the statement "Our government is elected for the people by the people" is ridiculously flawed. the last general election showed that bush only just got the vote. i cant remember the figures, but lets just say Bush got 51% and the other bloke got 49% (obviously im excluding a whole bunch of other parties). that means 49% of the population voted against Bush, and hence Bush is opposed by roughly half the nation (if indirectly). also the more a government peretuates patriotism, the less that government is questioned by that population (in most cases). sorry for being a bit off topic.

Well, sorta true. There were also the independent parties in that election, so the votes that werent for bush werent necessarily against him either, not only that but half the country doesn't even vote, and the last census showed that the majority of the country is more towards the republican party anyways.

To top that, the president doesn't have full power, in fact congress has more power. And as has always been for the past 200 years, the losing party always tends to play watchdog over the winning party's decisions, nit picking at everything they don't like to the press.

Honestly I believe separation of church and state is a truely good thing, no matter how hard you try to push it. If you allow religion to control any part of it, then you undermine freedom. The only reason religion wants control is because it believes that its beliefs should be practiced by everybody, which simply should not be the case.

even if u aint gonna post eagle, u obviously have no idea how i think about my own country. u dont need to tell me that germany was an evil fascist force in world war II and that hitler is the greatest madman in world history. i see that, anyone who doesnt is fucking blind or a fascist himself.
on top of that im an atheist. means i dont give a rats ass about god blessing my country. if ppl wanna be patriotic about their own country, so be it. i aint.

why the us govt is bad in my eyes is obvious: there is an imperialistic war going on right now which uses patriotism in the us for policial aims. "god bless america" may have a patriotic intention and be a good thing in principle (but so is chuch and u see what happens) but in reality we see that its used for political/nationalist reasons.

Therefore saying the government is "a part of the bad" is saying the same thing about the entire nation and all its people.

most ppl in the us govt (and in other countries, im not denying that) are part of an upper 2% who have the money. on top of that only about 40% of americans vote. so dont give me that shit, please. the thing about the ppl and govt is again a purely theoretical thing.

Eagle: why would the germans hold a grudge against america for WW2? It was pretty much britain who did all the work anyways, america just gave the final push and ender the war quicker the tide had already turned... add to that the fact that most germans i have met actually quite like the british and i think you're way off... and as for the bits about patriotism the guys above this psot pretty much summed up what i was thinking

Personally, I'm no commie, but I don't really see the point of countries as such. They breed hatred, nationalism and xenophobia. The only thing people should have alligence to is themselves.

People should grow up and realise that saying an oath or anything like that doesn't mean shit. All it could possibly give you is a false sense of security, and that is all it is - FALSE.
