?????????????????????????
Well no let's see...if oot overrated? Yes, it is!
I'll even tell you why! My, I 'm nice today! ;)
Here's the list of which i prefer in line:

Zelda2: Link's Adventure (NES)
Zelda3: A Link to the past (SNES)
Zelda1 (NES)
Zelda5 (Ocarina of Time) (N64)
Zelda6 (Majora's Mask) (N64)

I haven't played wind waker (gc) or link's awakening (gameboy) so i can't comment on those. Now then, why is the list currently as it is? What makes the first game, zelda2, so special? Simple.

First off, it's a side-scroller, which makes it more fun because you can jump, block and stuff and it's harder than from overview that zelda1 and 3 has. The RPG style and magics were cool, too! But zelda64 (zelda5) didn't have overview, so why isn't it placed further up? I'll come back to that later, so wait...

Anyway, zelda3 beats zelda1 slightly because of its richness. You know, all the tools, the storyline, the upgrades...but zelda1 has better music (i just love retro! if it were for me, i'd rip out the modern music in modern games and add retro music!) and a HUGE world! But they were using the overview, which makes it kindof easier and not so fun...you couldn't jump, you didn't have to block stuff by crunching and stuff. That's why these ones get a lower score!

How about oot then? Why is it bad? Well! Mainly because of the Z-Target ability. Using it, Link always faces his enemy and just have to raise the shield to block and attack...no challenge at all! This is way too easy! And at that, while having z-target on an enemy makes all the other enemies wait until you drop it or put it on them instead! So what could be done to make it better? I'm sure they couldn't remove Z-target...

well, perhaps they could make the z-target target the enemy so you can use like arrows (it's really easy to people at close distance, but having to aim takes too long, so that's ok), however, it shouldn't be possible for fighting...so, perhaps you take out your bow and choose a target with z-targeting (close range only) would be better! It should be more designed to move freely, to defend freely from any direction (crouch, air-blows, etc) and jumping and best of all - many sword techniques! The enemies should have, too, that just makes it more intresting! And enemies should keep on coming, so you won't just fight one. The thing is that you should actually be able to run around and fight them with the sword--many sword techniques. While avoiding some and blocking, etc...doesn't it sound great? That's what zelda2 had: more freedom.

As for zelda6, the storyline here plainly sucked, but in overall it was better than oot. It hasn't been my favorite game for it...i despise the storyline, but the gameplay, dungeons, etc...they were all better!

I hope I didn't bore you with all this...
what's your comment on all this? Why is oot your favorite game? Highly overrated i say it is...what do you think? Tell me!

Well, I know OoT probably better than anyone, as I've fully completed the game, twice and I'm playing GC Ocarina of Time right now (I got bored of Wind Waker, so I re-started OoT) I bought the game originally on its release date (December 18th 1998 I believe) and have been playing the game ever since in one form or another. Perhaps upwards of 500 hours? I've played all the Zelda's apart from the first two on the NES. Too young for those

If the Z-Target was removed, the game would be almost impossible. How would you longshot the nucleus boss in the water temple without Z-Targeting? Impossible and frustrating manually aiming it. And how could you parry attacks, do defensive rolls etc. It just wouldn't work. The Z-Target system was a good thing, I feel, made great use of the N64 controller.

In the 2D games all you did was press the B button to give a swipe and hold to charge, and that was it. A link to the Past is easier than OoT, because the dungeons are much shorter, and there were hardly any side quests (Thankfully they put loads of diversions in Link's Awakening like the trading, fishing, which then appeared in OoT :) )

The Z-Targeting gives more freedom, and a more diverse range of moves. I don't normally Z-Target anyway, apart from fighting mini-bosses and bosses, as I get the Biggoron's Sword as soon as I turn adult, and its so massive that you usually hit enemies.

If its so overated, then why have so many people at emutalk put it as their favourite game? The game was in the Guiness Book of Records for having the most preorders. Nothing I've played has given me more fun than OoT. But then that's just my opinion

Is Zelda OoT overrated?
Yes, yes, and a thousands times more yes. Now, before every Link fanboy around this board (and god knows there are many of those here) starts to flame, I'm not saying that the game is shit, because it isn't. But is it worth the perfect 10 scores that most game sites has given to it? Hell no.

at the time of being given those 10.0 scores it was the best game to come out at that time, and it remained beyound reproach for a long time, finally only suffering because of the N64 itself, and you're oh so in the minority if you disagreed, but there were a vocal amount of fan boys bemoaning the loss of the feel of the SNES game (which is an overrated installment imo)

if TOOT was released today granted it wouldn't get a 10.0 and I don't think WW should have gotten as high a score as it did recently because there's too much fucking sailing, and it lacks the charm TOOT had

Right.

There is something about the zelda games that draws you in, more than any other RPG ive played.

I spent a month playing it (OOT) non stop with my little brother over xmas when it first came out.

I have to say it was the best gaming experience i have ever had, seriously.

Me and my brother still talk fondly of it.

It was the experience rather than the nuts and bolts of the game that mattered.

If a game can make me feel like that, i would have to say it is pretty damn good.

Are ppl bitching because it does not play as good now, on the GC with its controller.

If they are, well, fine, but it will be my favourite game until the next comes along.

Could it be bettered?

I would hope so, becuase i want more great gaming experiences.

Do i want to discuss the marking system for games?

No, they are arbitrary, subjective, innacurate, and as with all scoring (top tens, best ofs, and all that shite), an attempt at refication (look it up) of the untangible.

Anyway, where are them pissing bombs in master quest? Dont answer!

Back to it

I think it's probably for the best if I refrain from posting in this thread. :getlost:

ZELDA IS NOT AN RPG. .

I think Zelda OoT is overrated for different reasons than most people, oh well.

Overrated: yes. Bad game: No. (I suppose both depend solely upon whom you ask, so this is just my opinion :getlost: )

The graphics are pretty decent for an N64 game, even though the older Link is rather polygonish. I still like the game better than most other Zelda games besides the SNES ones, though. The game has an all around awesome storyline and even if it isn't that difficult, the puzzles and enemies are still much harder than they are in Windwaker and Majora's Mask. I still think it is the best all around game for the n64...
