The difference between downloading copyrighted songs, and downloading copyrighted roms is what?

most of my mp3's are ripped from cd's i bought, its pointless to have to put cd's i want to listen to in my cd drive everytime, so i just rip 'em to my hd, yes of course pleanty of those i downloaded off the internet, o yea, isn't there still an: www.mp3.com ?? keyword, mp3?

sharing mp3's has not yet been classified as illegal, despite the RIAA's efforts, and lets face it, its probably saved the music industry... in 2001 offsprings conspiracy of one album was the most downloaded on file sharing apps... and one of the best selling albums of the year (it was predicted to tank)... ask the offspring what they think about mp3s... or radiohead, or anyone who actually cares about music for that matter!

well the offspring didnt really mind when sharing their mp3s, remember, they supported napster. Anyways i'm a student if i got more than £10 a week i might actually buy the tracks i like, and most dont even reach the UK anyways

oh grow up... i download music to sample artists... its a fact people who download the most mp3s buy the most cd's... if theres only one or two good songs by an artisit then i haven't wasted my money, i've let someone share some binary with me

I never said I haven't downloaded music, I just said that It probably wasn't such a good Idea to post about it.

theres still nothing illegal about it, so why not?, im one of about 10 million people in the world who has an mp3 sat on their computer... whooptedoooo! if its meant i buy more music whats the problem?

actually yeah i have a huge collection of downloaded mp3's. so what. i also have... uhh.. lets say i have more cd's that i can count, it's in the hundreds and i'd buy more if i had the money. i have them stacked all over. downloading songs has opened me up to more music and artists than any (insert whatever dumbass picks the songs that play on mtv here) has ever done. the ONLY good place on tv to find good artists is mtv2. and i really hope that never changes. if not for kazaa i wouldn't have known/bought any cd's from The Kottonmouth kings, shootyz groove, the bucketheads, the mad caddies, voodoo glow skulls, and sooooo many other bands that mtv never would play. filesharing is great for music and great for bands that will never get air time on mtv. mtv plays what they want you to hear and so do most radio stations. why else would you buy any other cd's if you only hear of a select few? i bet i have bought more cd's and given back to the bands that deserve it more than most others. especially ones who only buy only mainstream.

/me hears mtv, falls asleep

i never watch anything to do with mtv, what? i freak'n hate mtv and ALMOST everything to do with it, they tell you whats "in" and whats "out" when thats a freedom for anyone to take and make their own, not some top 40 songs or top 40 shows....err Don't have enough time to even get started on that;)

oh they got a top 40 now? last i saw they only pushed 10 videos on you 24 hours a day.

**cowers in fear from the music giants because he mentioned he downloads music** :sleepy:

the funny thing is, songs are actually exposed MORE on the radio than they are by mp3s (i mean how many times will the same station play a song over and over)... so if youre worried about people hearing copywrited material for free... radio is your real enemy! (unless of course you own the radio stations and get the advertising funds all for yourself, in which case deciding what gets played)

yea styalor your totally right, how can they try to get rid of mp3s when theres radio u can get instantly and listen to songs u dont even own

i think radio is a way of advertisment for songs, well so is mp3s i guess. Recording songs off the radio is just as bad as downloading mp3s, and noboby does a thing about it.

Its the same kinda thing with movies, some1 could record them off the TV and own them without getting into trouble, but if its a DivX on cd u could be arrested

and now with digital radio you can listen to all those songs in perfect digital clarity. and you can record those and have cd quality songs. same for satallite dishes. you can record any movie you want off of it assuming you have HBO or showtime or even order a movie for 4$ on payperview and record it. and it's all digital, with a supervhs (which are very cheap nowadays) recorder the quality even on tape is good. now add a dvd burner and even filesharing to the setup and... well you get the picture. and this is just with existing power behind the machines. think about 5 years in the future when dvd burners are cheaper (remember when cd burners were over 600$? now you can get a 40x burner for 50$) and broadband is more commonplace. then add computer like tivo machines (which you can just use your computer for anyways) and watch commercial free digital programming, and even record them. then you start to see why all the big bosses are worried. but it's all the same as way back when everyone thought the same for tapes and cassettes. just now it's digital quality.

**wonders why he ends up saying so much**

anyways, in short for those of you who didn't bother reading. i'll continue downloading mp3's cause i'll still buy more cd's than if i didn't download any.
