Check this out...

RUMOR: Game Labo reported that Sony is working on a successor of PSP, which will have touch screen capabilities.

I got it from "The Magic Box", i am stunned because PSP is what? 2 yo and they are planning to release a new one? By copying Nintendo?

Was the first one a good move after all?

well if Sony wants to stay in the handheld market, they need to start thinking of a successor. let's face it, the touchscreen is good idea for gaming, its a good move for Sony to use it seeing how nintendo is doing good with the NDS

PSP is already a good, powerful console, now add the fun gameplay you could with a touchscreen and youve got there a solid console

So far the PSP was kinda pitiful. Sure it is the most powerful handheld, but it lacks the games. I do like the idea of emulators on it, but thats about all its good for right now. I mean gta lsc isnt enough for it.

this is funny! I can officially say, that if Sony copies the idea, Nintendo's Idea might not have been so bad after all.

Sony needs to worry less with "power" and worry more with (dun dun dun!) gameplay. That's how Nintendo dominates the handheld market (that and the fact they produce lower price hardware that often times can withstand a serious beating)

Nintendo will always dominate the market with handhelds. They have been in it for over 15 years so they know what to do.

I am sorry for the owners of PSP1 though...
heh, I got a PSP1, and honestly, I never liked it. Luckly, I bought a full refund warranty, and I am going to use the refund and buy a 360, unless sony can prove to me that the PSP2 is good enough to actually buy.

DS will be still better, will outlive it and will be cheaper.

Ask GameGear, Lynx, N-Gage and many others about that. :)

I can't really say it was a bad move, since it has created competition.

I've tried to find some articles about sales figures for the PSP (and that of the Nintendo DS).

One article has said that half a million PSP Value Packs sold in the first two days alone. Regardless, that's no drop in the bucket for a $250-300 piece of hardware.

No, the PSP has not become the dominate handheld device some predicted it to be, nor will it. But I think it has shown everybody that Sony can and wants to compete with Nintendo over the long haul in the handheld market.

So, is a PSP2 on the way? It wouldn't surprise me if that's the case, but unlike with the PS3, the next PSP, if there is one, will need to come at a cheaper price I think.

I think the worst part of the PSP has to be the UMD format, because all those promises of UMD-compatible devices have fallen by the wayside.

Yet, any PSP2 will probably still be UMD based, and apparently UMD sales of movies are decent if not spectacular.

That is so true. I wasn't too impressed when I saw what the PSP had to offer in the gaming department (not to say I wasn't impressed, it just needs more games.) but I've been a nintendo player since I was 7, so I've always been satisfied with what it had to offer. I was going to buy a PSP, but I just thought it wasn't worth it.

At your service, dood!
The next big thing for the psp successor: The PSP2 features not one but two disc drives, dual-disc system for maximum power consumption - also I would not underestimate sony... Nintendo used to be number one in the console market until sony came along.

I got a DS, my nephew got a PSP.

Once Maverick Hunter X arrived, i got his PSP, rented the game in Rio and played it.

Every saturday he calls me to get my DS borrowed.

And it will shave your beard and make you breakfast.

That DS lite, that will help nintendo outsell the PSP. Im not going to get a DS Lite, I already have a DS. But I defintetly wont get another sony product for as long as I live. I can get an iPod video, longer battery, and it can play doom 2 :p

it´s smaller, lighter, with a brighter screen and a bigger stylus.
Dont forget about the 4 levels of screen brightness, and that the switch was moved so your less likely to turn it off during gameplay.
