This system is going to be AWESOME. For people who like to 'hack' especially. You think playing SNES on the PSP was cool? Imagine what kind of homebrew apps are possible with an entire OS running under the hood.

And the games! Oh man, the games... can you imagine how GOOD the games will look in the coming years? I imagine that squareenix is going to create some of the most insane CG ever witnessed on a HDTV.

You have no way of knowing that, the PSP is loaded with DRM and those firmware updates, Sony already said that the PS3 will go the same way.

I understand you are hyping PS3 but the other options are as god as the PS3 and you may have both options for the price of the PS3, i also know that we (geeks) will most likely have all three but the majority of ppl will buy only one, have no interest on the whole blu-ray vs HD-DVD war and the ones that already have an X360 will prolly not buy another console, let alone the most expensive of all.

EDIT: Funny thing is that you only mentioned gaming in the end of the post and no title is hyped, only "what could be", pretty weird fo a gaming console.

I don't want a home media center! I want a GAME console.
Yeah, showing off big pictures... big deal. You can even use Revolution for that, and it's MUCH cheaper. The Xbox 360 can do it too... no big deal.
The PSP? Don't make me laugh... I don't have a PSP, and honestly, I don't see why you'd use a PSP to show off your pictures. Isn't it more common to use something called a "Digital Camera"?

You can surf with the Revolution... (and the Xbox 360?) Plus it'll probably be much easier with a wiimote than a stupid controller to do it.
Blu-ray movies? Don't make me laugh here... Who is to say blu-ray isn't going to FLOP like UMD crap? Besides, DVD is fine for me. Good enough quality. And oh wait! I already have a DVD Player! Goodness!
Homebrew stuff is for the computer. It's much better at that.
...And come on, Linux? Do you think you can run Wine on that? I don't believe so, since Cell is x86 and thus most programs won't be compatible. Best use the PC and Windows...

Never owned nor will own a PSP. I dare say that the DS games I have is good enough for me and I don't need SNES. But there are always old classics re-released for GBA...

Linux isn't very compatible and programming for Cell isn't exactly easy... Companies are struggling with it, so why should homebrew be different? I don't think Sony included an OS for homebrew stuff...

CG looks fine enough to me nowadays and I don't see why we should upgrade 'em. We don't need HDTV crap. EDTV is fine.

You are just the type Sony wants. You are snared in their web. They will FOOL you. They make you pay THOUSANDS for things you won't ever need or can get elsewhere.
Blu-ray? Come on! Seriously! DVD is plenty, why do we need Blu-ray? And what if it FLOPS?! Oh no! And what about the price? Is it truly worth it?

You have no way of knowing that, the PSP is loaded with DRM and those firmware updates, Sony already said that the PS3 will go the same way.

It will not interfere with your attempt to compile Quake 3 and get some frags
PS3 will be bundled with Yellow Dog Linux so it will work just like any other PowePC workstation. Games will be well protected of course (but as usual it's only matter of time before PS3 will be cracked - hackers are at least as smart as Sony developers ).

I gotta agree with tye_stik, and yes i'm a sony fanboy and a final fantasy fanboy and a suikoden fanboy, and a RPG fanboy.

I just plainly love RPG's and on that kind of games Sony has always ruled.

There is nothing wrong with being a fanboy/fangirl, but this thread just takes the price... the PS3 is so overrated.
RPGs have simple come to Sony's consoles because it dominated the market. Therefore quality RPGs have come to the PS2 and PS. We shall see if they all end up on the PS3 this time around...

With all these potential hacks, I just love it how people dont realize that the arcetecture of the PS3 is so hard to program stuff for, that it wont be like the PSP hacks.

If the PS3 is Power PC compatible (Which it might be, help me out here) than that means that most of the hacks will be for Power PC, and can be just as easily done on the Xbox 360, or the Wii.

The PS3 is just too expensive, and has too many useless features that just arent worth spending the extra $200

As for homebrew stuff... your right about how difficult it will be to figure out how to direct the Cells awesomeness, but I'm sure some basement geek will figure it out and blog the shit out of it.

Over hyped as in it's hyped for all its useless functionality that I don't need and I have to PAY for. Overrated because they rate all these functions as "good" or something while they really aren't. Blu-ray movies, anyone? How many are there? Is it going to flop? There is no point in rating it yet, yet it IS rated and adds to the "rated" factor of the PS3.

Gah. Coolness factor?! What are you, a geek? I don't need a coolness factor! I want to play games, I purchase a game console. If I want to listen to music, I purchase a music player or mp3 player. You're feeling overconfident. The Cell is difficult to develop for and it's going to always be difficult. This doesn't mean it can't be done or that it won't be done, it just means that developers aren't going to be too happy. And maybe they'll release poorer software with more bugs because of the complicated design.

This isn't truly a source. Sony's game may cost that much, but what about 3rd parties? And what if we get another "Grand Turismo 3 Scheme"?

Graphics? Whatever. TP is pretty fancy, isn't it? And it sure is enough to me. I don't even have an HDTV! And I don't want the friggin' money to get one either. And yet, if you want a PS3, Sony urges that you "must" get a HDTV. Right... and what about those people who can't afford it? What's the news about that console, then, if not HD?
No, the PS3 is bloated, buggy, overrated and over hyped. I need only to play games, dammit! I don't want that other stuff. If I would, I'd get a media machine. Furthermore, I don't fancy something that draws power like a PC or more (which is probably what Sony's PS3 will do).

I've heard a rumor that the Playstation world is falling apart, that it used to be great back then, but other video gaming industries are surpassing it. Playstation has become a thing of the past, while Microsoft and Nintendo are developing differently.

