This is by far the strangest. An unused pedestal and two tektites in the water. Very glitchy area not very playable. There are also 2 jabu jabu models inside one another, though you cant see that in this shot. Ask Gent, my late hours of beta quest exploring and documenting left him bitter against beta. :saddam: :teehee:

Whoa!!!!!! That is creepy HHmmm....
Yo cool you cant get us a better screenshot of that?
2 jabus inside each other
cooliscool
December 21st, 2003, 15:09
Sure. Using the specific things lean code, you can walk around in this area without having to worry about crashing. Most likely because the plane that the f'd up are was on is now leaning up (or down) somewhere. You can see the 2 jabu's fine, aswell. I've got an old beta thread which had some even more weird jabu-jabu shots I made, somewhere. I'll dig it up. :P :bouncy:

pardon my stupidity, but just what the hell is beta quest, is it master quest? or is it a beta version of the zelda game
cooliscool
December 21st, 2003, 21:27
It's basically a modifier which throws you into a scrambled cutscene, in which the exits lead to "beta" areas, or sometimes areas which run on a different engine version and are calling on the old one (in this case it will freeze, most likely with a TLB error on load/store) In short, it's a way to access lost OoT stuff which we'd never be able to see elsewhere.
It starts you off somewhere in Hyrule field (with no buttons present, no navi, and no history of anything accomplished) where each exit from there has a different effect. I found a code which keeps the buttons and interface off and modified it for a reverse effect. If you want the interface in the beta quest, enter this code into PJ64:
Zelda OoT V1.0 (U)
8011B4B9 00FF
8011B92F 0000
If you need it to stay off, then enter this:
Zelda OoT V1.0 (U)
8011B4B9 00FF
8011B92F 0001
Only activate it when you're in the beta area that you need the interface. Activate the code, then press start. :phone:

How are you guys able to get that far into the beta-worlds. Most of time I try to go somewhere, it freezes.

Heh.. yep. Master Quest is basically the same with some different exit locations and alot more crashes. ;)
MM simply puts you in an area (or cutscene) and you play around in it.. I searched it for hours and found nothing different from the final version, except some invisible ground behing some walls etc.. but that's in the final ver. too. :( :yucky:

and then youl end up in hyrule feild and the explore???
Yep. There are alot of different combinations of codes to get to a "successful" beta area. To get to the funkified Jabu Jabu, use "01" as the last two digits of the beta quest code. Go to Zora's fountain, but don't enter thru the river. You'll see jabu jabu and the ocarina pedestal, but don't walk around much.. it'll crash with nothing sent to the debugger, which is really strange. :shaun:
Here's a shot of the castle w/o the torches and bridge. :) I'll post alot more beta shots today aswell, so stay tuned. :bounce:

December 25th, 2003, 23:35
Another version of buggy beta jabu jabu. Weird lighting, no ocarina pedestal, 2 tektites. There is also still 2 jabus inside each other, but if I put on the specific things lean code to see it, they look really weird.. and most people here know how badly jabu jabu freaks me out. ;) To get here follow the above process with "02" as the last two digits. :sombrero:

Cooliscool, I'm really amazed by what you have achieved by exploring the beta quest world. Some time ago I've tried to go 'into' the ending and walk around but instead I end up getting stuck and just 'looking' at the people that celebrate etc.
Maybe it's possible for you to write a guide how to exactly go to places you visited? It would be cool but it's just a request hehe. Anyway, cool stuff.

Use beta quest world 7 (16). Use the Appear in Strange Places (D01C84B5 0010
8111B936 0001) code. Walk to Lon Lon ranch, and as you enter, hold down R. Keep it held untill you see the dancers. You'll be able to roam around freely. :)

This is pretty cool...I messed around with the beta quest a little bit before. I don't suppose you can do this on a real N64 can you? There is a limit on how many gameshark codes you use...

Yes, you can, but some codes may have a slightly different effect, or some beta things you'll see via an emu may require a different method on the cartridge. (I know I've used this 1000 times, but it's the strangest thing in beta) Jabu-Jabu in world 01.. you can explore via the Specific things lean code via rom. The specific things lean code has no effect on the actual cart. This is because of how precisely things work.. one little difference in emulation will do that.
LOL sheik124, you remind me of me when I was a n00b to beta. So excited over the minor things.
Farore: to get here, use beta quest 00, and the Appear in strange places code (I also recommend L to levitate). Go to the normal Kokiri Forest entrance via Hyrule Field. Hold down R as you enter. You'll appear out in the void in Kokiri Forest. Float back into the Arena, then go to the Deku Tree. You'll see a big ass Farore, rotating. Exactly like Nayru, as I explained in the guide. It's not possible to see Din alone, unfortunately..
