I'd say that the potential for games on the PS3 far exceeds that of the Xbox360. It will be up to the publishers to define who will win in the console wars... but if they can utilize the PS3 to its full potential the results will be amazing. 'nuff said.
Well dont forget about how hard the cell processor is to program. If a game developing company really would take in, and see who Sony really is, and what kind of stuff they have done to their customers, do you think they should go so far, as to program a game for the PS3? If you were a game developer, would you work your butt off to work for a company like Sony?

I certainly won't get a PS3 at lauch (seriously, anyone who does that has a few screws loose) but will eventually get one because of Devil May Cry 4, Metal Gear Solid 4 and Final Fantasy XIII.

Kind of expected in a way since I got a PS2 because of Devil May Cry, Metal Gear Solid 2 and Final Fantasy X.

If I were a company, as long as the console is popular and makes money it means cash in my pocket :p

Right, let's take a look at how POWER it draws. It's a whopping 380 WATTS! That's about 2 times the amount of Xbox 360 (160 WATT).
...And you know what? I've been keeping tabs on how much my computer draws. Well, it's about 250 Watt.
What does this tell us? Sony is trying to ruin us and so are Microsoft. Truly sorry, but you've both screwed yourself over.

My computer is 300 watt, but I cant beleive that it uses all that.

The GC is 39 watts, and judging by the size of the Wii, I cant imagine it being much more. The Wii will go on standby, but that probably wont use much power. Just enough to keep the bios clock running, the wifi running (which is about the power of a strong LED) and to do idle processes.

The processor is also running in standby. It'll probably use less than the GC, I agree.

Wait a second... PS3 draws 380W from PSU (380W PSU) or it draws 380W from AC (~1kW PSU) ?
If it's the first, well, it's a lot but nothing unusual as PS3 have same specs as modern PCs, if it's the second then some Sony's engineers require help from qualified psychiatrist.

As explained, at its maximum peak, the PS3 consumes 380 watts. And as you remember, the PSU for a console can be specialized to provide the exact amount of power the console needs. There's no need for 800 watt PSUs on consoles, if they can only draw 380 watt.

That means it draws up to 380 watt / hour, while a computer (like mine), draws about 200 - 280 watt / hour.

UPDATE:
Games start eating away your PS3 HDD space: about 4-5 GB of space per game. How many games do you typically have? That's right, plenty. So, you can choose to install the game, waiting about 3 minutes or so for it to off-load about 4-5 GB of data to your HD, and then start playing with little loading timees, or you can just stand with the loading times.
What? You bought the budget model with only a 20 GB HD? Well, too bad! Get used to loading times!
Oh, but this means you'll have to do repeated installations because there's no way you'll fit all your games on the HD at once. Remember, we're talking about HD here? Blu-ray? 20 GB of data at least? Oh yeah, that means you can't use it as a multimedia machine, either, because you'll likely to have no space left after installing games.
Way to go, Sony.

Ooooh, PS3 scams are appearing! Watch out so you don't get tricked into spending a money on something that doesn't exist!

That Damn Good
There is nothing wrong with load times. If you are that impatient then find something to do while it loads. I mean loading usually doesn't take more than a minute anyways.

Damn you, damn you! Loading times are evil! Your kind must be purged! You must be a Sony fan-person. Sony makes loading times. They never do away with loading times. They hack and slash and use workarounds, but it never works!
You scare me :( Get away from me! The future is no loading times! Don't you dare say anything else! Sony and Microsoft be damned! Hail Nintendo!

WHY THE PS3 pwns all

The brand

There was a time when 'Nintendo' was synonomous with console gaming, but times have changed and 'PlayStation' has taken that throne. Microsoft made some strides in that department with the XBOX, but Sony, on the global scale, still holds the chains. Selling over 100 million machines twice is an amazing feat for any console developer. Do NOT underestimate the power of a brand name.

The competition

The PS2 OUTSOLD the XBOX360 six out of the seven months since its launch. 'Nuff said . The PS2 is 6 YEARS old... it has consistently outsold this so-called 'next-gen' console. The 360's flagship titles will almost all be delivered in equal or better quality on the PS3, many of them right at launch. Not to mention all the games only available to the PlayStation... Metal Gear, Final Fantasy (*drool), Devil May Cry, Virtua Fighter, Gran Turismo...

The samurai

Japan. Land of the video games. The original XBOX did fine in North America and Europe, but it was an utter failure in Japan. The XBOX 360 continues to struggle in the land of the rising sun. What kind of launch party has consoles left over? Not a fuckin' PLAYSTATION launch party, not in Japan anyway, hell no. An army of squinty eyed, fanatically dressed, Japanese gamers will line up for DAYS in anticipation for PS3 launch.

The ray of blue

Blu-Ray will make a difference. It may fail as a movie format, but the amount of space available for software developers to use will allow for huge enviroments with amazing detail. Microsoft can compete for awhile with fancy compression techniques, but in the end, the extra space in Blu-Ray discs will hold some of the greatest, most epic scenes you've ever witnessed. Believe it. When developers start combining the Blu-Ray medium and the Cell processors to their fullest potential, games will have reached a new level of awesomeness and the PS3 by that time will no longer be $500.

The internetzorz

Free online. This is something I heartely admire. In the age of successful subscription based MMORPGS, Sony continues to deliver free online. I have said it countless times, I will not pay for a game I've already bought. When I boot that shit up, it better damnwell give me the whole of its existence without me pulling out my credit card. If anything, this tells fans of PlayStation, " Here you go guys, have fun". What a pat on the back. It almost makes a tear run down my face.

I consider your insignificant banter SPAM. I thought this compilation of facts deserved its own thread. I see some thought otherwise.

And I couldn't care less what you consider; This forum is for everyone not just for you or me, so quit double posting threads. That is considered forum spam.

Damn Sony fanboy. You're pretty much just spewing nonsense. You can't give credit to ANYTHING but Sony's PS3 and Sony. See the Light, dude, they're MILKING you for money.

Give me a break...
Yes, the PS2 won. So what? Why did it win? Because of the DVD format. Cartridges were expensive to produce and not so easy. It scared the developers off that was there from the SNES era.
...And when the games flock to one console, then what? That console becomes supreme. Everybody knows playstation because it had the most games. Thus everyone bought it and the stores trended to tell the PS2 and tell people to buy it. Easy enough.
Don't count of the brand.
The Revolution, or Wii, has a lot of pre-orders. And guess what? There are a lot of orders from non-gamers or CASUAL gamers! Wow! Yet, Nintendo had lost their big brand?

Dude, again, the PS2 is older, more well known and has a bigger game library. No wonder.

Quit your whining. Xbox 360 is an outsider to the Japanese people and the Japanese are more likely to side with their own companies who makes consoles, aka Nintendo and Sony. That's why it doesn't do well. And guess what? They're also flocking to the Revolution!

Blu-ray will fail. It's too new and it will break too often. When new generation of PS3s comes with a proper Blu-ray drive, I'll accept it more.

Online may be free, but they WILL find other ways to take away your money. Oh, be so sure.

As I wrote, your Sony love is clouding your view. The world isn't just black and white. Grow up, travel the world and see if it with your own eyes.
And I can't see a fekking power-sucking machine such as the PS3 to be the "true" machine. Sony needs to do something about that power drain. Period.
It just shows how badly designed the PS3 is. They've just slapped in everything there and hope it works. Damn idiots.
