What's new

will 1964 be better than p64?

hey, I don't know if you all have been reading about the next version of 1964, but it's looking like it might just be the next evolution in n64 emus. I love p64, but since nothing's happened in over a year, I'd love to see a new winner. An open-source one, perhaps?

As far as I see it, PJ64 plays some roms better than 1964 and vice versa

That´s true, but 1964 is comming to a final version (1.0) and the last version of 1964 will be much better than PJ64 1.5.Yes, i´am fan of PJ64,troght the years,PJ64 is the best emulator!

Sorry of my english

I think that PJ64 has been better in stability, well i will see if I will be deleting PJ64 if 1964 turns out to be the way I think it is going to be.

What a stupid thing to ask. Of course 1964 will be better than the non-existent "p64".

Seriously though, it is a stupid question.

But don't you agree that it spraks *discussion*, which this and many other boards severely lack? This is the first good question that i've seen in a while.

I've never had exp. with 1964, b/c pj64 was always the best, or so i was told, when i got into emu. I have heard that it will rock it out on netplay, just because of the fact that it is the best version of it with netplay. pj64 fails in that area (1.4 w/NP VS. 1.5 w/o)

stupid duplicate threads! read around before you post questions!

and obviously, corn is the best emulator.....

.....on a pentium 2.

No. That would, clearly, be UltraHLE 1.0.0, provided that you have the required Voodoo graphics card. The Pentium II was what UHLE was created for, and it plays extremely well on any system with the said processor/graphics card combination.

i dunno, man. pj64 runs full speed on nearly every game for me. Maybe that's 'cause I'm running an XP2600, but everything was pretty smooth with even my athlon1.4.

Too bad pj64 got cancelled, 'cause a year's worth of developement could've made it practically perfect.

Well, we're talking mostly about netplay, right? Then its a whole different ballgame(which im watching now, sox just got a lucky break in the 8th to make it 5-4, great stuff) pj64 doesn't run some games well on 1.4, but 1964 is going to run them great. If this all turns out good, 1964 could replace pj6 as the best emu out there.

And Xade, i do want your machine (sweet stuff)

It treats emulation like a competition, which was never the purpose. The PJ64 authors had their goals, and the authors of 1964 have theirs. No one is trying to be the best. What the hell does "better" or "best" mean anyway? What serves the purpose for one may not for another.

*sigh* Maybe I've just grown bitter because questions like that of this thread appear ad nauseam on the boards. People seem to care less about the journey and more about the end result.

Very true Allnatural, it's not a competition. Both emus have their upps and downs but the upps outnumber the downs very easily.

Anyways, if it was a competition. What would they compete in? I can think of soo many different categories... ;)

That's true, and you're right. But whether or not they were meant to be competed, people will compare, because most people, you're right, just care about the end. Which sucks, but eh, whatcha gonna do?

the journey is fun, but MY goal is to put my n64 in storage while I play n64 games on my computer. Yes, I do care more about theend result than the journey. It's fun to be involved in the evolution of these emulators, just as I was with the NES and SNES emus. However, currently NES and SNES emus are virtually perfect, and I can't be happier about that. 'Cause that means that my NES and SNES can stay in a box in the attic.

That's the point I'm trying to make. NES and SNES emulation may serve the purpose for you, but they are far from "virtually perfect," particularly where the SNES is concerned. S-DD1 decompression was just recently figured out for instance, and many custom chips remain unemulated.

The question of which is better or best is moot. Use the one that works for you and leave it at that.

hmm... I'm not saying you're wrong... however I havn't found any snes roms that don't run great on even my old version of zsnes.

ZSNES (windows) corrupts my computer whenever i try to run it, so i stick with Snes9x, but I actually use the SNES emulators more than the N64 ones (no offense).

Many custom chips were used in one or two games only. Like the C4 chip. I only know that two games use it: megaman x2 and 3.
