  • Most issues reported these days stem from users not enabling their emulators to use the required amount of RAM.
We also tend not to use the search feature but post our issues within the texture pack release page.
Failure to load a texture pack should not be posted in the release thread unless you have already patched the emulator.

If you don't have the resources to use Large/HD texture packs please do not attempt to do so.
Users should have a minimum amount of System RAM not less then 4GB's.
If you have less then 4GB's of RAM do not post about how your emulator crashes,
RAM is dirt cheap so invest some money into your PC.

I would like to say thanks to squall_leonhart

@Chaoszerox I would prefer to stay where we are at the moment.
Also posting links to where roms are is also against the emutalk rules.

And as Toasty said, why not just post a patch for the ROM tho I reckon we should fix up all the alignment problems once we have completed the majority of the textures.

project 64 works with the zelda dubug rom...1964 emu v 0.9.9 does not....DD?

BTW I do actually legally own the 2 roms (OoT normal, OoT master quest), as I have them all for Gamecube. :p

EDIT:more natural snake-like shape for the snake's head

List of changes:

fixed the flame on the texture with 5 characters

In my opinion you have to be joking....do you look like Link ?! Lol.

Seriously guys, I've been following this thread for a while now and I have to commend you on your work, well done. I'm glad to see the latest texture work actually resembling much more a snake now than a ducks head lol. Nice work fellas! Looking forward to this one. :)

Welcome 323!
Nice to have you on board. I took a look at your video and first of: I think this deserves some respect because these facial animation textures are a pain to retexture. Also the color of the skin looks nice imo.
Actually I had exactly the same idea as you once. Replacing the face textures with a photo seemed very tempting.
Well the textures I did back then are not in the pack anymore - fortunately. People hated it and they were probably right. Back then I thought it looked pretty cool. I just took an eye here and a mouth there and I got something that looked like the little boy from the Munsters (It looked quite similar than yours).

To cut a long story short: That doesn't work out. I made several attempts but unless your 200% sure what you are doing (e.g. get the facial proportions right - you can't use the proportions of the manga shaped face) and get some good photo source for the face of an 8 to 10 year old (And I wouldn't want to ask 8 to 10 year old for a photo source of their face in the park ;)) it will always look really scary and wrong. Sorry it's hard to hear that after you put so much work in it

@chaoszerox
speaking of much work. You have surely put a lot of effort in this one textures. The shapes look really good and I suppose you did them with the pen tool which deserves an extra respect. Also you fixed the tiling - congrats!
On the other hand the colors definately need some work (especially the strong red around the diamond shape) Also the texture look extremely flat and the shapes do not blend in very well with the texture. I guess this is texture is suppossed to be a rug.
I could help you if you want. If you send me the psd i could help you to make it look a little more "real". This is a rug texture which i made for the temple of time. I'm still looking for the psd. If I find it I'll post it

I got ya!

But I mean why stick to the cartoony animation style when were making all the other textures look realistic it just doesnt look right having a toony character in a real looking world! In my opinion my eye textures look flawless not to bragg cough... lol but I do have one question for you mode 7 it may sound noobish but where exactly are the original textures of the ocarina of time game like what folder directory are they in I have been looking for them an I cant seem to find them anywhere... sigh...

The characters were all done by chieftan, so he diserves credit for those. Everything else I did.
If you can figure out how I did everything, sure lol I'll upload the PSDs and everything you'll need. It's an almost 20 MB 7 zip archive, so it'll take me an hour to upload, so I'll upload it sometime, most likely when I go to sleep tonight

and yes I made some of the shapes in illustrator

@ 323mb Can you use a bit more punctuation, you have a 50+ word sentence going there
also I advise this plugin, as it's the best and use the 1964 emu v 0.9.9

EDIT:looks like it took shorter than I thought it would to upload, here it is

@323mb great work but personally I think it is a bit to photo realistic and doesn't match the actual style of Links Eyes, I prefer the ones that we are currently using in the texture pack. Otherwise great job.

@Chaoszerox brilliant work its almost pretty much perfect but Mode7 is right that the colours do need some work.
I will add it to the pack for now :)

@everyone Keep up the great work!
One note to all texture's this project isn't meant to be photo-realistic since It generally doesn't end up looking to great in game.

To be honest pal when I first saw it I thought you were trolling.....I appreciate now that your heart is in the right place on this but I agree with mode7 but I can also see your point of view....to be honest the best thing all around is probably proper cell shading especially for the main character but the old Orkin thing is as old as the hills and as dead as the dodo sadly. So the next best thing is realism and mimicked cell shade - both to a point! After all this is not nor will ever be Crysis so there is such a thing as too realistic when retexturing these games. Balancing act. Get it right and it looks fantastic, get it wrong and it doesn't fit the game. IMO.

About the photorealistic discussion: A lot of people think this pack is meant to look photo realistic or like twillight princess (go to zeth's pack for that, if you want to see some textures out of place).
Well my account was always: stick to the original. I love OoT and have deep respect for its artists. I rather try to recreate the original than to start with a "I can do it better" attitude. I only use photos because its a quick way to get good results and it look more organic compared to some of the procedural produced textures many games use today. Still photos and "photo realistic" is not the same thing and its rarely enough to just put an photo on the texture.

...of course there are always exceptions.

@Chaos: I'm currently taking a look at your textures. Always interesting how different people work in photoshop. E.g. I rarely use adjustment layers, while you use them a lot. On the other hand you hardly use any blending effects which I use all the time.
I'll make some changes and send it back so you can have a look and tell me what you think.

OK I'm done with the square. I'll type in some annotations of what i did so you can you can comprehend what I changed and will upload it tomorrow.
The only mayer change was the underlying texture which I changed to a rug texture. I also added some subtle blending effects and changed some colors using the color overlay in the blending effects. Added an effect on the layer masks to make the edges seem more rough. At last I made some color adjustments to get closer to the original.
Everything else is unchanged or based on your original material.

@mode7 I like your explanation of how i want the project running :p
Also nice work on making chaoszerox's texture but before I make a actual judgment I would love to see them in game.

@death droid: Well i can only talk for myself ;)

About chaos' texture: Well I don't have a possibility to load it in game and I don't want to. After all it's only a suggestion how he can get much better results without much work. He has to decide if he uses any of these.

@323mb:

The problem isn't 1964, it's the texture pack. The program was getting hung up trying to load a texture because it was in the pack TWICE. In fact, there are a few textures that are duplicated:

THE LEGEND OF ZELDA#DB033A18#4#0_all.png
THE LEGEND OF ZELDA#0C2E0585#0#2_all.png
THE LEGEND OF ZELDA#3FB7A218#0#2_all.png <--this one is in there 4 times--twice as the original texture.

I had that problem earlier. Did you just download the pack off the first post?

@D--D: Any chance you can fix this? I don't see a new pack coming out anytime soon (unless you know something I don't), and in the meantime, it would be nice if people could actually see our progress from the current pack.

@Mode: Any chance you can upload the PSD of your carpet texture? I would really like to look at the layers and stuff, for educational purposes--I've been trying to figure out a way to do a realistic carpet/rug-like texture, and this is the closest I've seen.

@Chieftain459 that is all fixed the multiple textures up in the new pack just need more actual content :p.
Tho i may for the sake of it release a new version on the 20th or the 30th but that all depends on how much new content there is :)
Oh yeah how was your couple of days out in the country!

Anyway everyone keep up the awesome work, it is really starting to come together nicely with some good collaboration!
