Kaspersky or Norton and it does the job as good as any non-free antivirus.

Avast! is free because you send virus data for them to improve the corporate (paid) edition.
So the free edition needs to be constantly updated in order to protect from thew latest virus and give them the latest information.

Most of the time ppl use pirate AV software, i rather use a free one. ;)

that's a first...

if I had a quarter for all the viruses that norton has missed and/or found but not cleaned up ... the amount of sytem memory that it hoggs... the amount of times that it has constantly asked me to update after doing so a thousand times, and paying once... well I guess I would be a very wealthy man. :p

I use NOD32. It doesn't eat up all your resources, it get updates often, has high security and it's nice to config.
