Zelda: Ocarina of Time Crashed, and I didn't save

I was about an hour and 1/2 into Zelda: Ocarinia of Time, and it crashed. And I didn't save, because I don't know how (I'm new to emulation. New as in I discovered it today.)

So, 3 questions:

1) Is there a way (using cheats or otherwise) to start the game from where I left off. I don't care if the name isn't the same, or if I have less rupees or w/e, as long as I'm back at the top of the Deku Tree.

2) How DO I save using Project 64?

3) Should I be using a different emulator for this game?

Thanks

1. Not that I know of. The only way for you is to get a save file, but even then the save will put you at the entrance of the Deku Tree (this is how OoT works). Of course, you could also get someone to give you a savestate that was saved atthe top of the Deku Tree, but there's always a chance that it might not work as expected.

2. You can either use normal in-game saves (by going tothe Pause men and selecting Save (preferable) or savestates (less preferable) by saving with F5 and loading with F7. Save states literally save a 'state' of the emulator so you'll continue exactly from the point where you saved a state. Savestates can go bonkers and screw up your game in some occasions, so I wouldn't recommend relying just on those to save your progress.

3. Depends on your preference. Project64 isn't the only good N64 emulator.

I think there are at least two "checkpoints" in dungeons. There's one at least before a boss room to my knowledge.

No. If you start a saved game just before the boss' door the game will load in the entrance of the temple.
My saved states file loads at Link's house :D