I even know a user who got ****ed off and felt like Playstation him ripped him off and he gave up with Playstation's consoles. I even heard that Sony delayed the PS3 by three months in Europe.

I do agree in the fact that sony risking much with those prices, but we still don't know how it will affect the sales.

Right now the company that is on the right track is Nintendo, because they are focusing more on the games that on shiny HD stuff and unnecessary features.

I'm only telling you what I heard, not what I believe. I don't own a Playstation console, and I never touched one. I don't even remember what one looks like.

People say the PSX world is falling apart because of signs before the release of PS3 and things they already know about the PS3 before its future release. For example, that user who started this thread went on about viewing pictures on your TV screen via your PS3, when you can really do that with Xbox 360 and in more advanced ways.

Anyway, I hardly have any more opinion to a console I don't know very much about, but this is what I've seen users on another forums website (can't say name because ROMs in it) say about it:

You Didnt have to incorporate blu-ray, you are sony. You could have made your own hydbrid high capacity disc specially for the PS3, and saved moneyt on the price to the customer, you cant deny it! Sega Made 1+GB CDs for the Dreamcast, Nintendo made GB sized mindiscs, and it saved money on both systems. Not to metion BOTH are not copyable with a PC CD or DVD rom Drive, unlike EVERY disc you have sold for with a video game on it since you started.

And HDMI?! yeah, its great, I'll give you that, But, It has already been made clear by game developers, that the games being reelased will not be running on 1080p or 1080i , so what's the point? The controllers do suck, at least for PS1. Use them for a while and the analog sticks stop functioning.

Sony isn't doing well lately, a lot of their products R called back because there's something wrong with it. I call 7 million laptop/notebook batteries as an example. Sony"$ old days, where everything which carried the name PlayStation turned into gold R over. People have woke up now, and see that Sony products R not as good as they seem......

My first argument would be "Why do you care?" if you hate the PS3 so much, why do you care if it's delayed?

Second, the price tag. What? the system is going to last forever...let's break this down. PS3-$600, Xbox360-$350-400.
PS3- Free online, 360-$70. 360- Seperate Hard Drive, Price - N/A. See...not that much of a difference.(Wait for a price drop even...no rush!)
I hate how people say the games are getting expensive too, there maybe $60.00
The SNES had games that were around $50,60,70,80,90, heck i've seen 100. Yet it still sold very, very well.
No matter how much you complain, the PS3 will sell very well for $600 and you know it.

And finally, it's all about the developers. You can have the best jacked up system with HDTV and Blue-Ray, Hard Drives and Innovation, but what happens when developers don't take advantage of these features?
Developers like "Ubisoft" worked very hard to create great games. They took advantage of all the features, made it fun and created a great experience. That's what made the systems sell so well, if you had a system with crappy games who just sped things through..the system will fail.
It all comes down to the developers, the system is just one step.

The PS3 will do great. They have a very good line-up of games, a very nice system and a price that'######### a $100 difference from the 360.
Lets see, about 5 or 6 of you people hate the PS3, and your reasons are poor. Your just basically saying the same thing over and over again. "Price Tag" and "HDTV"...your bashing the hell out of those subjects. I for one am not a PS3 fan-boy, I love the other consoles and hope to get them too...just take it easy, play the system, try some games and then write a review.

P.S- I'm not precise on the price tag, but if you put it in terms like I did...it might not seem so expensive. Don't pick on one clumsy mistake and add-on to it like "OMG, The price tag is so not that less...or HDTV does matter!"

Xbox Live Silver is free actually, you can download demos get updates and chat, you only need live gold if you plan on playing playing certain games online. the 360 price tag is $299.99 for the core $399.99 for the bundle, you get about $50 worth of free stuff in the bundle like a headset, ethernet cable, month of xbox live gold, and a wireless controller. The PS3's price tag is $499.99 for the 20 gig stripped model and $599.99 for the 60 model which will have full functionality. I'm actually with Iceman though, I'm not put off by the PS3, I think it actually has a nice assortment of games and features, It's what sony thinks about its consumers that has me put off.

Actually, the 360 is getting a $100 price drop this Christmas, and Sony is actually full of ****. They made a "price comparison" which made the 360 almost twice as much as the PS3, and the Wii almost as much. Because they think gamers are "required to use online play and wireless controllers".

The full version of Gran Turismo HD is $400, you get a game with no cars or tracks, and you have to buy them all online seperately. Around a dollar each for cars and around 4 dollars for tracks.
Sony will only survive this generation because of chavs and jocks buying it just because it's Sony and they're like "zOMG GRAFFIKZ". Even though the graphics are almost the same on the 360, and the Nintendo system, despite not having as good graphics, so they say, always has better design and artwork.

None of the companies are actually using the extra space provided by Blu-Ray, because the games are multi-platform and are limited to the HD-DVD space. Only one game has actually used more space than provided on a HD-DVD, and that's because Sony ordered them too, so it takes up about 20gig space and up to a minute and a half loading screens, brilliant.

Nintendo and Microsoft have gimmicks too, but do you want to know the difference between the consoles? Unlike the PS3, the extra features for the Wii and 360 don't increase the console price.

Want more Sony bashing? How about how games only work on the first system they're played on? Once you play it on your PS3, it wont work anywhere else, no rentals, no pre-owned games, sucks, huh?
Anything else? How about the fact that Sony has made importing PS3 games illegal? Looks like we have to wait for the official dates, that are delayed in Europe.

And more bashing about stuff nobody cares about? The boxes don't fit in DVD cases, and have a huge ugly BLURAY logo at the top.
