How do I get the game to keep sort of checkpoints throughout the game. Everytime I turn it off and then return, it starts me out in my House in the beginning of the game. I have everything, but I have to run all the way across Hyrule. It's a pain. How do I fix this?! If there is evern a way...

The game is designed this way. It starts you at your house, or at a dungeon entrance if you happen to be in one when you save. As was mentioned you can use states to save (and return) anywhere you want, be bare in mind that states are easily corrupted, so don't relay on them solely.
