that's a first...

if I had a quarter for all the viruses that norton has missed and/or found but not cleaned up ... the amount of sytem memory that it hoggs... the amount of times that it has constantly asked me to update after doing so a thousand times, and paying once... well I guess I would be a very wealthy man. :p

hehe .. who said u had to pay .. hehe

Unfortunately lots of people call their tower a cpu.
My parents have this annoying tendency. Actually, out of hopeless computer illiteracy, my dad sometimes calls it a 'PCU'. Oh well, I think they're probably more tech savvy than a lot of parents out there, though that's not saying much. But yeah, another vote for Avast - it's sniffed out some viruses that even Norton let infiltrate my PC.

I will stress this to you all people...
If you have a good computer with a good HD (fast, much cache), much memory (at least 1 gb) and a good processor, then there is no way that you'll notice a slowdown when using memory hungry programs. Heck, I went through the entire Tweak Guide and I saw little to no improvement.

Avast! is free because you send virus data for them to improve the corporate (paid) edition.
So the free edition needs to be constantly updated in order to protect from thew latest virus and give them the latest information.

Most of the time ppl use pirate AV software, i rather use a free one. ;)

yep. avast or avg both have free versions wich are every bit as good as any you can buy. no need to pirate if you can get it free legally.

I sort of like AntiVir because it has a nicer interface and features that are missing in the free edition of AVG... though earlier editions of version 7 seemed to slow my computer a bit so I switched and am still using AVG, but will probably try it again soon. (plus it's a smaller file size so nice if you're on a dial up connection)
