I use this guide myself for the services:

Those are pretty much all you need to fine tune XP or 2000 to your specific system, forget those stupid bloatware tweak utilities whose authors want your money, because these are the only important changes they make. Everything else is just BS to make you want to buy their software, which will make little improvement (if not harm) your system performance.

There are more tweaks to speed IE up that I know of, but mozilla comes optimized when you install it (IE even optimized still doesn't come near), so I haven't played with those in a long ass time and don't remember where to find them.
