What is the worst virus you ever had on your pc

RJARRRPCGP

The Rocking PC Wiz
Back in early 2003, probably February, 2003 I ended up getting the W32.Pinfi virus
and the virus spreaded to over 100 program files and the virus corrupted some program files on my secondary HDD!!! The virus caused me to get an error when launching setup archive files and thus some programs terminated, because the virus appends junk data to the end of Windows program files and I was required to redownload some software, again, because even when the anti-virus software removed the virus from the program files, because the CRC was changed, some programs would still give me an error message and terminate anyways, because they detected the file change. The W32.Pinfi virus is dangerous, because the virus can spread to over 200 files within a short time. The virus also created a temporary file that Windows won't let me delete.

The decent one
The worst one I ever had should be new.napster (and I wasn't even using Napster :p). Had to change the harddisk because of unfixable damage, but that was years ago. I also have a friend who had the win32.pinfi (the virus RJARRRPCGP stated above) spread over a network. That's terrible bad!

Wayhey, big bump there.
What's that?
Me not making sense up there?
How unusual...
Yeah, it's unusual, but it's Waaay Off-Topic so...whatever. I'll let it slide.

Still, RJARRRPCGP = gravedigger

I prey, not pray.
I had one virus sometime around 1997 that would trash the MBR (master boot record) hence rendering all data on the hard disk useless. It would persist over reformats b/c it was resident in the MBR itself. I would keep antivirus software up to date, but they never were able to detect it. I got rid of it by doing a low level disk format (e.g. write zeros across the entire drive.) Haven't used any antivirus software since because it was so useless, haven't had a virus since either.

Virii seem to get less sophistocated overtime...old virii used to be written using assembly, now you see people distributing them in these cheap scripting languages that only an idiot would need antivirus software to be able to spot. (Some even distribute a copy of mirc.exe with them b/c they run in mIRCs scripting language.)

Only three ways I ever see people get virii on their systems: using internet explorer as their web browser, using outlook express as their email client, or downloading and running every damn thing with the word "free" written on it. Of course there are the remote exploits that windows is full of, but if you NAT yourself then you don't need any of those stupid memory hogging firewall programs that always give you warnings about casual internet traffic just to make you think that they are actually doing something useful.

Hmm, I never had a Virus. Got a few attached to mails, but never got infected. Maybe because I use Linux? :p

Have had lots of them and the same probaly goes for most of you, espcially in the old days, thinking ten years back before the cd era but nowdays the only one that bugs me is the one that went like a fire across the globe and shutdowns xp.. so annoying.. ;-)

The worst virus I have seen are the one i made myself :( . I have never seen in action those virus that mess up your screen or do some other weird things. The closest to one i have seen is msblast. It was funny considering how it worked.

I rarely get viruses, only those from Kazaa that got automaticly removed by norton, and those that I got some months ago, each days (up to 5 each day), an e-mail with a virus in it.. also, time ago, on my old 150MHz, I never installed a antivirus on it. but when I did! ALL the .exe/.com/.bat files had a virus in it!

now, I never had a BIG prob with one like formating or removing stuff. good thing :)

The worst virus I ever had was a lot of years ago... My PC (a 80286 one) got inffected with a virus called somehow like 1784... I remember that it was used to lock the PC in any moment (And I was running DOS by then) after that the only virus I got was the last year... (W32 blaster) This virus doesn't make thinks like erase the HD data... but it is one of the best... I still remember how I was surprised... the virus just get in my PC, I didn't open any e-mail, not download any file, I just get into Internet and here it was... all thanks to M$ !

I actually have tow virii here at home. I don't know what to exactly call them, cause they're not your normal type virus. The first one isn't that bad. It'll screw up settings and make stuff not work, and sometimes files disappear, but nothing too bad.

The second one is very bad. It deletes files, leaves huge security hole in a system, and basically makes the system it infects a piece of crap. The only way to fix it is to write zeros to the HD and start over.

What are these two virii? My mom and my sister. The road to hell is paved with good intentions :getlost:
