i'm chasing them away so they don't become a bother for us and the nice folks working hard as they can, negative comments such as making requests or outright stating their dissatisfaction towards translatetion speed and release dates even going as far as demanding the folks to hand them over a release of the *file* because they want to have it right away. if these negative comments continue, i fear for the worst, and so i hold a grudge against these kids becuase i want everyone to know that i care about the welfare of the project and foul remark by these kids will be met with kind hearted advice from my part. they should be glad and thankful

Some?

Firebgre:

-you said you know some jp, then why do you need a translator then?

-how exactly does you jp skills comes in? we're transleting from jp to eng.

-if you're good enough to polish the grammer of the terribily screwed up jp text that babelfish throws out, why do you need the transletor?

Ahem. I believe some was the keyword, no? "Negative comments such as making requests?" Where are you from?! Sorry to see you so angry, Terri-Billy, I'm sure this was brewing and became a fuse falsely blown.

did i said YOU made request? how long have you been here? did you check previous posts in this thread? what i said in post #321 was not even referring to you, i was referring to all those kids who came before you,
are you really so self-centered that you think all my comments are directed towards you?

you quote my questions but you have yet to answer them, why?

then you said:

Negative comments such as making requests?" Where are you from?! Sorry to see you so angry, Terri-Billy, I'm sure this was brewing and became a fuse falsely blown.

judging by the fact that you assume i have a special grudge against you, i can see how kiddy you are, as i said earlier, you gave youself away, and now you're making a last ditch attempt to rebuff me; i've seen thousands of kids acting this way, you're no exception.

you failed to read other's post properly, what's more ironic is that you try to use my "Negative comments such as making requests?" comment against me, little did you realized that all you did was show the entire world how smart you are by quoting a comment that wasn't even meant for you, and forcefully saying it was indeed, directed to you and that i misunderstood you; did you thought everyone was blind?

the more you speak the more a fool you're making yourselves.

what you're doing here, is lying, and i rekon those who made requests are certainly less of a pathetic anonyance than you are.

don't go right ahead and assume proudly that you made me snapped, if someone did made me snapped it's obvious kids like you bragging/begging/demanding/requesting...etc. you're just one of them.

KIDS like you are the reason coders decided to give up on projects because everyday they come here and all they see is crying/whining children and sometimes even threatened by them to immediatly release the source code becuase they blissfully assume that the coders are holding on to the project and not release them just to TEASE them, you have no idea how many of YOU come bragging here claiming "i know japanese!", i certainly have a very good reason to say that you are one of them because:

-you said you could polish grammer of text that a transletor throws out, if you can polish such messy grammer then you wouldn't need transletor in the first place now would you?

-to polish screw-up jp grammer you'll need to learnt atleast 1000 kenjii and katanas, the japs themselves have trouble doing that themselves since they rarely use kenjii and favour using chinese charactrer in katana insted to ease writing and grammer correction; it takes an avarge jap 10 years from elementry to high school to learn all that, and they can only polish so much, so what makes you think you can do it?

-"some" is not an excuse, an example: if you only know 'some' english then you won't be able to spell check or correct punctuation/verb...etc. in other words, if you can polish 'some' terribily mess up grammer by the translator you can certainly translate most, if not all text, not just 'some'.

i already said in my earlier post that you already blown your own cover by saying you can polish some grammer and yet you use a translator, dispite that you still relentlessly try to make one a last-ditched effort to save yourself by using 'some' as your last saving grace. did you blissfully thought it'll work?

you fail to use my own comments aganst me, which was your own fault.

you fail to answer my quetion and prove to me that you are not what i said you are, insted you quote my questions for you and dodge all of it.

you fail to even lie to us all that you know jp, noone told you to say what you said, so guess who's fault was that? atleast make an effort and lie better.

There are too many people working on it to say. There are people doing the item list, others on conversation text, at least one or two refitting text to the new font. You'd be hard pressed to find a game where the text is actually in event order, so it might not get done in that way. I think most of the task stuff is already finished though. Then there's the image-based text...

So, right now, no clue. There's a lot of recompilation necessary, and summer is usually a slump-time. Slump slump slump. It will probably be a while until the next patch is ready but don't worry, there will be notice on the boards ;*)

The trouble is nobody ever bothered extracting all the text into one little place, probably because you needed the table to get text lengths and there's these control characters about as well. They aren't text, but trigger textual effects, sound effects, or animations. So, there isn't exactly a script extracted as of yet. If you want a few thousand lines of text from Custom Robo V2 though, you're welcome to it ;*)

----------------------------------------
This does point out a serious problem though... Text patches probably aren't going to be portable for very long. The first person to translate something and shove it into a patch will break the next person who moves some text and translates that. Somebody is going to need to get all the translated text together, then compile it as a 1-shot deal.

