What's new

Zelda: MM --> low framerate in cutscenes

I've posted this question at another forum some time ago, but nobody could help me, so I'll try here. I hope somebody can help me out here.

Here's the thread:

First post:
I'm playing Majora's Mask with Project64 1.5 at the moment, and it works fine, except that during scenes like the cutscene that get when wearing the Deku mask, the framerate drops from about 60 to 20. When using Project64 1.4 the cutscenes keep their high framerate, but the top of the screen is gone (and during gameplay the bottom of the screen is gone too). Is there a way to use version 1.5 but without the drop in framerate?

My specs:
AMD AthlonXP1700+ 1,47GHz
nVidia GeForce 3 ti200
512 MB DDR-RAM (2100)
SB Audigy player

Answer:
You might want to try disabling Advanced Block Linking. You sem to have a fast enough computer to disable it anyways

Second Post:
Thanks, but it doesn't work. I've now tried changing just about every setting, but nothing seems to work...

I've tried to change every setting in the "Advanced" and "ROM Settings" tabs. In The 1.5 video plugin I've tried turning off Anisotropic filtering and Sort Independent Anti-Aliasing. Tried different resolutions. Tried changing the Buffer Display Mode... Still haven't seen the slightest change in framerate. In the Advanced tab of the plugin I've tried checking every box seperately, but the only two that seem to change something are "Update less frequently" and "Use low resolution updates" (if both are checked, framerate during cutscenes becomes about 30 or 40, but the cutscene itself is not showing at all... just a black screen). The only option that really keeps the framerate high enough (50+) is unchecking Self Rendered Textures in the Rom Setting tab.

Am I missing any options here? I really don't understand this... framerate's fine in every other game I've tried.

Third Post:
Oh great... I just got to the part in the game where you get the lens of truth... Framerate drops as soon as I try to use it. Disabling Self Rendered Textures keeps the framerate high, but now I've got a new problem... The only thing I see when using the Lens of Truth is the swamp and the back of Deku-Link... When turning on Wireframe Rasterization I can see the hidden stuff. I have no idea how, but at some point it suddenly worked fine, but as soon as I entered another area I saw the swamp again... Is this a known bug or is it just me??

Got no answers after this... can anybody on this forum help me here?

?????????????????????????
What plugin are you using? Afaik, the low f ramerate with the self-rendered textures is a known issue, and cannot be fixed unless they are disabled.

when exactly does it slow down? the changing-mask sequence only lasts seconds and can be skipped

I'm using Jabo Direct3D 6 v1.5. When using Direct3D 7 v1.4 the framerate stays high, but the bottom of my screen disappears (half the map, clock and amount of rupees).

It happens in cutscenes like wearing a mask or taking it off. It also happens at cutscenes where you've defeated a boss or when u play the inverted song of time, or double time or the song of soaring. When the framerate drops, the cutscenes seem blurry.

I can live with the drop in framerate in these cutscenes, but it's kinda hard using the lens of truth, because the only way I see anything is with the wireframes on.

If there is a way to keep the bottom of the screen with the 1.4 plugin I can just use that one...

i must be terminally stupid or something, cos i don't see a slowdown in any of those cases. default settings.

Actually, I think my computer is terminally stupid... I haven't seen this issue anywhere on any forum, so it must be some stupid configuration on my pc... too bad I have no idea what that is. My comp is fast enough, so what am I doing wrong?! Default settings just don't work for some reason...

But apart from the slowdown... is the Lens of Truth problem a common issue or am I the only one with that too?

Well, that proves that I've done SOMETHING wrong with configuring my pc and/or project64... oh well... I'll just have to live with it now. I'm not going to reinstall everything just for this game to work better.

Got the newest nVidia drivers and FSAA/Aniso are off (and turning them on doesn't change anything).

Toggle Use Self-Rendered Textures (can't remember if it should be on or off)

Also turn off all Frame Buffer Emulation.

Great, the Lens of Truth works fine now, thanks!

Cutscenes still don't work properly, but I can live with that.

Stupid thing is that I've got a N64 with Majora's Mask here, but I just like it better to use my pc than the N64... and the save state function is VERY cool of course. Still, all these problems I'm having aren't really necessary.

Another Majora's Mask Question....

Ay-yo, when I start playing Majoras Mask on PJ64 1.5. The menu is screwy. I can't see the letters or anything. Can anyone help me?

I'm currently using:

Glide64 1.1.4 (or something like that)
Intel 82810E Graphics Controller
eVooDoo ( lastest one i think )

Holla back...

The cutscene problems probably have something to do with the unemulated motion blur.

Is it a good ROM (use GoodN64 to find out)?
Because it sound's to me like it's a hacked ROM (Note: there is a lot of ROM hacking tools for both Zelda: OoT and MM (I think they may also work on Zelda: MQ)), because if the keymap is f***ed up, it wont display any text correctly (not including the action button and the navi text).

I can't see that arrows on the C buttons display and the A & B buttons are too black and so are the health display and the magic bar. I can see 90% of the menu that comes up when you press start.

I am also using a windows me not a windows xp.