Guess what? That's just what I've started doing! I'm working from the GameCube AC's text files (which match up exactly, aside from holidays/extras) and am putting it all together. I'll have "true" 'net access again tomorrow, so I'll post my WIP then.

Bye!

I'm back. Wow, it's been a while.

Okay, here is the latest patch.

I must admit, all that is done since the last patch is some post office text (with Pelly, mailing a letter).

In reference to the question of "What's up with the signs?!" Yeah, they are a little screwed up right now. Basically, with each sign that I've found in the game, I've changed the text to have the word "sign" repeated, as well as the hex address. They also alternate upper and lower-case to differentiate adjacent sign text. Anyone who wants to figure out these signs' translations is welcome to do so, but beware - some signs are random and some are event specific.

As far as the text patches not working with each other; they actually do, as long as the length of each text string remains the same. Also, each piece of work is e-mailed to me, where I compile them all together, release a patch and then work is done from that new patch and the process repeats.

Okay, so where the heck have I been? Well, about 2 and a hald months ago, I started having some stomach pains as well as a consistent fever. After a week, I decided it was time to goto the doc. They thought it was my appendix, removed it, nothing changed. I went back to the hospital, was diagnosed with Crohn's disease. All in all, I was hospitalized for two weeks, one week each visit, along with 2 months of recovery. Anyway, so I'm back; hopefully we can get this ball rolling again. If zoinkity or Aura_k could sum up everything that's been done in my absence, that'd be great. :)

I'll see if I can work like an ox for the next few days and get some more post office and police station text.

Y'all have fun and God bless. :)

I'll be honest here: I got sidetracked. VERY sidetracked. So, I've made about no progress from my last post. Therefore, I'm posting my really unfinished WIP of text ripped from Animal Crossing for GameCube, with things not in DnM removed.

Note that I never got the chance to work on holiday text. Fortunately, not many of the holidays are *that* much different, so that shouldn't be a problem. A bigger problem will be the Memory Pak text. Most the Memory Card text in ACGC is fine-tuned for the GameCube. Since I don't know what the error text in the 64 version says, I can't work on that until I get at the very least a Babblefished/Google Burninated version of that text. >_>

Also, it's very good to see that you're back, Lysol! I'll just get things ready for you.

I'm preparing the town for you.
Please don't turn off the power
or remove the Nintendo 64 Controller!

*shot*

Anyway, let's see what progress we've made here..

Not much in actual text, we've made a lot more in technical progress, for example the Variable-width Font.

EDIT: I've made my DeviantART page into a screenshot gallery for this project. It's here: The Animal Forest Gallery! (all of it got moved to Scraps by dA. sorry.)

Later,

HUTTAH! IT LIVES AGAIN!

First off, I have an interim patch, combining Lysol's latest update with the variable-width font.

Second, I have a pack of WIP string data sets. It includes Mail data, Menu selections data, and mail strings.

Finally, I have a nice selection of Animal Forest GameShark codes by Mike007.

Now, praise me, give me sweets and flowers, and then get back to work. I know that's what I'm doing. Especially the sweets and flowers part. :p

Can someone please explain how to patch the rom? I tried with LunarIPS and when the game loads all I get is the N64 logo and the voice saying 'Nintendo' then PJ64 freezes.

I believe I might have an explanation. But I'm not entirely sure.

The ROM you are using may be a byte-swapped one.

Zoinkity says in his readme for his Variable Width Font that you should only apply the patch to a "non-byteswapped rom"

Unless I am much mistaken: a non-byteswapped rom will end in ".z64"
So check your file extension before you apply this current patch. :)

So I apologize if I am wrong. And If I am wrong, I hope someone more proficient in ROM Hackery can correct me. :)

Anyways: Go Aurakitsune. Breathing new life into this project! I applaud you. Hoping to see more good stuff in the future

This is a spectacular project! I am amazed at the quality of this translation, and eagerly await new updates.

Thank you so much for your hard work and effort.

It is greatly appreciated, as you can see by my registration for these forums just to thank the team.

By 'katana' you kana, right?
The centered text characters or the menus themselves? The menus are a little fun, since most are compressed. On top of that, most menu text is image-based.
Unfortunately, the stupid variable width font is not centered, which causes issues with everything that expects it to be. I'm probaly just going to rewrite the routine to be less stupid but use pretty much the same offsets (keeps everyone else's work smooth). There's a nifty trigger to switch between fixed and variable-width text, but all those latin letters are left aligned. Instead, I'll have to write a left-right offset table, then fiddle with those DL assembling routines some more.

Might help if I spent less time trying to hack Link into Goldeneye ;*) Oh well.
